My grandfather has moved into Buckner Villas. We chose it because he had some friends that were already there. It's been a very positive experience. I like that they encourage social interactions. They have an activity calendar that has something every morning, and then there's a separate activity at 2:00 every day. There's a chapel once a week. They help provide transportation to and from appointments within a certain radius, so that helps with doctors and all of that. They have the option to eat in the dining room or to eat in their room, but I like that they still encourage them to be social to come to community events. I think that's a big one just because he was struggling with some depression with being by himself for so long. He has access to outdoor areas. There's a courtyard where he can walk around. There are some vegetables and things that they have planted in the back, but then he can also go out the front and there's kind of a roundabout that he can walk if he wants to take his walker out there. There's an activity area. They have exercise, dominos, weekly trips to H-E-B, bimonthly trips to Wal-Mart, ice cream socials on Wednesdays, and happy hour on Fridays. They have a beautician who comes in and for a nominal fee, she'll provide shampoos, washes, and haircuts for men and women. On Tuesdays, there's somebody who comes in and leads an activity at 2:00. There's also a bible study on Wednesday mornings. One of his favorite parts is the food. They've got a nice snack menu. On Tuesdays, if you give a two-hour notice, you can have hamburgers, sandwiches, and pizza delivered to your room. He can have anything on the menu and then he can also order breakfast, lunch, and dinner and have that delivered to his room or he can eat that in the dining room. He's mentioned having fish. I think they did barbecue one time. There are pies and they've got a big selection of desserts that he can have at lunch or dinner. Everybody smiles. They're pleasant. They seem to be very understanding of the age group and some of the difficulties. My grandpa had just gotten his hearing aids fixed and they were going to assist him with some bathroom needs and he said, "I just took my hearing aids out." The staff member just leaned in very close and she said, "OK." She was trying to make sure that he was heard and understood, even though he didn't have his hearing aids in. Everything was clean. It looks like a brand new carpet. They clean it every day. I went over there one day and then I went three days later and both times it looked like the carpet had just been vacuumed.

I will be moving into Buckner Villas. It had an apartment available at the time we were looking, whereas all the other places had a long wait. This place has a washer and dryer in the apartment rather than a communal one down the hallway that you share with other residents. They also have a parking garage, rather than parking your car outside or in a carport. The staff was very good and accommodating. The apartment is about 1,200 square feet. It has a large kitchen, two bedrooms, two baths, and a lot of storage space. It's light and airy, with a lot of windows and tall ceilings. I got a completely furnished kitchen with a large side-by-side refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, and all the appliances that you need. They have one-bedroom apartments and cottages outside of the main building. They have movies to offer, all kinds of classes, a swimming pool, and a jacuzzi. They have a lot of water aerobics and water classes. They have a good-sized athletic area with new machines. They have transportation off campus. They provide meals. We got a complimentary meal during the tour, and it was excellent.

My mother is in Buckner Villas. She lived there in independent living and now she's going to go over to assisted living. She's been in the skilled nursing part of it for about a month. The staff members are very helpful and a large number of them have been there for many years. They've got longevity there. They've got more floorplans than I've ever seen before. They have one-bedroom and two-bedroom, but they have different layouts. She has a view from where she is. She was in a one-bedroom, but it seemed very spacious. It had a full kitchen, one bedroom, one bath, a walk-in closet, and tons of storage space. I've had a meal there and the food is good. They bring the food to your table. You don't have to go through a cafeteria line. They have a lot of in-house activities. They have an inside swimming pool, Taichi, yoga, and a lot of other things. They also have activities outside or people will come in. The grounds are very pretty.

My wife and I stayed in the independent living at Buckner Villas. I thought it was well managed and it was easy to find out information. Everyone was quite friendly. I liked the fact that they had a dedicated exercise person there in their gym, so you could always go to the gym and find somebody there that would help you, either with the machines or the pool or other sorts of things. Overall, the food was somewhat better than what my wife is getting at the other place. It's not exactly gourmet, but I consider it a step up from the other place. The building was older. The carpets looked a bit tired, but it was pretty easy to get around there. It also has a memory care unit, but it seemed a lot more depressing inside and things were older and darker. They tried hard when it comes to their activities.

Buckner Villas was newly renovated. It was very, very nice. The people were also very nice. The location just didn't work for me, but if people live out in that area, it's a great place.

