According to the Genworth 2020 Cost of Care Survey, assisted living services in Manatee County are moderately priced compared to the state as a whole and affordable compared to the national average. The survey doesn’t include data for Manatee County, but assisted living fees for Bradenton, the county’s principal city, are included in the average for the North Port area. In this region, seniors pay $3,888 per month for assisted living. This is higher than the state median of $3,700, but it’s considerably lower than the national overall rate of $4,300. 

The Cost of Assisted Living in Manatee County, FL and Nearby Cities

Assisted living costs in Manatee County are toward the lower end of the price spectrum compared to other areas of Florida. The most expensive city in the state is the capital, Tallahassee, where fees average $5,506 per month. In The Villages, a planned 55+ community, care costs are relatively high at $4,950. In the Sebastian area, monthly rates are closer to the national average at $4,500, while in the Palm Bay area, assisted living facilities charge approximately $4,100 per month. In Punta Gorda, seniors pay approximately $3,938, and the Miami area, the average is $3,500. Sebring has the most affordable rates in the state at $2,895 per month.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Manatee County

In 2014, the state of Florida replaced all their HCBS waiver programs with the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care Program (SMMC-LTC), which helps eligible seniors pay for assisted living costs. Florida also has the Optional State Supplement (OSS), a non-Medicaid program available for qualified seniors.

Manatee County Senior Services(941) 749-3030Manatee County administers a broad range of programs for those aged 60 and over, enabling them to avoid institutional placement and enjoy optimal quality of life in an assisted living facility. It operates the countywide Elder Helpline, which is reached at (941) 742-5818. This informational line is staffed with live agents who provide information on local services available to seniors. The county also oversees programs such as case management and medical transportation and provides referrals to other area resources. 
Senior Connection Center, Inc.(800) 336-2226Senior Connections Center, Inc., is the county’s Aging and Disability Resource Center and the designated Area Agency on Aging in the region. This local nonprofit organization provides services and supports to those aged 60 and over, including free health and wellness courses, Medicare options counseling and elder abuse prevention services. The agency also operates an Elder Hotline that provides over-the-phone information and assistance accessing programs that meet seniors’ needs.
Manatee County Veterans Services Office(941) 745-3795The county’s VSO links qualifying veterans and their families to the state and federal benefits and services they’re entitled to. Through this office, eligible veterans can apply for disability and pension benefits and the Aid and Attendance benefit, which may help them cover the cost of assisted living services. The VSO can also help visitors determine whether they’re eligible for VA healthcare services or veterans’ home placement.
SHINE(800) 963-5337SHINE is a statewide program that provides free senior health insurance options counseling. It’s staffed by trained volunteers who answer questions about Medicare benefits, Medicare Advantage and prescription drug plan options and long-term care insurance in Manatee County. Residents can receive personalized services over the phone or in person, or they may attend community classes that cover topics such as long-term care and Medicare benefits.
Legal Aid of Manasota(941) 747-1628Legal Aid of Manasota provides free civil legal assistance to Manatee County residents aged 60 and over. Through this local nonprofit agency, seniors can obtain assistance with drafting simple wills and assigning powers of attorney. The agency can help qualifying seniors obtain federal benefits such as Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, Medicare and Medicaid. It also advocates on behalf of seniors in cases regarding illegal debt collection practices, elder abuse and health insurance fraud.
Manatee County Aging Network(941) 894-8686The Manatee County Aging Network is a nonprofit organization that connects older adults with programs and services that promote healthy aging. It maintains a member list of community organizations that provide financial services, legal assistance, options counseling, transportation and volunteer opportunities.
