Brookdale Onalaska is excellent because it's very small, and they pay attention to what's going on with my mother, and they report to me everything that happens. She's been there at assisted living for a month and a half. The staff is excellent, and she has a 1-room apartment with a bathroom. They have activities every day, they have low-impact exercises, and they invited community in to participate with the residents quite often.

We visited Brookdale Onalaska and I wasn't as impressed by their facility as the other places we've been to. We were there for assisted living, and they felt that my father might need to be in their memory care facility but because of the availability of units, we decided not to pursue anything with it. We saw their menu but did not try their food. The menu seemed varied, but we did not eat there so we can't comment on the taste or the quality. The community area seemed nice and an advantage is that it was a smaller place so it's a little more community-oriented. Most of the people who were residents there seemed to have more mobility needs than the other places so if someone didn't need too much support, it probably would not be a first-choice place. But if it was somebody who needed more support, especially physical support or in a wheelchair then that type of client would probably fit in better.

Brookdale Onalaska assisted living is very nice. The lady that showed us around was very nice and she knew all sorts of things that I didn't know. She said they have exercise classes and trips to the park, every once in a while. The rooms I saw were very nice and small. The facility was very clean and neat. I thought it was nice.

We looked here, but that was more or a nursing home/assisted living, so that was beyond what my friend needed as this point. It wasn't actually what we were looking for, and they didn't have like a shower or anything like that in the rooms. However, it was more of a family. They had the center kitchen, very nice building, and nice accommodations, and it was furnished for you. You could bring your TV and things like that in, but there was the bed, the chest drawers, and the chair, and the rooms were ready for them. The staff was very friendly.

I was not impressed because it is smaller. The room seemed quite small to me. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was good. It seemed homey, but crowded, and that was the main thing I had against it. While I was there, the residents could help baking things; that was very good ad they keep the residents occupied. They did seem interested in trying to give their residents something to do. They have an activity chart, and that was pretty well filled.
Provider Response
Thank you for visiting and taking the time to share your thoughts about our community. We realize that our suites are smaller than many expect. Most of our residents are downsizing, which can be a difficult transition. They do not as many items in our setting, as we provide many items and activities!
