I have a daughter that is severally handicapped and my husband passed away at a very young age, so I was left to care for 3 children 1 which was totally dependent on full time care.... With the help of the ARC of Centre Co this organization was brought in to help me with the care of my daughter and was the biggest blessing I could ever have, I don't know what I would of ever done without them....I was blessed with the most incredible loving and wonderful women I have ever met in my life who was a GOD send. I would recommend them to anyone...
What you can do with Caring
About The Arc of Centre County in State College, Pennsylvania
The Arc of Centre County offers an array of dynamic service options to support persons with a disability living in the community. Since 1953 we have strived to provide opportunities for social/emotional growth and the actualization of independence and personal goals. Because the type of living arrangement varies in accordance with the unique needs of each individual and his family, services could be provided in any number of settings as follows:
Residential Services
- 24-Hour Supervision Group Homes - Ongoing support and supervision is provided in a home shared by several individuals receiving services, usually 2-4 persons. Licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, these locations offer instruction in activities of daily living such as cooking, cleaning, money management, hygiene, social skills, behavior management and community participation.
- Home-Based Program - Professional staff work directly in the private home of the individual and his/her family providing the support necessary for the living arrangement to be maintained. The hours of service vary depending on the needs of the individual. Instruction is provided in activities of daily living and other areas as determined by the team.
- Family Living Program - Similar to foster care, an unrelated person in the community may choose to have a person with a disability live with them. This type of program is licensed by the Department of Public Welfare and the host family provides the necessary supervision and supports.
The Arc accepts referrals for these services from the Centre County MH/MR Office.
