By having a nicer, more put together apartment and not doing everything on my own, I can physically do other things. It has helped me physically and mentally. I like the fact that I was able to pick who could take care of me.

The agency has had a positive impact because they follow instructions well. I do have reservations about managing the support that I am getting. I like to be the boss in my own home with how things work. It makes it a bit hard to have care free support. I would recommend this agency because they are thoughtful and thorough. The communication has always been on time and courteous.

The one thing that I do like is that you can talk to someone 24 hours a day. Every time someone calls off, they don't have anyone to cover. They are also not very dependable when it comes to caregivers. We have gone through about 15 girls in the past 2 months; however, we have 2 new girls that are doing well for the night time.

It was very helpful. She would do my laundry, keep the kitchen straight and occasionally make me dinner. They don't do what they say they'll do. I don't need anything bathing or anything like that. I need someone to clean. She would clean the bathroom and wash the floors. A few weeks ago I stopped getting care. I called them three or four times and no one called me back. I'm in a wheelchair and sometimes It's hard to get to that door. When someone has to come my husband has to be here. They just need to show up more frequently and make more of an effort to understand my mother, since she doesn't speak English. They have to be more careful in choosing their caregivers. There also tends to be drama with them. The only caregiver we had a long time was okay and the other changed companies to get a better job because she had problems with BrightStar Care. I do not think that they adequately train their staff in various areas. The staff that they hire tends to be very young, so around the ages of 18-19 and definitely under 30. I'm handicapped. The other lady named Diana was a very good cleaner, wasn't a thief and she did her work. That other girl Clarissa would throw a load of clothes in the washer and then the next day would throw the clothes in the washer again, and she brought her kid to work. The first girl that came stole $400 from me, two bags of brand new clothes, jewelry, and she was snooping through my house while I was in the kitchen drinking coffee. I turn my head and noticed the door was open and her car was gone. I just thought something had come up and the next day I realized the money was missing. Her name was Clarissa. There was no reprimand or anything and I don't know if she still works there.

Some of the caregivers don't have cars and I need rides to the doctor and to the dentist. I have decided to switch agencies. Some of the caregivers take the bus here and the last one runs at 7:15, so if they don't drive, they can't stay until the end of shift, which is 8pm. I have mobility issues and they help me with that. I don't like how BrightStar Care sets up their service by putting the client on the list so that the caregivers choose the hours they want to work. We don't have a consistent caregiver with them. As far as I know, they are the only agency that does this and they don't assign the caregiver a specific client. I have to go through with each new caregiver what needs to be done.

I had two caregivers that were excellent, and they were the only reason I stayed with BrightStar Care for as long as we did. There was a regular issue of caregivers calling off from work and not having a replacement available. There were other issues of the office telling me that a caregiver would be coming in an hour and they came three or four hours later. When we first started with BrightStar Care, things were good, but things immediately deteriorated. The reason why the last hospitalization occurred was because my aunt had formed bed sores, which were ulcerated. The caregiver did not apply the cream and medications to treat those and other issues. My aunt was not prompted to take her medications, which was reported to the office.

They're reliable, and they try to help when they can. They don't listen very well sometimes, though. My loved one went from a 75 year old to a two year old because the aides didn't listen and aren't doing enough to keep her active. They do everything for her even though she's capable enough to do it on her own.

I wouldn't recommend BrightStar Care because it seems that they're not on the right page with each other sometimes. For example, the aides will show up without calling. When I request an aide, I don't receive them. BrightStar Care needs better communication. If BrightStar Care is really and truly concerned, the caregivers would have better training. The caregivers are there just to make money, they don't ask any questions about my well-being.
