My mother lives in Mirador Retirement Community, so I'm there a lot. Her experience is very positive, that's what's probably causing her concern about moving. It has all the levels. It has memory, assisted, independent, and skilled nursing. She was in their skilled nursing before while she recovered from hospital stays. If someone calls for help, e.g., maintenance help, they're there in two seconds. She's in independent. She and her friends are not happy with the food, and that's coming from my mother. There's not a lot of flavor. Her room is gorgeous, huge, and very nice. The have a committee that actually has residents on it with the independent home staff to get the views of the residents, and they try to listen to what they need or want. They just changed ownership about two years ago, so I think they're still going through that shift in ownership. Except for the food issue, everything else is fabulous. It's expensive, but so are all these. It was expensive to move in, but I don't know what their new deals are now. My parents bought into it when it was just being built.

Mirador is not as fancy as the other place. It was clean. The people there were very pleasant. We were looking at a one-bedroom and it seemed to be pretty spacious. The staff was OK. A few residents were outside, and they seemed really friendly. However, I think it's a little bit older than the other place. And it's a little bit close to traffic, and I don't know how noisy it would be there.

They didn’t seem that concerned about the residents. They would walk past them in the hall and not say, “Hello.” There wasn’t a community area for the residents. They basically had the hallways that they could roam up and down and their room, and that was it. There wasn't an area for them to all get together anytime they wanted. They had little community events but only at specific times. The rooms were more like studios. They had a pool.

Mirador was wonderful, very nice, clean and friendly. They have lots of activities to offer for the residents. I was very impressed. The rooms are big, roomy, and clean. They have physical therapy, library, and sitting rooms. The staff was wonderful.

It was "The Cadillac" of all the places in Corpus Christi, but the price was too. It was very formal, stunningly gorgeous with a beautiful swimming pool, athletic rooms, barbecue pits, shaded areas, and open areas. It was a very beautiful place, but its formalness was a little off-putting for my father. It had the best grounds and the best of what was going on outside of the apartments. They have independent living with a separate dining room. They have an entire building and wing dedicated to assisted living and they have a separate wing for skilled nursing.

We have resided at Mirador for 3 years. After several years of visiting retirement communities in Austin, Texas, we found this to be the most affordable Live Care community We live in an Independent Living apartment and love the activities and access to interesting explorations of the Corpus Christi coastal area. Big selling point for us....20 minutes to the beach which makes a morning walk on the beach a part of our life and love to watch the hatchling turtle releases at the National Seashore.

Mirador was very expensive but very nice. They had assisted living, but they also have skilled nursing. So the people who need a little more care can still be in there apartment but get more assistance. They also had long-term care, which was nice. They still get more assistance, but they have their own, little apartment. They had complete assisted living just like nice apartments. You could go in without any problems and live in the regular apartments, which were beautiful, and as you deteriorate or something medical happens, you could go into the other area. They had beautiful dining rooms that felt like you were in a beautiful restaurant. They had chefs prepare the food. They didn’t accept my father, though.

Thank you for the wonderful message, Betty. We're proud to offer living options that compliment our residents' unique needs, the cost of which varies by the types of services required. Through this progression of care, we provide residents and their families reassurance that the retirement they spent so long pursuing won't be hindered or jeopardized by future medical requirements. If you have any additional questions, or would like to discuss your father's particular circumstances further, please contact me directly at a time of your convenience. We visited everything at Mirador. We had a very pleasant visit. The place and the apartments were lovely and they were very nice people. If you have the money, I would definitely recommend the facility. I thought it was very expensive. My son who is a gerontologist said it was not. It was very reasonable so it depends on what you know and what you don't know and we just don't know those things.

My mom had lower back surgery last January and after that she went for rehab. They had a good facility and they performed her rehab well. They took care of her. They had good food and it was very good experience.
