My sister-in-law is now at Sunnyside Retirement Community. Primarily, it has just been a wonderful experience. All the levels of staff (the doctors, the nurses, the health aides, and the physical therapists) are very caring, very professional, and always very kind. My sister-in-law is in a single room with her own bathroom in there. She has a lovely window where she can look out and see trees, shrubs, and things like that. She has a nice bed, a reclining chair, and straight-back chairs, so there's room for people to come in and sit down and visit with her. There's plenty of room for her to move around in. It's very comfortable. They have a dining room area. If patients aren't feeling up to it, they bring it to the room. The dining room area is very friendly. She thinks the food is very good. They have a wonderful team and nutritionists on board. They have a wide variety of food. It's very tasty for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She is overall very pleased with the food. I'm very pleased with them. Every staff person that we either talk to or interact with has been very caring, very professional, and has reached out regularly. They have taken care of any needs that my sister-in-law certainly needs and are trying to be on top of everything for her best care. It's extremely clean and well-maintained. I find it comparable to any other place that I've been to, and it's expensive, but you get quality care, quality facilities, and quality medical care.

The tour at Sunnyside Retirement Community was very good and very pleasant. We met some of the people. They invited us into their cottages to see what they looked like. We went to all the different facilities they offered there. They offered us to stay overnight, which we did, and it was very nice. The staff was wonderful. They have a beautiful swimming pool, a fitness center, and a lot of different classes. The food was good.

I was very impressed with Sunnyside's activities. They have a lot of things that you can get involved in. I was impressed by the amount of things that they have. They have a wide selection. The staff is very nice also. I have several calls after I came home. There were a number of follow up calls asking if I was interested and if there was anything that they could do to make it more interesting than it was. The grounds are gorgeous. Everything inside is very nice, clean, and organized. Their accommodation for one is a large living room. The one that they showed me has a patio where you can go outside to sit right in front of your apartment. It also has a nice bedroom and a kitchenette. The food is very good.

The Presbyterian was too big. Everything was so nice. I would be happy to move there myself, but she thought it was too big. The apartments were very nice. The security was wonderful. I thought that was great.

The staff, residents and care providers and ministers were all friendly, caring, and helpful in general. My grandparents lived in a house in the Retirement Village for many years and were happy and well-attended. When they went to "The Terrace" for closer supervision after coming down with dementia, they were also well-cared for, kindly treated and pretty happy, considering. I only have 2 issues that I was dissatisfied with. In the time between- when they moved from their house in the Village to the Main Building, but before the Terrace, they lost contact with their neighbors in the village and were allowed to withdraw from the community, and not participate in many activities; rarely leaving their suite or having any meaningful contact with peers. I really feel like this hastened the dementia, as there was no meaningful contact with anyone, and often when I called I had to say what day it was or even what time of day it was. The 2nd was that everyone in the family believed that since my grandparents had paid to have their house in the village built, and then turned it over to Sunnyside without compensation; they would be cared for on that basis, rather than charged $50k per year when they needed help.
