I stayed in rehab for 3 weeks (March 2023) after ankle/foot surgery. That meant I was wheelchair bound the whole time as I did not have enough strength to use a walker with one foot & leg because my hands & wrists are weak with arthritis. I was treated so amazingly & kind. I was responded to quickly if I had a need. The food was very good & plentiful. In fact, I was afraid I would weigh more when I got home. My room was good size. The bathroom was okay but it would have been nice to have handicap accessible there. That was the only negative. I loved my view out the window because I was in an L shape area so got to see lovely landscaping & the grass. The PT & OT was very useful, the therapists were knowledgeable & taught me so much. I enjoyed the large therapy room because we had laughing & smiling going on with the staff & residents. I felt at home & never lonely. We had a Mardi Gras party which was so much fun with great snacks, music, & games. The activities room was decked out in colorful Mardi Gras decorations. Although it’s (hopefully) a long time until I might need to have further services where it would be permanent for me, my husband & I’ve talked about the independent apartments which are in a lovely wooded area. It’s so peaceful on the grounds. I could imagine being on the porch having morning coffee. I recommend this place 100%.

Oaks on Parkwood was nice, but it was too large for my mother. The grounds were nice, and the room was nice. The staff was very friendly and nice. The dining area was nice. When I visited, they weren't doing anything. The assisted living people were going out to the store. They had a library. They had outings for the assisted living, not memory care, but they had activities. I tried the food, and it was OK. It was what I would expect a senior person to get.

I liked Oaks on Parkwood because it would be close to my son. We looked at a studio apartment that had a bay window in it, which made the room seem so much bigger than just the actual size of it and I love bay windows. I loved that they had a bird feeder outside so I could see the birds and watch them. They have all the appliances in them. There's a stove, a refrigerator, a microwave, a washer-dryer, a water heater, and everything you need, but you have to pay for your own TV. The staff that took us around was caring, outgoing, and willing to work with you. Their kindness was just tremendous. People liked to decorate the outside of their rooms and pets were allowed. You could plant flowers in the flower beds by your apartment if you wanted to. They have a swimming pool that's not deep and they have a gym where you can sit in with an instructor or you can do your own thing.

My mother-in-law went to Oaks on Parkwood. She has been there for three weeks now. She's very happy there. She's been very welcomed and very happy. Her room is nice, and she's got enough room to be happy and be comfortable. It's in excellent shape. She has nothing but praise for all the staff. She's been very complimentary of all of them. She said the food was better than what she had previously in other facilities. It's a beautiful campus. They have a pool that she could use if she would, and they have lots of sidewalks and everything that she could get out and walk when the weather cools off. They have bingo and singing, and they have a movie room. She's an avid reader, and they have a nice library.

We went to the Oaks on Parkwood. The experience was excellent, the place was very clean and neat. What we liked about them is you have 12 apartments in a building, with six buildings in independent living. So you have your own apartment, it's got its own bedroom, living room, bathroom, and you have a half bath for guests who are visiting. In each of these buildings, there's a center area where the people in these apartments eat lunch every day. They have other activities and things to do there. In the main building on campus, on Wednesday morning they have breakfast where people from all six of those buildings plus all the garden homes come up there and eat breakfast together on Wednesday morning. They have a pool, they do water aerobics there, they have a workout center, they have a community activity, arts and crafts, music. My aunt only likes to eat organic food. This place has a full kitchen in the apartment, and she can cook her own breakfast and dinner. She liked that part of the independent side of it. She wouldn't have to change her eating habits. They also take them to doctor's appointments.

My wife is at The Oaks on Parkwood. She's been under quarantine and now COVID just got it locked down for a while. Their quarantine days are not up either. Because of COVID, I could only get as far as the door. I could not see the facility. She has a cell phone and I can go and see her through her window and talk with her on the cell phone. This past week the food service for two nights was terrible. She got supper at 7:15 and at 8:20, and by the time she got the food it wasn't warm. They said they are short staffed, but that's no excuse for the service there. I let them know yesterday about that and the food service especially. My wife had called me and complained about it, and I called some people to let them know that I was not pleased. The first four or five days they were fine, but the food service just last week was terrible. The staff is not very good. My wife has some special needs that haven't been attended to properly. She had chronic diarrhea and they had been treating her with some medication that made the diarrhea worse. Before we went in, I gave it high marks, but the food service needs to be better than it is.

This is the worst place to put your loved one. Food is horrible. The administrator is someone who looks the other way when there is a problem . Nurses station will not answer phones. They treat the residents horrible. Staff is very unfriendly.

I've visited The Oaks on Parkwood in Bessemer, Alabama. It seemed to be a really nice place. The staff was helpful and they answered all my questions. The room that I saw was very nice. It was a nice apartment, a 1-bedroom. I wasn't real pleased with the dining area. I didn't like the idea of putting the food out and everybody just serve themselves. The activities seemed to be good, there's lots of things to do. They have games and crafts. They have exercise and swimming area. The living atmosphere seemed good, and everybody seemed to be happy.

The Oaks on Parkwood is pretty expensive, but it is one of the best. They have activities. They even have a heated pool. Their heated pool is better. They have just about everything. You can have your own TV, but you cannot have an electric wheelchair. The food looked good.

