My mom moved into Brookdale Oakwell. She feels comfortable there. I like that it's an open area where she could feel free to roam. I also like the fact that they have activities every day for them to stay occupied. I also like that they have a really good schedule, as far as when breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served. The dining area looks like a restaurant. It's very well organized. The staff there is incredibly caring. They're always ready to help and answer questions. My mom likes the food. They give them desserts, and she's a dessert person, so she loves it. So far, I've seen bingo and little exercises that they do on the chair.

I liked the idea that the staff at Brookdale Oakwell was there all day. The dining facility looked great, and the grounds were clean. It looked like a great place. But my mom was looking for a room with a separate bedroom, and I believe they only had studios available. They had a shuttle service that would take my mom to her doctor's appointments. They also had a doctor who would come by. If you didn't want to go to your old doctor, you could use the medical service that they had come by. They had laundry and cleaning once a week. The staff who gave me the tour did a great job.

My mother-in-law moved into Brookdale Oakwell. We're not happy with the community for several reasons. They didn't put her on the housekeeping schedule, so her apartment went unclean for over ten days. They didn't put her on the shower schedule, so she wasn't bathed for over ten days. She doesn't get the attention she needs when she pushes her call button in a timely manner or at all, and she had a fall on Sunday that resulted in her going to the hospital.

I've toured Brookdale Oakwell, it was very nice and everyone was very courteous. The only thing is I have to prepare in advance for my mom to have the appropriate furniture because we need to provide that. Now she has furniture, but it wouldn't be appropriate for the little room that they're going to put her in. They showed me the meal schedule that they have. The room has a sitting area, a kitchen area, its own private bath area, and a twin bed section with a nightstand and a dresser. They had an exercise area, they had very nice patio-type areas where the presidents can go out and visit when it's nice weather. It was a nice place and the staff was very nice and they're very transparent about everything. The facility was very clean.

Brookdale Oakwell was fine, but it was too far for my father to go to. We visited the memory care and the staff was very good. They were caring people. The place was clean and they have a courtyard that they could go to. I found the rooms to be small, but that's just because I'm used to having my own place.

My dad will be moving into Brookdale Oakwell. It's a small community. Everyone we met, including office staff, were very friendly, very helpful, very warm, and just comfortable to talk to. He's moving into a studio, and we liked the configuration. It's very nice. The dining room is also lovely, and there's just a lot of light throughout the building. I guess the only thing that it lacked was the grounds have really been hit by the drought, and so it's a kind of concern.

The overall experience at Brookdale Oakwell was good. They sat down with me and asked very, very specific questions. They gave me some ideas that I hadn't thought of, which was good. I was able to see the residents in an activity, which was helpful because it was one of the first places I went. The staff was very nice and very knowledgeable about my options and was able to give me some ideas to help figure out how we were going to pay for all of this and whatnot. The rooms were very, very nice. It reminded me of the apartment my daughter lives in, so it was like a very homey place. Their courtyard could use a little updating as far as their paint because you could see the weather has taken its toll on some of the outsides of the building within that courtyard. Other than that, it was good. I felt that the courtyard area needed a new coat of paint and a little love. I didn't try the food, but the dining area was nice. The dining area was easy for the residents to access because it was right across the hall from where they do their activities, so that looked ideal for me. They were getting ready to start a new program with some music. They had everybody in the room getting ready to begin their music or whatever they were doing. I had no problem with the staff. They were very polite, very nice, and very helpful.

My husband was there for respite care. He was supposed to stay 3 weeks, at day 11 I took him home. He had lost 6 pounds and had a black eye. Originally he was supposed to be in memory care, but due to covid they kept him in assisted living. I was promised they would take good care of him. Every day I went there to sit with him because they left him unattended in the activity room in the evening. They administered his medications completely wrong, disregarded the directions on the containers. There was no explanation where he got the black eye. There was no report, nothing. Apparently NO ONE NOTICED IT!!!!

The staff at Brookdale Oakwell is really good there. It's so welcoming. The only downfall was the price is a little higher than what I wanted it to be. Everything else in the facility looks nice. I can see that the residents look like they're happy to be there. The staff makes the biggest difference. It's a small facility, so there's not a whole lot of space. They had a library and a salon there.

