My mom is at Hudson Creek Alzheimer's Special Care Center. It's a small, 66-bed facility, and I like that it's specifically attuned to Alzheimer's. The people are very engaging, and we got to speak with Nigel, who's overseeing the facility. He is very, very knowledgeable in the field that he's been in for a long time. Their staff to patient ratio i s pretty high too, and I like that. It's a pretty new facility as well. They are really, really focused on the Alzheimer and Dementia patients, and what they can provide for them on a daily basis. We just had that warm, comfy feeling that everybody was sweet and tender. I don't think their marketing was anything special, because the pricing is all the same pretty much. One of our biggest concerns was that they have private suites, and then they have dual suites where the bed is basically in the same room. We were very, very hesitant about that, but they explained that we could give it a shot for my mother and she could start off by herself, and then eventually be asked to help another resident find her way around, and kind of have team camaraderie moments. We'll see how that works out, since she's only been there for a little bit, and she's been on quarantine since the beginning. She's been eating well and they have been doing activities and games with her in her room. Today, she'll be moved into the general population and can now start doing activities with the other residents.

I toured Hudson Creek Alzheimer's Special Care Center. I just loved it. It felt like home. They had everything that we needed for the situation that we are in. They specialize in is Alzheimer's, so they know what they're doing. They have been trained to take care of people with Alzheimer's. I like the fact that they had alarms on all of the rooms, and they know when they are out of the bed. It's gated, so they can't get out. They are allowed to roam wherever they want to. They really encourage them to stay out of their room. The one that I'm looking into would be a private room, and it is very spacious. There is enough room for his bed and a couch. When he has visitors, there is plenty of room for everyone. There is a private restroom, and it's very user friendly. The staff that gave me the tour was very knowledgeable. She knew what she was doing, knew the space, and knew the clients. She also stopped to help people along the way. A couple of them looked like they needed a little help with their trousers. It was a good experience. The place didn't smell like urine. It was very clean and calm. There wasn't any chaos there at all. It's not a square building. They can wander and not feel like they are just in there. There are different angles and different halls that they can travel. It looks more like a home than a facility.

Hudson Creek Alzheimer's Special Care Center looks like it's well managed. I like the way they had the layout and I like that everyone there, even the maintenance people, is trained to deal with individuals with Alzheimer's because the facility was strictly for that. They could have other issues but everyone there at least had Alzheimer's so I liked the way they had the place laid out. The rooms were very nice too. Once you go in and go past the entrance, if you stand right in the center, you can see the whole facility. It's like a circle, you can see the whole thing. They had a garden area, I guess, to the right, and you go around it like a circle. If you were just standing there, you would be able to see those facilities just from the front part. I think the other thing that I like about them is that in the rooms, they had little cameras or something that would set off an alarm if a patient was in trouble. I forget what they call them but they have them in the rooms so they can see if a patient is in distress and it will send the alarm. I thought that was pretty neat. It's not intrusive, but they can watch out for them. I also felt that it was very, very clean and well-kept. Nigel, he was the administrator, he gave us the tour and we met the other staff. We met the maintenance and then, of course, the lady at the front entrance. It's memory care so you have to be let in and out. They had a person upfront and I believe they told us they have a nurse on-call, 24 hours.

Hudson Creek is really nice, and the staff is very nice and very accommodating. They have 2 persons to a room, and they do furnish the rooms. There were a bunch playing Bingo, the dining area looked really nice, and the whole place looked like a first-class hotel.

This is a beautiful and well managed facility. The staff is fantastic and have been caring for Alzheimer's patients for years. They know what they are doing and not only give your loved one a wonderful home, they extend their care to the family with support, education and a welcoming attitude every time you visit.
