I like the fact that once you get into Westminster-Canterbury, Shenandoah Valley, you can move to whatever level of care you need. If five years from now, I'm not able to get around, I can move to assisted living. It's a very nice facility. It's a good, solid place. There's enough room for everybody. Even if you are in the independent living, they do your laundry and clean your apartment once a week. The building is made of high quality materials. It's well-built. They have gardens around where residents are welcomed to work. The staff was very positive. They answered all of my questions.

Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury is a very nice community. The presentations when we visited were well prepared and informative. We had a nice luncheon, and they took us on a bus tour inside the community. Then they took us to look at a two-bedroom apartment which was beautiful but very expensive. I wish they adjusted the price for people since it seems to be more for the upper-class. They serve three meals a day and also have lots of activities. They have a beautiful pool, fitness center, walking trail, a library, and speakers once a month. We saw three dining area choices, so you can choose between a more formal setting, a cafeteria, or the pub. They can also deliver the meals to your door if there's bad weather or if you're sick. The people who gave us the tour were excellent, friendly, welcoming, and had a lot of good information.

The latest place I went to see was Westminster Canterbury. It was beautiful, nice, and expensive. The rooms were very nice. They had an activity director. For activities, they had a race, a walk, and art shows. The staff was very young. It was located in a quiet end of town and about five miles to hospital. It was elegant. It wasn't sterile. People were dressed, and they don't walk around in their pajamas. You wouldn't hear screaming in the hall.

Shenandoah Valley was excellent. The cottages and apartments were very nice. The apartment could be a little larger. I've driven by the cottages, and the cottages on the outside appear to be very nice, kind of a typical nice community. It has a nice wellness center that they're expanding. The library is in a very nice area, they have bistros, and the dining room areas are wonderful. The common areas are done exceptionally well. It's very comfortable and very homey. They have activities like arts, crafts, and different clubs. They seem to be doing things right. They're not large, but I don't know anything that they could do any better than they're doing now.

Of all the places that I have seen so far, Westminster Canterbury was the most beautiful place. It was like a country club. It had a swimming pool, cottages, and everything. The rooms were very luxurious. The dining area was very nice and very well appointed. Their activities struck me as triple A. It was an independent facility, but they had facilities to move you to as you progress or regress. However, it was very expensive. If you come in, you would have to make a deposit of $200,000 to $300,000, plus a monthly.

I have visited the Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury frequently. That is a nice and classy place. It's clean and spacious; it's A-plus all the way. It is the best place I've visited but I can't afford it. If I could, I would be there. The food is superb, the staff is professional, and the accommodations are excellent. They offer as much as any retirement facility I've ever been to. They've got a swimming pool that's to die for and I would want to spend the night in there. Everything about this place is extraordinary. But they wanted half a million dollars for you to get in and I don't have that much money. That's too expensive for my blood.

We put in a deposit to get in Westminster-Canterbury. But then we decided that it was too far and too cold up there. The facility was beautiful, the grounds were beautiful, and the staff was so nice. They even invited us to come up for a weekend and put us up in one of their apartments. A couple took us to dinner in the dining room, and we were accommodated in a lovely apartment that they have.

My experience with this facility was good overall. There is an older gentleman that I visit once a month, whom is an old friend of my family. He has been there for about two years now, so I have visited this place frequently. It is a somewhat upscale facility. They have two different, very large kitchens to accomadate the residents. They also have a cafateria which serves guests and visitors. Each orderly I have met have been polite and knowledgable of any question I ask of them. The grounds at the facility are immaculate. They have several gardens and walking paths. The gardens are watched over by some of the residents. The walking paths are set out through the surrounding woods and fields. They have very good sceneary. Overall, everyone was very nice and the residents seem to agree. I beleive that this is a fine facility.
