My mother-in-law is at an assisted living facility called SoCo Village in Austin. All the nurses and the people that actually work with her are great. We have enjoyed them and their care. The management may be a little bit more difficult to work with. I think it's just communication. There seem to be gaps in communication between the admin, back to us, and to the nurses. Her room is good for her because she has a walker, and there's enough space to be able to get around. The showers also suit her. She's able to shower alone, which is a huge improvement. It's simple but it works. I've seen the activities listed. I haven't actually been to any of it, but it looks like they have quite a few offers. They have a happy hour, a movie night, and excursions. They take the residents to Wal-Mart and I think they go to a park regularly. They usually have a lunch outing once a week and they have art classes. They have a nail and hair salon downstairs too, which is cool. The place seems peaceful and people seem pretty happy. It doesn't feel depressing.

I had an in-person tour of SoCo Village. Their facility is approximately three years old, going into its third year, so the facility is very new and fresh. I was able to see the dining area where they come for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have a variety of menus for each meal time. They have an area for gatherings in case your family members want to celebrate or do something. The courtyard is very lovely. They offer some gardening that can be done nearby. They have a salon and a physical therapy area. They have several different options for your living quarters in the assisted living area. I'm particularly interested in the one bedroom. It was a model that I saw, which was very nicely done. I like the services that they offer, like how there's no additional cost for medicine management. They offer various discounts, which I found to be very helpful. The staff member was very knowledgeable and friendly. She was able to answer all of my questions.

We're going to choose SoCo Village for my brother. They met all our needs, and have the right price, and occupancy. We like the location, cost, and newness. It's only two years old so everything's nice. The room he will have has got a kitchenette, a living room, a bedroom, and a handicapped bath. They showed me the dining hall, the gym, and the music room. Everybody on the staff looks like they know what they're doing.

SoCo Village was brand new. The staff said it opened at the end of 2020, but because of COVID, they haven't had many residents yet, so it's still pretty empty. When you go into something brand new, everything's all sparkling and clean and they have crystal chandeliers in the dining room. It's fancy. The admissions director was very nice. We sat in her office, went over paperwork, she explained everything, and then we took a tour. While we were on the tour, we met the director of the whole place and she was very nice. As I was leaving the place, the nurse for the facility walked up and she introduced me to him and said that he would be the one going to assess my mother before she would be admitted. Those were the only people that I met. The dining room was fancy. The chairs and tables were modern. Some tables would seat four people. Some tables would seat more. Because I asked her about wheelchairs and walkers, she said, "If they're like in a wheelchair, they can wheel right up to the table." I noticed some of the tables didn't have chairs and spaces, so that might have been for people with wheelchairs. They had a whole bunch of chandeliers. We looked at two different sizes of studios, a smaller one and then a larger one. The smaller one had the kind of flooring that looks like wood, but it's not. The larger one had carpeting. The larger one was more spacious, but they were both decent size, and the bathrooms were very spacious. One of the bathrooms had a fold-down seat in the shower and the other one had a molded seat. There were lots of room to move around with a wheelchair or a walker in the restroom. You'd have room to even put a little dresser or something in there if you wanted. The larger studio had a kitchenette, a sink, a refrigerator, a microwave, but no dishwasher. The smaller studio has a space where you can put one of those smaller refrigerators and then it has a shelf on top where you could put a microwave, but there's no counter space or anything. The facility was brand new, so everything looked brand new and very clean. It's like when you walk into model homes. They have the hair salon, a media room, which was pretty big, probably 10 to 12 fluffy recliner chairs to watch a movie, and they've got cupholders on those chairs. They had a big-screen TV, and on Sundays, they have a church service and people can come and watch the service on that screen. They had a library and different sitting areas throughout. It's a two-story and they have an elevator. There were some rooms on the second floor. Most of the rooms though are on the first floor and their memory care unit is on the first floor because we passed it.

SoCo Village was nice. I like it and I put $500 down. The staff said that it's OK, that if I decide I don't want it, I could get it back because I have a few days to make a decision. The facility was very clean and bright. The staff was very friendly. The lady that waited on me was very knowledgeable. She gave me the opportunity to ask questions, and she took me around the whole facility. I also like the location because it's more central Austin. I didn't try the food, but it smelled good. The dining room was gorgeous like they had a regal-like restaurant. They have chandeliers and everything; it was really pretty. It was smaller compared to some of the other ones, but it was very nice, and they had activities. They have outdoor activities. The residents could plant things if they wanted to, and it was very nice. Then there was a trail right outside the door that walked around, and they could walk around there, and it was nice. It was smaller than the other places, but it was newer. I like it. The staff seemed nice.