Buckner Villas was impressive. It's clean, people seemed to be engaged, the staff was friendly, and everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves. It was a very positive tour experience. The rooms were very, very nice and adequate, and the person who toured us was very helpful, open, and seemed very knowledgeable. Everybody that they encountered knew their names. It was just an impressive visit. The dining area also looked good and they had a full array of things. They had a swimming pool, fitness equipment, a chapel, board games, and just about anything anybody could want.

My parents are in Buckner Villas and they are liking it. The staff members have been wonderful. Any questions we have, anything that we need to be fixed, they've been wonderful throughout that. The residents are just so welcoming and the employees too. They have a gym, an indoor pool, yoga, and they have movies. The staff calls the residents by name and there doesn't seem to be a lot of turnovers. The food is wonderful; I've had their spaghetti, ham, meatloaf, and their appetizers and fish are very good. The facility is very clean and it smells clean, they do a nice job. They have little clubs, but it's very faith-based facility. They have Bible studies. They play all kinds of card games. They have a Spanish club, a German club, and things like that.

Buckner Villas was a beautiful facility. It's fairly new, well taken care of, very spacious, and welcoming, but the price range was not for me. The staff I met was very easy to talk to. I liked the openness of the meal situation. I think they don't have a swimming pool available yet, but they were planning to have one. The dining room was very nice and very classy, too.

I have always loved this place. All of the staff working everyday seem to care about the residents and want to make this a nice place to live and enjoy their lives. I know many of the staff by name and I visit often. Let me preface my comments and ONE STAR review with a bit of history. I have been visiting this place since it opened in 2011 and have had a few family members living in this facility over the past several years. Yes it is beautiful, the staff working everyday are great. My issues are within the past 6 months or so. The food quality has changed and higher management seemingly has a focus on the bottom line much more than the quality of certain aspects, especially the food and even resident comments about the food particularly. I say this with a lot of experience, this is not a random post about one bad meal. It is the overall quality of the food service and overall higher management care or concern for the comments and thoughts from the residents themselves. Also, this is not a reflection of the everyday staff themselves, it is a reflection of what seems to be higher management pinching pennies. They recently expanded the facility and it houses many more residents now, as a result, they should have a great deal more income, yet they have not increased staffing. They have also changed food vendors. Honestly, my current family member is picky, I will admit. Originally I thought it was just her being difficult, but now I have seen it first hand. I am not so picky and notice a significant reduction in quality as well as a significant dismissal of resident thoughts on the changes. This makes me sad as it has been nice for so many years, maybe things will improve sometime soon. When they do, I will happily update me review.

My mother moved into Buckner Villas, and she's doing well. We've been very happy with it, it's extremely clean, and when you drive up the grounds are immaculate; they're always working on the grounds. It's a very beautiful place, they have the villas for independent living, they have assisted living, nursing care, and a dementia unit. They check on her several times a day to make sure she's doing OK. She's very happy there, they have activities for them like exercise classes every morning, worship every Sunday, and she's made some new friends. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Her room is very clean and neat, they're cleaned once a week, and it smells good when you walk into the building and into the rooms. The food is hit or miss. They have a podiatrist that comes in once a month, and a massage table with a masseuse, so you can schedule a massage.

I really liked Buckner Villas Retirement Community. If they had been available in a day or two, that's where we would have put Mom. It was a clean place, and it didn't have that nursing home/hospital smell to it. The staff seemed very friendly and the place was really good. The staff we interacted with was really great. They had quite a few apartments, from independent living, to assisted living, to skilled nursing. It was a large complex with several buildings in different areas, and the grounds were well-maintained. It was a very pleasant experience.

Pro's: central location Con's: Facility is in need of major renovation, poor hygiene (when patient is changed, material/bedding is thrown on the floor), nurses are not trained for hospice patients, expensive for private pay, food is terrible (cafeteria food), some patients are neglected because of staffing levels

Buckner Villas was a beautiful place with several levels of care. I went to the part that had people in the wheelchairs. I didn't see people talking to the residents. It was sort of custodial. They had activities and a piano player. My only concern was the lack of engagement with the residents. They need to talk and engage them more. The place is very clean and very organized. They do laundry and nursing help.

