I toured Good Samaritan Society - Echo Ridge. I toured the independent living, but they told me they also have assisted living in a separate wing. It's like in a separate area of the facility. Their food was good. They were very friendly. I got to eat with one of the residents. All of the residents were very nice. They would come up to me and say how much they liked living there and that kind of thing, so I was very pleased. I liked how friendly everybody was. It's the best thing. They were wonderful. I had a meatloaf, a baked potato, veggies, and an ice cream, and the food was good basic home cooking. It was very tasty. It was a full-course meal. The structure of the building was very nice. It seemed like the kitchens had everything that you needed. The rooms were nice and large, and they were all very clean. So that was good. I felt welcomed and the atmosphere was very friendly. They had the best prices. Each apartment does not have its own individual porch, but they have a courtyard that everybody can use, so it's still very, very nice. I think it's a good deal for the price.

If I had known the poor quality of care that my mother would receive in this facility, I would have made the decision to move her much sooner than we did. She lived in the senior living apartments for several years prior to needing more care and we didn't have any problem there, but had no need to deal with staff then. She was totally independent. After her move to assisted living at Echo Ridge, we soon realized that the care that she needed was not being given! I am Mom's power of attorney for health care, and paid very closer attention to her. I went every evening and rarely saw a staff member, and in the short amount of time she lived there, they hospitalized her 4 times! Told us that if we didn't come to take her to the hospital, they would be forced to call an ambulance. Two of those admissions were possibly valid, two were definitely not and were unnecessary. They have only 1 nurse, and the other staff are all nurses' aides or med. aides. The one nurse works daytime hours, and there is no medical staff other than this. This nurse was very contrary toward us, and made several calls to me telling me that I was not allowed to visit my mother after 7:00pm. The other staff members, including the administrator at the time told me that there were no visiting hours and I was welcome to visit any time I wanted to, but this nurse insisted that I not come after 7pm. My Mom stays up until midnight or after every night of the week and has for as long as I've know her (61 years). This is when she is lonely and this is when she asked me to visit her. My brother and I were also lied to by this nurse in a care conference where she was telling us that Mom's level of care was being raised with an associated $700/month increase in cost. When asked why, she told us that Mom was being discharged from the home health nurse because she was unable to meet any of their goals. The day prior to this, the home health nurse called me to tell me that Mom was being discharged from home health visits because she had met ALL of their goals! I confronted this nurse, asking her administrator to call the home health office and put the call on speaker so the 4 of us could all hear the same thing. The manager at the home health office pulled my Mom's chart and read from the chart exactly what she told me. I told them to remove those charges from my mother's statement and that this nurse was not to go near my mother for the remainder of the time she was there, and I would be actively searching for a new assisted living facility, which we found that same week, and moved her immediately! She has received excellent care and we have nothing but praise for the staff and the beautiful facility where she currently resides.

We chose Good Samaritan Society at Echo Ridge because of two things. The apartment that they had was so nice and spacious. Also, my mother knew a couple other people that were there. The price was better than some of the other places too. They were incredibly friendly. We really liked the atmosphere there. The staff members were incredibly helpful. It was a really beautiful place. The apartments were really, really nice. The place was very clean. It just had the right atmosphere for her, and she already knew some people that were there.

Good Samaritan Society - Echo Ridge is a senior living apartment with attached assisted living, so it's a continuous care facility. The building has 59 units, with one meal, a complete kitchen, two-bedrooms, and one-bath. The staff was well trained and courteous. The dining area was close to the entrance, and it had a vaulted ceiling with beautiful, big windows. It was bright and clean, and there's an elevator there and the post office boxes are there, so it's very convenient. The washers and dryers were on each hall, so we could do our own laundry. They have light housekeeping once a week if it's desired. I was excited that I could cook some of my own meals.
