I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

the nurses and staff try to do their best, but they need more staff. my complaint is with the doctors and head nurse they use. when my mom went in she could talk and eat and after 2 months she was a vegetable unable to even drink so she died of starvation and being over drugged. i begged them to get her pain meds right so she would be more balanced and they put her on too many drugs, and the psychiatrist could not do pain meds so he just loaded her up with other drugs. and then hospice came in and i thought they were going to help, but they did nothing to get her meds right either. they said methadone was good for old people rather than pain meds, but they never put her on it. so finally they put her on morphine and that was the end . it was so pathetic to see my intelligent mom turn into a vegetable unable to eat or talk. no matter how much i tried to get them to get the meds right. and the dr kept signing off on the meds but never actually even went into her room til i called him out on it and even then he never changed her meds even though she was grabbing at his tie in a drug induced state. food was fine and activities were fine and rehab tried but i wish i had never put her in there. they also put my dad on morphine instead of sending him to the hospital for his copd so ten days later he died and the same dr said "oh i did not know his heart was that strong" when the va dr had said my dad had a strong heart.

I visited this facility

My sister and I like Willow Tree Manor. It's closer than driving to Annandale or Alexandria. I moved her to be closer and everything seems to be going fine. The place is OK. It's not home, but the staff is very friendly. I like it a lot. They have regular activities for all sorts of things. Sometimes I take my sister out to lunch or we just play cards or watch TV, but I think she's happy. She has a bed by her window, and we dressed it up a little with curtains. They're flexible in how you fix up your room or which way to turn your bed. The food is not bad; better than what we had. They aim to please because my sister had all sorts of options as a vegetarian. They spoke with her, and she gets what she wants to eat. I'd say this place made me comfortable, free of concern, and happy for my sister. They had activities like an Easter egg hunt, cooking, games, and exercises. They keep people busy. The managers and all of the staff have been very helpful, friendly, and down-to-earth. It is a lovely place for people to be in

nurses and cna aides are wonderful except there are not enough aides. sometimes have to wait half hour to hour to get help getting onto pot or into bed. plus have to wait many days to actually see a doctor 11-14 days sometimes. food is great. they need more help. poor cna's are run ragged.
