Aster Assisted Living was great. It has everything that we're looking for my mother. They have happy hours, my mother would have freedom to leave to go outside for a walk, and they engage in a lot of activities there. The staff members are very pleasant. I also know a lot of them personally. They're very friendly, very personable, and willing to help. The apartments are nice. They have rooms from studios to 2-bedrooms; some have kitchenettes and some have full kitchens. They're very neat and clean. Somebody would come in and clean the apartments. They would do the laundry there, too. It is a very neat and tidy place.

Angelus was too institutionalized. It was an old hospital converted into a facility and it smelled like an old hospital. The rooms weren’t nearly as big. They had no stove, but it had a little beverage refrigerator. The staff was very nice. I know that they take you places. My mother-in-law’s brother lives there, and he loves the food.

The building itself is very nice, it used to be the Clintonville Hospital. The community rooms are large and have large windows. One of the family areas has a fireplace. Angelus has a shuttle to bring residents to stores and pharmacy, as well as day trips. There is a beauty shop or barber shop inside, they have a hair stylist come in every week for the residents. The food is okay, a bit bland like most nursing home food. The staff are nice and welcoming. The facility is near a larger nursing home that isn't nearly as nice. It's about $3500 a month, after Medicare/Medicaid, so it's a bit pricey. My extended family has to split the remaining balance so that Grandpa can stay there. The facility nearby is much cheaper, but it has the typical "old people" smell, and Angelus doesn't. Every week a local cheese factory (it's real big in Wisconsin) called DuPont sells fresh-made cheese curds in the lobby. For many of the older residents, they've eaten that local cheese for all their lives. In the fall the host an old tractor show in the front yard. This is probably the best facility in Clintonville because it's on Main Street. The residents there can sit out and watch what little traffic town has. Additionally, all residents can watch every parade we have in town, if they live here. The other nursing homes can't offer that because of mobility issues. At Angelus, they can just look out the front windows. Clintonville is a small town, so even a few parades a year make a difference to people stuck in assisted living.
