I live in a villa in Somerby of Mobile. It's a very nice place, they have houses with the villas, and those are privately owned, then they have a big building, they have independent living and people who need a little bit extra, and they have a facility where they take care of people. They have great food, you pay for your meals when the meals are included in your rent. The staff is mostly very, very young, and they are quite capable, they do lots of different things. They provide housekeeping weekly, someone comes to your place, or your apartment, and they're there for an hour and a half and they clean, and they do beds which is very helpful. I have my sheets changed weekly and it's very nice. In the past, they've had a lot of trips and that's come to a halt during the COVID thing. I think they're going to cut back on elaborate trips. They'll still go around Mobile, they go to the symphony, they go to a lot of art things on Sundays when the galleries are open for show. They have a regular exercise program, they have art, painting, they have two different painting groups, and they do crafts. We have a bottle of wine on Mondays, we go and join in drinking some wine, and join the neighbors. It's an active kind of place.

Somerby of Mobile was wonderful. My mother made the decision to move in right there during the tour. Tara was very accommodating and absolutely wonderful -- from the tour, the information, and the time that she spent with us answering our questions, asking us questions of her needs, and all. I have nothing but good things to say about them. The apartments were very, very nice. They had models for us to look at, and it was just very warm and welcoming. It was clean and it just looked great. Tara gave me all her info -- even her cell number -- so I can get in touch with her and ask any questions at any time. She was very helpful. They have plenty of amenities too. From what they said, they'll have transportation for her to go to the store on different days or to her doctor's appointments. We also went through the food and their menu, and we even got introduced to the chef and their nurses. They had plenty of activities -- like they had people playing instruments, playing cards, and stuff like that. Since COVID restrictions have been lifted now, some of the residents are able to pursue their recreational activities.

Somerby of Mobile was wonderful, but they're out of our price range. They also showed us their memory care facilities. It's absolutely excellent, exceptional, from what I could tell, and very kind. We could be in the middle of a conversation and if one of their residents walked by, they were gonna speak to them. They really seemed to care about their residents. The place was beautiful, clean, and very well prepared. They're doing very well at abiding by their restrictions that caused so much trouble for everyone really. They offered a free 2-person Thanksgiving meal whether you were living there or not, so I was able to pick my parents up a meal from there and take it to them, and that was just for inquiring with the place. That really impressed me. They were a little more expensive, but everything that we experienced was wonderful. The sweet lady there was very helpful and just really seemed to want to help us and make sure that my parents got in the right place. The staff was amazing. I've not been able to walk and I was in a wheelchair because of stress affecting my legs and my husband was pushing me around in a wheelchair and we came across these two lady workers there and they were absolutely precious. I really wish we could put my mother there, but we can't afford it. All of them were kind, outspoken, and genuine. I was just very impressed. I didn't get to meet a whole lot of the staff. They had a lot of activities. They offer a wide variety of amenities as well. They keep their residents busy and active to the best of their ability. They had puzzles, games, and board games. We haven't been able to experience those things just yet, but they seemed to have a lot to offer. The Thanksgiving meal given was delicious. They seemed to have a very highly rated menu that they get to choose from every single day, probably like being on a cruise ship. I don't have any negative experiences.

Somerby of Mobile was top of the line, and it's been there for 25 years, but it is quite large and it's a disadvantage. I'm looking at something more in-between. I was able to visit, and the sales manager picked me up from my home. They had lots of activities. It's an older facility, and the staff members had been employed there for three to ten years. They're not coming and going, and that was one of my concerns.

If we plan on moving into a senior community, it will be Somerby of Mobile. The staff was excellent and the activities were all very nice. They have bingo, shuffleboard, a swimming pool, trips, and movies once a week. We saw a studio apartment, which was very nice. There was a small kitchenette and a large closet in the studio. We also visited a 1-bedroom, which was very nice as well.

Somerby of Mobile is top of the line, but it's $7,200 a month, and it's $5,000 to move in. They seem to have plenty of staff members to cover everyone. Everything is first class there. It's a beautiful place. It's all on one floor. If I could afford it, I would put anybody there.

You get the typical sales pitch like a used car sales person would give. Promises that don't come to fruition after the paper work is signed. Rooms are decent like a motel. Dining room repeats itself after a while loaded with cream sauces, lots of pasta and no protein to speak of, gets old on the buffet table. How many times can you order a burger before that gets old. The buffet looks like it has sat and the bacon at breakfast is burnt and greasy cold. Dinner is served at lunch time and dinner is a brunch. Maintenance is slow to respond, I mean like 3 weeks for the cable box, 30 days for Comcast to connect it. Asked 5 times for a washer dryer to be replaced, that was 6 weeks. Staff in lobby was friendly, activities director couldn't be bothered if you needed extra handling. You must like parlor games or alcohol and smoking for the gambling trips. Depressing even on the independent side with everyone crippled in someway. Housekeeping was skipping the cleaning when they think you don't pay attention. The pool is only for aerobics, you can't go alone and no one on staff has time for you. The pill nurse had an aid that didn't care when she got there or if you were having issues to notify staff, even after being told about it. One aid responsible for bathing and meals would get there 20 minutes before kitchen closed so no time to bath over a week. They breached the contract and took appliances out of apartment before lease was up. Some there that make comments about your clothes as if they were in grade school. Unless you like a boring regimented lifestyle with parlor games for entertainment, this would not be the place for an active person or at least have close relatives that can keep an eye on things and take you around, but then what is the point?

