We chose Queen Anne Manor Senior Living for our mother because it was welcoming and perfect in every way. It's in a 1902 building up on the top of Capitol Hill. So, it isn't one of those brand new buildings that's all sheet rock and every room is identical. It's beautiful. It's like the neighborhood where my mother grew up. Every room is different and has great big windows. The people there, from the director and so on, are so gentle and so welcoming. They could meet our rates for a single room and they have the right philosophy. I wanted someplace where I wouldn't have to worry about my mother as her ability to take care of herself declines and their philosophy is that they want to be a soft landing spot for their residents and their families. We don't want anybody to think about having to move again and that's everything that my sisters and I wanted to hear. We were moving her up here from a memory care facility in Berkeley, California. It was a difficult one to make logistically, and we made it, because we had to, and to find someplace that we love is a dream. I was not crazy about any place else I saw. They all seemed brand new, sterile, and way too expensive. They have a whole range of activities. The same sorts of programs that most memory care places have. They have things like a gardening program and they have places that they take their residents to. Mother is perfectly happy coloring with my granddaughter who comes to visit her once a week, and that is not something that we could do when she was in California. There are a lot of enriching things that are available to the residents there. The food is some of the best I have ever had anywhere in an institution of any sort. I don't know how their chef does it, but it's good. Queen Anne Manor Senior Living takes care of all decisions for us. Every time I go up and see her, she looks great, she looks healthy, she looks rested, and settled. I think that was the biggest worry that my sisters and I had as she's got a pretty hefty case of Sundowners. I think all three of us were afraid that the first weeks or so would be pretty awful, especially because Queen Anne Manor Senior Living is so much smaller, but she just settled right in a day and I think it was because it felt familiar and felt comfortable. I just can't speak highly enough of it. It's the best value for money that I have seen anywhere in the region.

We were at Queen Anne Manor Senior Living for our tour. We were there for an hour because they have respite care, which was what we were looking for. They have short term respite care. They have a memory floor that they work with people that have dementia and Alzheimer's. If my mom stays there for a short time, she would stay on the second floor. They have a lot of activities going on. We saw the activity director, so that was encouraging because they do a lot with the people, if they want. They take them on bus rides to different events and different things, so we were pretty impressed with the community. The staff was very well-informed and very friendly, so that was good. We enjoyed the visit. It was definitely a place where we would have my mom go, if need be. They have an activity room. If anybody wants to exercise, they have a little exercise room. People are monitored very closely. On the memory care, it is 24/7, so they have somebody at all times. We got to see the room that my mom would stay in, if she was there. It was very clean. It was small, but we understand. With Alzheimer's or dementia patients, they need that constructive kind of smaller area, so that was nice.

The tour I had with Queen Anne Manor Senior Living was average. The facility seemed very old and not very intriguing to be part of. Rooms were dated. The dining facility seemed very sterile. The amenities were lacking. The staff was fine though and they had a rooftop garden that seemed nice.

I certainly highly regard Queen Anne Manor. It’s very pleasant and has an excellent staff. I’m very fond of them. They're very sensitive. The attendants are extremely good and wonderful people. I would recommend them without any reservation. I just think that they've certainly done a great job. I’m really kind of sad that my wife couldn’t go back there, but she really had a couple of complications that have nothing to do with Queen Anne Manor. She was hospitalized for a while, and so we just elected to bring her home and help her recuperate at home. I would say that the community has very high-end service. They’re situated in a nice local community in Seattle, which is Queen Anne Hill. There is the opportunity for family to take their loved ones and actually go out on walks and things such as that. It’s in a community in a home center, and it was very lovely. The facility is just first class and so are the people. If I needed care, that’s the place I'd go.
