My mother was a resident in the Secure Unit. We never had a single complaint about the care she received from the staff. Everyone always seemed to have the resident’s best interest in mind. They constantly worked to add value to the lives of those in their care. The facility was always clean and fresh. The social worker was kind and helpful, the receptionist was sweet, and the unit nurses and assistants were loving, hard working, and wonderful!

My mom was at Lakeshore Village Nursing and Rehab, and it was horrible. They're incompetent, and they don't take care of their patients. I would never send anybody there ever. They left their patients sitting in dirty diapers and in wet beds for hours and hours. They don't even answer the call button. They put two people in a tiny little room and the only thing separating them was a curtain. The room was barely big enough for one person. The food was nasty and disgusting. She wouldn't even eat it while she was there. We had to bring her food to eat.

My friend stayed at Lake Shore Village Healthcare Center. I would not give them a very good review. They led us to believe that they had the approval from UnitedHealthcare, and so they immediately went down, got my friend, and put her in the nursing home. And then two days later, they came back and told us that UnitedHealthcare would not pay for the deal. I tried to get them to go through her doctor, for which I had a reference number and all for care in the nursing home, but they totally would not do that. They caused her to be turned down by UnitedHealthcare, so they got a bad ranking on that. My friend's care was not good. She was penalized because she couldn't go to the lunchroom. The lunch room is way across an open court, so you have to go outside to get to the lunch area where they eat, but she had to eat in her room. So with that, they wouldn't bring her any coffee because she couldn't get across to the courtyard to get to the lunch area. They also put her in the room with another lady. It was a very small area, and the other lady dominated the room. Their activities were not good, too. I don't think my friend got to participate in any of their activities while she was there. They continued to harass us about the bill. We've been trying to pay it off. They continue to harass, not only her, but also harass me. That was not my responsibility, but they harassed me about it. The staff was not good. They didn't want to help my friend; they didn't want to work with us on anything. They were higher priced than the other place, and the room was not that good. One thing they could improve, they can be more people-friendly in taking care of their patients and not intimidating the family and their patients. I think they can improve by not having their area for the lunch room where you have to go through an open area to get there to eat and be penalized in your room by not giving you coffee and stuff like that. I can't say a lot of good things about them. We brought my friend's medicines to the facility. However, they destroyed her medicines and on her prescription drug plan, they charged her for medicines that they shouldn't charge her for. I think in a lot of ways that they could improve is doing better service to their people.

Lake Shore Village was nice and set up really well. It had the amenities we were looking for, but it was too expensive. Their dining room is also their main facility or meeting area. They do bingo and games and have a piano; they have people that come out and sing, so there's a variety of things to do in that one common room.
