My grandmother moved into River Oaks the second week of February. The staff is very accommodating. They allow us to drop in numerous times just to learn how things are going. We didn't have to have an appointment, which was important to me because I wanted the opportunity to be able to drop in at different times so it wasn't rehearsed. The place is very beautiful. It was recently renovated, so it looks very nice. They are very close to the water, so there's a coastal décor. Those were important to my grandmother. I'm impressed with their manager, nurses, and tech. I went by last night to check on my grandmother because she is sick, and they have been in her room numerous times to check in on her, everyone from the nurse, to the med tech, to the dietary specialist. Everyone checks on her. They give me real-time updates and are very good at communicating. The staff is excellent. My grandmother's room is a perfect size for her. They have an activities director who plans on-site activities as well as trips to different places. They allow us to come in and do activities, too. My little girl came and made Valentines with my grandmother and some of the residents. They're very welcoming and have a private dining room, so that you can have Sunday dinner with your loved ones. They'll bring everything right to you. There is always plenty of fresh fruit, water, and coffee.

River Oaks Assisted Living was clean and the atmosphere was good. The rapport among the clients, the family, and the workers was good. They have bingo, singing, church services, and fresh baked cookies every day. The CNAs come in and tend to them, and they take them from the bed to the chair and put them out in the social room. They had TVs everywhere, and they give them three good meals a day. The semi-private rooms were nice, but they could be a little larger. They keep them busy, and they have a memory care unit. The staff seemed friendly, courteous, and knew what their jobs were. They had someone who hands out the medications. I like that they have a room that you can reserve for family get-togethers, meals, or so you can have a party in seclusion. The price was reasonable. The lockdown or memory care unit was wonderful and reasonably priced as well.

Our experience with River Oaks Assisted Living was very positive. The person that talked with me and showed me around was very thorough and very professional. The rooms were a little small. The dining area was very nice. They seemed to have a good variety of activities.

River Oaks Assisted Living was very nice. The lady who took us on the tour was very pleasant, very nice, and very professional. She explained everything so my husband and I could understand it and showed us the rooms. We met some of the clients, and we had lunch with them. It was a very enjoyable and pleasant visit. The place looked very inviting, the atmosphere was welcoming, the clients seemed happy, and the staff takes care of the residents' needs. I liked the location. Everything's within three miles of the facility, like the downtown area and the church. If there's any place where my husband would go or we would go, it would be there. They had done a lot of improvements on the facility like the landscaping. The physical features of the building looked very nice.

The person who gave me the tour of River Oaks was extremely well informed and told me everything about the community. She was very friendly and welcoming. The place was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. She showed me the rooms where different activities took place, which looked very warm and homey. It seemed like they had many good things for people to do. I met a resident who just happened to be sitting on a lounge chair outside, resting, and he seemed very happy and comfortable. It also seemed very reasonable as a place for folks to have their loved ones live. The rooms were relatively small and they were more like rooms rather than apartments. There were a lot of public and shared spaces for socializing, but your loved one's own spot was basically just like a large bedroom, and some of them were to be shared and some were to be single. It had nice rooms for socializing and an attractive dining room. They also had transportation to various places.

The animals at the shelter live better than River Oaks residents. I toured this place in mid August and one of the residents complain to me, that he was kidnapped. He showed me his room which was roach infested. I walked around for 10 min before I seen any staff. None of the staff knew about pricing but took me over to the locked ward, which looks and smells like a nursing home/wheelchair city. This part have patients that need to be in a nursing home . I hope this is info is very helpful to anyone looking at River Oaks.

It is difficult at this time to write a review because of the many changes at this facility over the last three and a half years since my mother moved down from New York to River Oaks Assisted Living. One of the key issues in our opinion is to have a recreational program that meets the needs of the residents and keeps them active on a daily basis. Currently it appears that this goal is trying to be achieved .Hopefully this will continue. The quality of the food has been an issue since the beginning, however new staff in the kitchen seem to be making very positive improvements. We hope for success of the current owners and New Management staff!! If the current changes can be sustained we would be able to rate the facility at a higher level and will do so.

We moved Mom here (against her will because of her Alzheimer's) from Virginia in November. We were so nervous about the first visits after she was here because she was so angry at. us for bringing her. The Director, Lara, assured us that they would be close by to help with the visit and that they were there to support us as well as care for my Mom. Well there was NO need to worry - I came in to talk with Mom on her first morning there but I was SHOCKED to find her in an art class, painting! I was so nervous and here she is making new friends and trying new things every day! I cannot begin to express how happy we are but more importantly how happy Mom is! Hardest best decision we ever made!

The new management team is above and beyond the most caring, dedicated people I have come across. I brought my Mom from another local facility in November and she was barely feeding herself. With their expert care and programs she eats on her own, can put on her own shoes and enjoys activities AND LIFE again. I highly recommend this community and I HIGHLY recommend the new management led by Lara an exceptional Administrator. She listens and follows up and truly cares about the residents, staff and families.

I would go and have lunch on Saturdays with my friend at River Oaks Residential Care. They would accommodate me with something different if it wasn't something that I could eat. I did like the food. The place is always clean and they do have activities for the residents. However, they need to monitor their weekend and evening staff. That's all I would suggest. One weekend, I went out and read to my friend, and the staff just sat around watching TV. The nightshift is not as nearly as good, too. When you put a patient in bed it doesn't mean the patient will not have a need.

Wonderful facility. Staff is the most caring and helpful I met. Toured several facilities in Beaufort area and liked this the best. It is not your "high class" with tennis and all the extras. Has a very homey and loving feeling. Like you are one of the family. There is a Doctor associated with facility so no need to have to go out to see them. Meals are good and several options offered at each one. Activities throughout the week, including monthly "celebration" of birthdays. Beautician comes to facility weekly. My dad, whom had Alzheimers, moved there from the local rehab facility. They do all they can if patient ends up in hospital to get them back to "normal" as soon as possible. Rooms are nice sized and can be decorated by patient. I believe there are 2 different options available. Nurse on duty and option of daily one on one time at an added cost. Very conveniently located in Beaufort area and reasonably priced. Two things that helped us make our final decision. We have a senior dog that my dad was very close with and as long as they had up to date vet records the dog was allowed to visit, which he loved and so did other patients. They are also associated with hospice so if it becomes necessary patient does not have to move to nursing home they can stay there and pass in what has become familiar surroundings. My dad did pass in this facility and everyone was wonderful with the whole situation. I would high recommend
