My sister is at Killeen Nursing and Rehabilitation. It all seems very good. The only thing right now is, they're a little short-staffed. So, some things may not be getting done. It's clean, the furniture looks good, and everything looks new. My daughter calls her aunt every day, and lots of times the nurses' station does not answer. They usually take the phone to my sister so she can talk with my daughter, but she hasn't been able to get in touch with them now for a couple of weeks. They don't answer or they don't call her back. I don't see any activities; my sister is pretty much bedridden. I don't know what she does for the 24 hours a day that she just lays there, so that bothers me a bit. The actual staff that tends to the patient seems well, but the director of nursing seemed a bit standoffish. My sister is on Medicare and Blue Cross, and I don't know what they're charging her. They need more staff.

We toured Killeen Nursing and Rehabilitation. They have an indoor courtyard inside and in the center of the building, which has a water fountain and whatnot. That was beautiful because it gave them the time outside and they could sit by the water fountain. They can talk and whatnot, but the one thing I did notice was that the dining area was so far away from the rooms. It was on the other side of the building. The rooms on one side, she had to go all the way around the building to get to the dining room or she'd have to go outside and cut across the courtyard. They have facilities for them if they want to do their own laundry. They did have a little area where they could cook their own food, not in their room, but in a little area like the rehabilitation area. They do have washers and they have a little stove in the kitchen area that they could do their own cooking, which kinda shocked me because if you're in a nursing home, why would you let somebody do their own cooking? But, the staff was friendly. The area seemed clean. They only showed us one room that they called the model room. They showed us the dining areas and the recreation areas. They didn't show us anything else. The person who did the tour could have been a little more friendly because she was a little curt. It's like we were taking up her time, but when you watched the interaction with the nurses and everything, it was okay. They seem to care about the patients.

My dad likes Killeen Nursing and Rehabilitation. He is happy with it. He has been there for three weeks now. We toured the entire facility, and it was very nice. The nurses are really good. They remember me every time I walk in, but of course, I'm there every day. They check in on Dad constantly. He is doing therapy, which is good. The residents are all really friendly and stuff. My dad has been doing pretty well there. The long-term residents have shared rooms. Skilled nursing is where my dad is at. He got a private room, which is pretty spacious, and it's got its own little AC. He is comfortable and stuff. They have a PT room or a gym. They have a little store there so the residents can shop. They have a large atrium in the center. They have craft rooms and therapy rooms. They also keep everybody busy.

Killeen Nursing and Rehabilitation is a very clean and spacious facility. I've spoken with the director, the admission specialist, the business officer, the nursing staff, also the caregivers, and they were all very professional. I can be at peace knowing that my mother is in good hands, and I am very close to her so I can visit her regularly. They also are very conscious about COVID. They are making sure that their staff is tested regularly and people coming in to visit must wear a mask. They have their hand sanitation stations. They also make sure that I just go in to speak with my mom only, not just wander around the place. They have a special kind of mask that we must wear (the medical one), and so we can't just wear any type of mask to protect those residents and people that are there. The food smells delicious to me, and most of the time my mother is eating it all. She has balanced meals with protein foods like meat, mashed potatoes, vegetables, dessert, and always something to drink. In the front lobby, they have a piano and one of the residents was playing it. I thought it first was another person that they had hired to come in for entertainment because it was just so beautiful. They also have an activity area, a television, and games; some of the residents may not be able to play them all. They also have physical therapy, and the gym is really beautiful and really nice with enough equipment to use. My mother is on Medicaid, so I really wouldn't know how much we pay. As far as how they've handled the business of getting her admitted, they've been very helpful in getting things I need done (even faxing to the Social Security office a form that my mother needed to have signed by one of the doctors). They've been very kind and very helpful with all of these.
