My friend lives in English Meadows Abingdon Campus. It's very nice and clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It's very well-kept. They have people from the library come in, they play music for them, and they have art time. That's for memory care. They have a courtyard outside and dining facilities for them. I've never had a problem with them.

My uncle is in English Meadows Abingdon Campus. It's been fair. It is not as good now as it was when he first went there. It's not the same level of service. The public areas are very nice. The rooms are well laid out and they have plenty of space, but it's not kept very clean, especially since they have carpet. He's been there for three years and they've never cleaned the carpet, even with multiple requests. He has a lifeline kind of bell, but it does no good for him to turn it on because they don't answer it. They have let him at times become quite ill without notifying any of the family when he should have been cared for several days before we ever knew that he was having a problem. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. I don't know how hard it is to find people now to work in those kinds of places, but I have other friends with family in other facilities recently whose experience is better than this one. Their prices have not gone up since he's been there though. If they had the same level of service they had three years ago, I would rank them very high, but they just don't.

When the time came to find a facility to place my mother for hospice care, I was thankful English Meadows would take our placement. However, this facility is not set up to handle the level of care needed for these patients. There isn't adequate staff to care for the needs of those needing additional care. While the staff tried and had the best intentions, they could not cover all who needed services. Be sure to check staff/patient ratio when looking for a facility. This is a great facility for residents who need minimal care, three meals a day, help with taking medications and interaction with others.

We have decided on the English Meadows Abingdon Campus for my mom. Closeness to home is one of the big factors. Several places seemed like good places but this one's not very hospital-like and it's very homey. I looked at their memory care during my visit. I haven't experienced much of the place because she hasn't checked in yet, but just right off the bat, they seem to treat their people well. The staff seemed very good and very conscientious and it's a fairly well-put-together team. It's a nice and attractively laid-out place. They seemed fully equipped too. They had a little workout area and had a courtyard, and of course, a dining room and a little library too. I don't know how much of that my mother will be interested in but they still have a well-put-together set of facilities.

My mom is in English Meadows Abingdon Campus. It has more of a homey atmosphere rather than a hospital atmosphere, which we preferred for my mom. They have a common room for all the patients can go and visit. They have nice large rooms with large closets. They do activities every day, like bingo, arts and crafts. The other day, they were coloring. They have a lot of community involvement. They have choirs that come in, children sending them gifts from the school. The staff members were very, very nice and very good. We had a little miscommunication between the administration regarding her health and care, but that has been corrected. I've never tasted the food, but they have a good menu. I think the food is really good there. They are very expensive.

English Meadows Abingdon Campus was clean and well maintained. The staff and the people that lived there were friendly. I was there at the tail end of breakfast, and the lady apologized for the dishes being left on the table, but I said that it's a good thing because I can see if they ate their food or not. There was no food left on the plate. So, that means it's good. If I didn't have to wait on the VA funding, I bet my parents are there right now.

One year ago next month, my Mother fell in her home and broke her arm. After being taken to the hospital, she was given the diagnosis of Dementia along with her broken bone. I then knew that the time had come that she could no longer be left to live on her own. I live in an adjacent State, with a full time job and taking her out of her environment would not be an option that would lead to her well being. Fortunately, a few months prior to her fall, I had taken time off from work and traveled to Abingdon, which is close to her home town that she knows well, to start the search for a quality Assisted Living Facility. When I first arrived, at dinner time, I was met by friendly staff and noticed how content all the residents seemed. They were all laughing and talking with each other and a true sense of "Home" was felt. The Administrator approached me and was so gracious, helpful and informative. She took her time in telling me all about the facility and made me feel so welcomed. She stayed with me long after 5:00 which I so appreciated. Just a few months later, I found myself in desperate need to find a special place for my Mother to make a transition from her home t a "around the clock" assisted living quickly! The first phone call I made was to English Meadows! I am not sure that the same Administrator remembered me, but she made me feel like she did. She was so reassuring and calming. and said that she did have availability for my Mother. I was so relieved! That was 11 months ago and I am still just as impressed with English Meadows, the Administrator, her Director of Nurses, the Nursing Staff, the Dietician, the Activity Director, every aspect of the facility I give the highest of marks! I feel so content, knowing that Mother is happy, safe, well nourished and content as well. Thank you English Meadows! You have my heart! Jonna Davis Charlotte, NC

English Meadows Abingdon was fairly comparable to the senior living place with the exception that it has an all-inclusive price. The all-inclusive price is a big draw, and it is in line with the state average cost for assisted living. It is a fairly new facility and similar in what it offers. The main difference is that it is an all-inclusive price. It is on par with the other one.

English Meadows Abingdon Campus is a very good and new facility. Mom has not complained about the food. The staff has been very good, very helpful, and will do as much as you want them to. They have been very gracious about anything I've asked them to do for Mom. I know they have some activities like bingo and other games. Mom likes to do puzzles. I was there yesterday and there were four ladies doing three puzzles at the same time.

The people at English Meadows were very friendly. It was very clean, and all of the staff was pleasant. There was good selection of activities, and the food was very good. They have singing, bingo, cards, community activities, needlework, puzzles, gardening, and option for exercise. The rooms were very nice and spacious. The bathrooms were all accessible and very easy to navigate, and there were nice views from the rooms. They had a lovely patio, and the dining area was very nice and attractive.