Buckner is trying to make money and save money, so where they should have probably more nurses, they have an LVN or two for a lot of elderly people. I heard people who sounded like they had pneumonia who then eventually would pass away. I wish there was some way the people could wake up and see what's going on. Most of the people, not all but most, were of African descent. It was not a happy experience for me at all. They did try to make adjustments, but if you have people working very hard at a very difficult job who are not paid well, they will just leave and no one can help that. They had physical therapy on site but no gym. If someone wanted some extra care, they would have to pay for it.

My husband’s grandmother is in Buckner Villas. It looks like a resort and it’s beautiful. They have a lovely pool, a weight lifting room, and exercise room. They had big hallways that were well-appointed. Their apartments are big and spacious, and the food is great. She has a two-bedroom apartment with a balcony, it’s really big, and like a regular apartment.

Buckner Villas would be our top choice for mom because it is super nice, and they have the best physical fitness program of anyone. They have a fulltime employee doing it, and she is awesome. You get most for your money here, but I don't think you'll be able to get in. I think they have a waiting list like ten miles long. It is a huge complex, and they have all different things there. They have memory care, assisted living, and independent living. They even have a deal where you put in money and live in a place then pay the rent. In the end you get like 90% of it back. They have lots of options. For the money, it is the best deal I've seen.

The staff at Buckner Villas seemed really nice. There has been quite a bit of literature and followup with several phone calls. They have a gym, a theater, and they have a scheduled transportation. They have a chef on staff who makes wonderful food and they also have a pastry chef. They are just incredible. This one is a continuing care community and they have cottages and apartments. We looked at the two-bedroom apartments and they were reasonably sized. They also have a storage facility in addition to the apartments and the houses. Everybody is allotted one storage unit. The staff seemed to care. Their staff has been there for awhile. That's what I like best about it. What they could improve on though is for the residents to have more say on how the facilities are operated.

We knew about Buckner Villas from my wife's grandparents because they were in Buckner many years ago. We visited the facility and we liked it. The place is very nice and very modern. The food was very good. Everyone was just very helpful. The staff looked they enjoyed with what they are doing.

Buckner Villas was a small complex and everything was brand new. It was an excellent place. If it was only my mother that I would move, but the place was not suitable for both my parents.

My friend from church hosts her personal events using the community facilities at Buckner Villa. As a result, I've seen the staff and resident interaction, tasted the food, experienced various events on site, and see that it truly provides a caring home-style environment where residents can maintain their personal activities and entertain. The staff is always pleasant and helpful. The public areas are clean and comfortable, and the food is exceptional. There are multiple food choices too. Last time I was there, we ate at a little bistro with sandwiches, desserts, salads, and snacks. Access to the community is easy, and it's close to shopping, dining, a variety of churches, and public transportation. I only give it four stars because they don't accommodate pets, which I feel is very important. However, some people don't want animals and I recognize that. Buckner offers a variety of care levels, various sizes of accommodations to suit singles or couples, and they welcome visitors too.

The admission process was easy, but lengthy. We met with a very friendly woman in the front office who had a stack of paperwork about one and a half inches high! She carefully went through each page with us, showing us where to sign (if needed), and gave us plenty of time to read each page in full if we wanted to. We never felt rushed. At one point, we had a question about the level at which my mother-in-law was qualified versus what we feel her true capabilities and needs are. We were easily able to stop signing paperwork while she contacted the director in charge of that unit, who immediately came in and talked to us about what kind of accommodations needed to be made for mother-in-law, and whether or not Buckner Villas could make such accommodations. It turned out that they could, and we enrolled mother-in-law into the home.

The Buckner Villas is a lovely retirement community in Austin that we decided to visit while in the area. Our uncle needs a supervised place to live. This estate is quite large, and is very well maintained. The spacious and beautiful apartments were like high-end condos we've seen -- only they provide a higher level of service and care for its residents. They can adapt care needs according to the residents, which is really nice. They can accommodate memory care as well as skilled nursing services. They have plenty of space for every activity you can think of, and a few more. There is also space for family and friends to visit. The staff is caring and very good at assessing the needs of the residents, from what we saw. The resident also get to enjoy many outings on the town for afternoon adventures in the city. The dining areas looked really spacious and the food delicious. The nutritious menus feature a variety of options for seniors to enjoy with many types of food. Snacks are always readily available and offered regularly. It was clear to us that the residents here were all very content and the staff very committed to providing the best living environment for the seniors who reside here.
