My mom has been in Guadalupe Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. It's really full, and she has her own room, but she pays over $4,000 a month. She pays a lot. The staff members are all nice. I know sometimes they have staffing problems, but most of the staff there has stayed there for as long as I've known them. She doesn't like the food. The facility is always clean and they have activities all the time. They always bring animals to the facility, not just dogs and cats, but different animals like llamas, horses, donkeys, and snakes. They had a Thanksgiving dinner for the families, and I have been there for that, and they let you in to have birthday parties in their family room for the family members of the people that live there. They also do bingo. She just had a regular room and it looks like a regular nursing home. She has a couple of closets, the sink, the bathroom where she gets her shower, and her bed. There's nothing special about it.

My mother is at Guadalupe Valley Nursing Center. I haven't been impressed with them. They're not very attentive at all. Their activities are available, but for handicapped residents, there's no great effort to get them from the rooms to the activities. Working with the administrative staff has been very difficult. It has not been a smooth relationship at all. The food is mediocre. It's not terrible, but not good either. The facilities are very utilitarian. The staff in the nursing home is not good.

the call system is horrible. The resident pushes the call button and a light comes on in the hallway and if the hallway isn't monitored the resident sometimes has to wait 20 to 30 minutes to get the help they need and if it's for a bathroom trip they often have to lay there in their own waste which has to be humiliating and also if the call in the bathroom switch isn't reset the call button in the room won't work. I give a failing grade for the call system. The food arrives in the residents room cold(who wants to eat cold scrambled eggs and soggy toast and drink lukewarm coffee or iced tea that doesn't have ice left it?) a failing grade for the food. My Mom was asked what activities she likes and then wasn't taken to any of them, another failing grade. She said the nurses treated her rough and one was mean to her. the floors were often dirty and sticky, the paper towel dispenser in the room was out of paper towels for almost a week and if you look up at the ceiling the air conditioner vent was filthy with what looked like black mold. On the bright side the maintenance man brought Mom a decent tv to watch. It was hard to even give one star.

Guadalupe Valley Nursing Center is a very nice place. The staff was very good, but the head nurse is not very empathetic. She's rather staunch and cold. But the rest of the staff was very loving and warm and do a lot to make my parents feel good. It is a very clean place.
