Carriage House of Sumter takes care of all of my mother's needs and they assist her with any additional things that she can't do on her own. We've been very pleased with them. The staff helps her with getting to the bathroom and taking a bath. Her studio apartment has everything except a kitchen. They have a dining facility in the building. They're doing rehabilitation where they're getting her up and walking more. They have games, outings, an exercise room, and a cafeteria. They're remodeling the place. They're very affordable.

This facility keeps their doors unlocked. It is a major safety concern for the residents. Just think of all who could just wander in or wander out. There was not even someone at the front desk and had to search for an employee. Please, keep searching and do not place your loved one in here.

3 years ago I would have given this facility 4 or 5 stars. Something has changed about this facility since the pandemic.I have a family member who has been residing in this facility. They got sick and had to be transferred to hospital. They spent 10 days in the hospital.I went to see them in may 2021 and they were able to walk easily with their walker as usual. The hospital determined them no longer able for assisted living and they had to be moved to rehab and then a nursing home. The carriage house of Sumter packed my family members clothes and sent them to the nursing home. All belongings have to be checked before they are given to a patient. All my relatives belongings were rejected because of bedbugs. The facility had been treating since april 2021 but didn't tell anyone including me on my visit in May 2021.I thought it was odd that we visited in the waiting area instead of their private room on this visit.I believe these bedbugs made my family member as sick as the infection they had that led to sepsis.I think they waited to long to send my family member to the hospital before seeking medical attention. I don't know if it came from poor staffing, unexperienced staffing or poor housekeeping? The administrator told me that my family member was sent out for observation and anything that happened didn't happen there that they walked out of the facility before being transported to the hospital. The administrator said if they had packed the belongings they would have instantly caught the bedbugs. You would think if it is late aug.2021 and they have had bedbugs since at least april 2021 they would have known to check clothes, a rocking chair, xmas decorations, lamp and a fan for begbugs. My family member lost all their belongings except their clothes that the Carriage house had to wash 3 different times and dry on high heat.I guess it wasn't important to the administrator that my family member had no clothes to wear until they got them supposedly cleaned the next afternoon around 5:30.These residents are the most vulnerable to be neglected because this is what I consider this situation.NEGLECT!
