Grace Lodge Assisted Living was nice. They only had a two-bedroom available, so we couldn't look at a one-bedroom, but it was a nice apartment. The lady who toured us was very helpful in answering the questions we had. They serve three meals a day, they do your laundry if you want them to, and there is a room where you can go and just watch TV or do puzzles or read. They also have other activities going on, like when we were there yesterday morning, they were doing an exercise class.

Over eight years ago my parents moved into Grace. Up until this week, I would have given five stars. Management’s recent actions make one star too much. On Wednesday my sister received a call from nurse Katie saying that Dad needed more care than they could provide. Our family had been expecting this call, but Katie did not indicate any time frame for us to find another facility; we assumed we would have time to make arrangements. Early the next morning my sister received a call from Hospice informing her that Dad would be removed to the hospital that day. Around 10:00 the manager of Grace called to say that Dad would be picked up by ambulance and taken to the hospital as soon as he finished lunch. My sister had not had time to inform us siblings or talk with Dad. Our father is a 97 year old Marine who served in WWII. They tossed him out like trash. He was not given a chance to say goodbye to friends among residents and staff. When my sister was able to visit him in the hospital, he was confused, sad, and angry. There was NO medical emergency that had required him to be moved that day. Dad had always paid his rent on time and Hospice was providing care as well. Hospice asked if a health care nurse could come daily to stay with Dad until they could find a place for him to go. Grace management would not consider that! How Inhumane! I certainly hope that this never happens to anyone else. Their callous action might result in our father’s death, based on how he has reacted to this horrible decision.