My mom lived at The Oaks on Parkwood and it was below par. There were problems with housekeeping, mold on the carpet, the bathroom, her room was not being cleaned properly, and drinking glasses with mold on them were just left in the room and were not picked up by the staff. The room has been flooded a couple of times and they were slow to repair things. You had to jump on them to get them to do it. The residents don't like the food and complain about it, and rightfully so. They have Bingo and the activities are geared more toward children than adults with cognitive problems. They're very childish and not interesting. I really loved most of the staff and they were really nice. The staff that was not really effective was the activity director and the management was very poor. The nursing staff was good and the housekeeping staff was poor, but they were nice. The kitchen staff shouldn't be cooking, but they're nice. Dont be fooled by the outside because it's very pretty, but you don't want your loved one to live there. They're not attentive to the families and they do not inform family members what they're doing. They quarantined all of the residents because of the flu, but they didn't tell the families that. They also switched pharmacies and they didn't inform us.

I was very impressed with Oaks on Parkwood. They had six or seven buildings that housed so many apartments. They had little individual dining rooms for each building where they can do things that just involve their building, and then they had the big overall dining room. They had a special breakfast on Wednesdays for everybody in the complex and Bible study afterwards. They had an exercise room, an activity room, a fitness center, and an indoor swimming pool.

Our mother lived in the SCALF unit here for a couple of years. Also known as The Orchard. The staff turn over is horrendous. All was well for a time. The women who actually took care of Mother seemed to like her and were sympathetic to her plight. There was one "nurse" that mother felt like was out to get her. There was also a disagreement concerning Mother's behavior. She has dementia. Ultimately, we found another place for our mother. After we moved her , employees agreed (most of which no longer work there) there was one nurse who in their words, pursued a war of wills with our Mother and was sometimes unfair. I loved most of the people there...The new facility, is older and much smaller with a very home like feel to it. There is still a lot of turn over in staff but the administrator is awesome, kind and caring. The nurse Mother had the personality conflict with is no longer there. I can't help but compare this situation to children in school. Teachers and nurses should not be having personality conflict with their students/residents. This facility has a cold feel to it. Mother's new home feels like home.

My mom is in Oaks On Parkwood, and she's doing really well. She had been there 4 years ago for rehab, and she liked the facility, so she chose to go back there. She has dementia, so she has her own room there, and they help her with everything. They provide her meals and all the comforts of life for her.

Horrible experience. They just so not care. There were two nurses and two PEAs that were good but I would never recommend plaxong anyone you love here. My mom is still there for 2 more days and then she is coming home with hospice. She is in the rehab part. They only so 1 hour of rehab a day. She deteriorated within 10 days of being there. That is why she is coming home. Just getting eveeythi g set up from Hospice and she will be home. Horrible experience. These are too many incidents to name. Do NOT use them if you can possibly help it. I so not know about the assisted living part...it may be very different.

We had a good experience at the Oaks. They had a lot of staff turnover, but they were honest and apologetic about it. It wasn't quite well organized. The property was very spread out, and we didn't feel that would be best for my father-in law. The cleanliness was very good. My biggest concern was they didn't have any sort of security in the independent living and the assisted living. The had little dining areas where they bring the food in each of the individual homes in the independent living side.

My dad stayed at The Oaks for about a month altogether. It is very attractive, and they have several levels of care, so all that is very good. The only problem was there really was no communication between the doctors, the nurses, and the staff. My dad did occupational, physical, and speech therapies. They really did not communicate with each other. He ended up with an infection and was dismissed with an infection in his arm. He still is having off and on problems because of that. They had put him on a restricted thickened liquid and mechanical soft diet, so he lost weight and became dehydrated, and we finally convinced them to take it off of that. Once he got regular food, it was very good. As for the physical appearance and cleanliness, it didn’t smell like a nursing home, and the food has always been very good. It was just the lack of communication between the staff that was the problem.

Do not recommend facility. Management is very unprofessional. Doesn't provide proper care for residents. Double diaper, doesn't change residents properly, fail to assist and insure proper feeding, change medication without sponsor permission, move residents without proper notification and doesn't give true and accurate information about resident. Nice facility but doesn't provide safe secure and quality care.

I visited and liked The Oaks on Parkwood. It was very clean and updated. The staff was very helpful. I looked at both the independent and assisted living, and it is one of the better facilities I have seen. The dining area was very clean and very open.

I had previously stated i was not impressed with the cleaning department and want to apologize for that. My concerns were immediately recognized and through no fault of personal at the oaks were resolved. The staff at the oaks are not only kind and patient and engaging with their residents but also to the families of the residents. It is a beautiful and warm environment in which to live. 5 stars for sure.

My mother is in The Oaks on Parkwood. It is wonderful, and we're very pleased. There are lots of things available, but she isn't participating. They have exercise everyday, bingo, movie time, bands come in, different speakers, and services on Sunday, and they take them to different places in the area. They have an indoor pool, good sidewalks for walking, a beautician, a manicurist, a podiatrist, and a doctor that comes. They have a big living room and a library.

The Oaks on Parkwood is very nice and very clean. Everything is very convenient and accessible for mom. They check on her often and they provide a lot of things for her. She's not able to drive now, so they will pick her up and take her to church, to the doctor's office, or to Walmart. They're all planned outings.