Somerby of Mobile was a very nice facility. The rooms were much smaller and it's much higher cost than the other place we visited, but they have a pool and exercise rooms. They have a physical therapist there full time. The food looked wonderful. They have to use elevators there.

Somerby of Mobile was a large community with lots of amenities. They had a nice library area, swimming pool, covered parking available, and so on. The club house was large, with room for lots of different activities. The person who gave me the tour was friendly, knowledgeable, and very clear in her explanations. She was very accommodating in showing us several living options. We also ate there, and the food was good.

Everything was great at Somerby of Mobile. We looked at their apartments and their villas; we were quite impressed with both of them. The staff and some of the residents that we met were great. They were very friendly and open. They answered all our questions. We looked at a 2-bedroom. It was much larger than the ones we looked at at other places. As for activities, they have just about everything you can name. They have more than I would be interested in. They have water aerobics, a full gym, and exercises for people of all ages. The food was great. I was afraid that it might be something special, but they were feeding everybody the same thing. Overall, it was a great experience.

I've already bought a property at Somerby of Mobile to build my own home. It's a gated community, and it is perfect for what I want. Everybody is very friendly. Everything that I've heard is fine, and they have everything that I need, but I'm not living there yet and I won't for another five months until they build the house. They have a swimming pool, exercise rooms, all sorts of activities, movies, trips, and transportation. They have everything that I want.

Somerby is amazing. The staff and residents are always friendly, happy and are smiling. When you ask for help they go out of their way to stop what they are doing and direct you. We have had meals there many times and it is like a fine restaurant. I love their grilled salmon and my daughter loves the hamburgers. I can't imagine a place that could be any better for my parents. They have really blossomed since they got there. They were getting isolated in their home and now I can hardly get them on the phone because they are always out doing something with their friends. I can't say enough nice things about this place!

Somerby of Mobile was very inviting. I like the rooms; they were very nice, roomy, and looked like a home. They were very good hosts and answered all my questions. I did see the different activities that they had. They had music therapy people that came in to play music. They had games and arts and crafts. The dining area looked like a very nice place to eat.

My mother and step father have had a home at Somerby for many years. Following my step father's death several years ago, my mother began having increasing difficulty living independently. She moved into Assisted Living where she received PT and OT as well as nursing care which enabled her to become more active. In a matter of 4 months, she was able to return to her own home where she has been now for appoximately 8 months. I give much of the credit to the staff for encouraging her to get out of her room and become more active and independent.

Somerby of Mobile is a very modern and clean place. I went there, and the place was great. They have independent living and assisted living. The marketing person was very informative. He called in a nurse, and we discussed the situation; that is how we came to the conclusion that they cannot help us because they don’t have a nursing home.

My mother was the resident and after 9 days had experienced many falls without a care plan implemented to help decrease the falls. Care givers never checked on my mother to see if she needed assistance.

Somerby of Mobile was awesome as well as their staff. What I liked most about the community was the fact that they took everybody out for a tour once a week. They took the residents to the places where they needed to go. They also had a swimming pool where everybody could get in and swim.

This is a great Senior Resident Facility! I love to go and visit with the residents and the staff. Everyone is very helpful and competent. My parents have had the very best of care. I am kept informed and the staff seems to never tire of my asking questions. Everything is always clean, neat and ready for visitors at any time. My family and I have compared it to a very, very nice cruise ship without the rocking motion. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a safe, care-free, restful and friendly environment.

Somerby of Mobile was almost like a hotel. The grounds were well taken care of. It's a gated community and it was almost like a resort. The dining room had linen and tablecloths and silverware. They had a leather-bound menu and you can order what you want. They had a swimming pool, an exercise room, a billiard room, and a small library. Their theater room had theater seating and a large-screen TV. They even had a popcorn machine. They had different activities for their residents. I went to a band concert that they had there. The staff at this community were very friendly. They were calling the residents by name. Overall, it was a really nice place.

I was a Resident in an Independent Living Facility for 7 months and thoroughly recommend it. There was plenty to do--planned activities plus others on-site, much going on most of time. If you wanted to participate you could; otherwise stay in your spacious apartment - excellent food choices, very special people who were friendly and enjoyable plus transportation to food stores and other facilities - doctors etc. One Suggestion: Have your present living conditions taken care of: If you own your home, get it situated as Sell or Give to children before you move! That is what I did not do and ended up with Home expenses and Facility Expenses which did not last too long and if you go back home it is hard to make the break again. I have gone down physically and a bit otherwise since I returned home but haven't given up hope. MOVE while you are able. One regret: Did not insist we move while my husband was living as he would have loved being around so many nice people-someone to talk to-but he insisted he wasn't "leaving his home" but I was the one eventually who hasn't left, here alone. Make the Break! Jean

Sommerby of Mobile, AL is beautiful. I make daily trips to its several acre campus and I am always in awe of how nice the scenery is. Upon entering the assisted living facility you notice the cleanliness of the building and the attention to detail that the staff has for their job. The dining room is nicely done, set up like a high quality restaurant, which serves high quality food. There is even private dining for those residents who wish to have guests accompany them. For excersise there is a small, but adequate pool for the residents to keep muscles from deteriorating. I only wish I could go there if I were to ever need help living.

Assisted living is one part of the total equation of Somerby- the campus in West Mobile has garden homes and patio homes and apartments too. When a resident needs to move to assisted living, they are already familiar with where they will be going, as assisted living shares many of the same facilities. I have visited friends of my family there often. It is a beautiful facility that continually brings in new ideas for keeping the residents as engaged as they want to be in the various activities available.
