My Mom is a 63 yr old dementia resident here with behavioral problems. Even though my first thoughts were OMG this place is so small and care givers are not giving enough attention to everyone, I found out that the fact that they sit AMONG theyr patients and intervene as a friend that it seems to be working. My Mom has been in 6 facilities and 3 hospitals and hospice care 2 times in 2 1/2 years. I was Financially drained and stressd to no end. This facility has taken my Mom in and set boundries that my pitiful Mother has to follow or she is not allowed to have her 4 cigarette breaks a day. You will not find fancy chandeliers here or alot of freedom but my Mother is clean and content and fed so I honestly cannot say enough good things about the place. I would put these care givers in the SAINT division, they deal with the hard to handle patients that are still together enough to socialize and hold conversations and believe that they are getting better and have a little independence left, I wish these Saints were paid better salaries since they all work so hard and care that the residents have feelings and families, happy memories ect Fondly Lacy Breeding

Placing your loved one at Maryland Gardens is a difficult decision. Often, it is the only choice for a person with behavior issues that are inappropriate for traditional assisted living homes. Given that this may be a 'placement of last resort' it could be hard to trust the community's promises of quality care and rehabilitation. They are working with residents who are unwelcome virtually anywhere else and are unsafe to live independently. Yet, Maryland Gardens consistently receives awards for excellence in care. Their staff doesn't just 'do what they can' the do what is best. On a recent visit I was able to observe the staff interaction, learn about the programming and therapy and was surprised to learn that not all residents are permanent. Once the behavior problem as been resolved, he or she can return to their previous living environment or one that is appropriate for their needs. Those who are apprehensive about having their loved one in a community such as this should feel at ease knowing they are receiving a tailor made program designed to improve the behavior or problem and their loved one will receive excellent care during their stay.