We researched the staff ratio to resident ratio at Brookdale Oakwell, and it was about the poorest in San Antonio. We declined Brookdale for that reason. My mom us also very happy at home. What we choose was just slightly more than Brookdale. She has a live-in caretaker. The apartment layout at Brookdale was a bit better than the other place we toured, and it was a bit larger. We checked into the staff and resident ratio, and it was pretty poor. I talked to a few of the residents, and they said they would call and someone would never show up. That concerned me quite a bit. It's a pretty facility and the rooms are nicer. We saw some people playing bingo and their dining hall.

Brookdale Oakwell was very nice. It was less expensive, which was nice, because they were running a 20 percent discount. It was older, it felt closed in to me, and it had an older smell to it, but the people were very nice, and it seemed like it was well run. The room they were going to give me needed new carpet, so seeing it as not yet clean was kind of a turnoff. The staff was very good, informative, and knowledgeable.

My wife is at Brookdale Oakwell. It is close to where I live. The staff is very good, knowledgeable, and friendly. I have not tasted the food myself, but she enjoys it. They have games, and they also have memory games. It's really nice. They're friendly, and they help you out a lot. I think it is a good place.

I did an in-person tour of Brookdale Oakwell. It seemed very nice and very upscale. The person that I visit with who was the marketing person was very, very nice also. The facilities were just very clean and very neat, but my husband's sister was helping me choose and she preferred another one and just because we had a good friend whose husband was there, and their experience was so good and they were so responsive. But I'm generous about rating Brookdale Oakwell since they were very nice.

Our tour at Brookdale Oakwell was fine. They only have two apartment sizes, from inexpensive to very expensive, with nothing in-between. I only met one staff member. They provide transportation except on weekends; they have their own little bus. They take their residents to three or four places during the week if they want to go.

I liked that Brookdale Oakwell was clean and that the people were courteous. There's a studio and a regular room, and they're equipped with a bathroom and a chair in there. They also have a vanity. The studio can have up to two people. They have 24-hour care there, covered parking, and I like that you need a code to get in, which makes it very secure.

My mother is at Brookdale Oakwell. I'm very pleased with it, and it's very impressive. They've been very good, they've done everything they said they were going to do. Other friends who have family in different cities also with Brookdale have been pleased and thrilled. Everything has been great. The staff is courteous, and the food has been excellent. They come in and clean and take care of everything. The food presentation is great, the aroma, everything's very well prepared, and it's like going to a nice restaurant. They take them out on field trips, play games, puzzles, and bingo. I've walked in there different times of the day, and it's always been the same. They're very kind to people. There's nothing negative to say.

Brookdale Oakwell was a good community. The room was too small, which was a big factor. I liked the courtyard area. The place was off the road and in a quiet neighborhood.

I did go to Brookdale Oakwell for my husband. They were very personable, and friendly. They seemed sincere. They asked a lot of questions on what we really need, and what I want for my husband. They showed me one room where somebody has been living, and it was nice. It had a restroom, and a TV. It was very nice.

Mom has been at Brookdale Oakwell for ten years. Nine years it was managed by another company before Brookdale took over, and that is the reason we left. Before Brookdale, things were well-managed, and the pricing was fair. After they took over, the prices went sky-high. The activities became less, and the food was never improved. The staff were okay. It’s the new management that is not good. The food became terrible.

Brookdale was an OK place and looked fine. I didn’t have any negative comments about it at all. It was clean to me, and the staff was nice and accommodating. The rooms were fine and looked OK. I like the fact they changed the carpets out, and I like the idea that they had memory care.

It was beautiful, but it was way too expensive. It was wonderful; I loved it. The rooms were a little smaller, but they were of adequate size. The staff seemed really friendly. It was just a beautiful place. The dining room was very nice.

Mom has been here for a week and so far so good. They have given my mom extra care. They have a lot of activities. They take the residents to the doctor's appointments. They also take them to Walmart and Target.

I would love to place my husband here if he was eligible because they seemed to be very good, but they don't take patients who had feeding tubes on their stomach. But they seemed to be a very nice place to go. Their rooms were very nice and had kitchen facilities. Their dining room was in an average size. They had lots of activities. What I liked best about them was the fact that they seemed to know all their residents and they were able to personalize things. They seemed to really want to help them. I was impressed.
