I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident Oak Shadows is a great place for both assisted and independent living. Our family was worried about putting my sister in a facility, fearing that she may be homesick or mistreated. We came for the facility's Thanksgiving dinner and were happy to hear that our sister loves the community. She raved about the office staff and Cindy the head of the personal care attendants. She mentioned the names of two close women that had become her friends and attended bingo in the activity room. Michelle, who is the activity director is happy and always present to assist with each resident. Highly recommend! Martha

Oak Shadows Retirement and Assisted Living is an old community, but the maintenance and everything are very good. The place is clean, and the staff is friendly so thats what I like. Ive been living here for over a year. Weve got some really good meals and some so-so, but Id say the food is good overall. Theyve got something going on just about every day, like trips to the grocery store or shopping center, so its up to what you want to do more or less. Its the most economical place in the area.

Oak Shadows was not nice at all. The grounds were pretty, but it wasn't good. The apartments looked gloomy, and the hallways were dirty. The staff was fine and hospitable. They showed me an occupied apartment. They didn't have an empty apartment ready to show me, which was another thing I wasn't happy about.

I like my 2-bedroom apartment in Oak Shadows. You can have the temperature on or off. They have no activities to speak of, so I'm really dissatisfied with that, they just play Bingo on Tuesday afternoons. The activity room has a broken color TV, broken exercise equipment, and a broken computer, and they've been that way for 12 years or so. They take you on your medical appointments, so thats good. The food is horrible though. The maintenance people are also pretty attentive.

I toured Oak Shadows Retirement. The staff looked courteous. There was a big hall where people could sit. The rooms were like studios. The facility was nice, quiet, and secured.

A big let down. Staff is unprofessional, things never get fixed in a timely manner. The amount of food served to the residents is not even sufficient enough to feed a small child. It seems like everyone here has they're own agenda. My mail has been stolen on several occasions. I've asked to have mailbox fixed several times, to no avail. We have black mold problems yet to be addressed. I would never recommend anyone live here. I don't seven think STATE pays much attention to the the problems of the tenants living here!!!! Very Sad

Oak Shadows' apartments were very nice and clean, but what they were giving me on paper for the size and price was something totally different. They showed me a unit that was not the same as what they were advertising. Instead, it was larger in size, but what I was being shown on paper was a lesser cost. If I hadn't asked, they would have never told me that it's not the same apartment. They'd start changing the price even more depending upon the view, but the view is bad either way you look at it. If you're in the back of the building, you'd look out on an open field, and if you're in front, you'd look at the main highway. The person who assisted me was average and he wasn't very knowledgeable because the sales person was not there that day.

My experience with Oak Shadows was very positive. The staff was very helpful and cooperative, it was good. They have everything, like a fitness and exercise room, cafeteria, and activity center. It's an older building, but my brother's room is very nice. It's like he lives in his own apartment and the price is very reasonable.

I am a resident of Oak Shadows Retirement and Assisted Living. It is very big and has many activities going on. There are people here who are high functioning and people who need assisted living but live very productive lives. They are disabled but not disabled mentally. The place is very refreshing. There's a library, an activity room, exercise room, a place where you can play bingo or dominoes, and areas to walk. The staff is helpful and friendly.

This place is the most horrible place you can ever take a family member to! They are infested with bed bugs, serve left overs, don't cook the food well done. They don't care about the residents all they care about is the money! They may act like they care but they don't care they're more worried bout the pay check I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Oak Shadows doesn't keep up its grounds. It's not esthetically pleasing to look at. The staff seemed to be quite conscientious. I went to the library this morning. The room has a bathroom, a big closet, a living room, and a kitchen.
