My sister stayed at PruittHealth - Aiken for about a month. The management there was terrible. I asked them to get copies of the paperwork from the hospital because my sister wasn't supposed to be clinically able to make her own decisions. I requested immediately a social worker at PruittHealth to order it so it could be on the chart. A couple of days after my sister got there, they allowed her to sign herself out, but she wasn't clinically able to do that. So when I got there, I couldn't take her home, and then she would get mad at me. This happened two more times during her stay there, and it caused her to act out because she couldn't understand why they were labeling her with dementia. The doctor who comes to PruittHealth does not physically examine the patients. He goes off just the nurse's notes. The nurses have made mistakes, and they were covering themselves. My sister's clothes and blanket came up missing. If my sister wanted to go somewhere, they kept her at a fall risk, so she wasn't able to try to walk anywhere. Even though she could walk, she wasn't allowed to do that. They wanted her to be in a diaper in bed, or if she got out of bed, they wanted her in a wheelchair. I witnessed neglect while I was there. The patients, as well as my sister, were in soiled diapers. They did not give my sister a follow-up appointment with a cardiologist. She had had strokes, and she had no follow-up appointments scheduled for cardiologists, pulmonologists, any form of memory care, or for further analysis concerning her brain damage. We were appalled at the lack of care that we received. You walk down the hallway, and I smell nothing but pee.

The main reason we chose PruittHealth is because it is only about 10 minutes away from a hospital. The facility is very nice, very clean, and doesn't have a smell. Everybody is very nice there. The other reason we chose this facility is because it is VA contracted; my husband is 100% VA, so it does not cost us anything. I have tasted his food just to make sure it’s OK, and it has been very good. Someone comes in to play the piano, and groups come in to dance for the residents. The residents play cards and bingo.

I found the facility to be very clean. The walls had recently been painted and the carpet was freshly replaced. The bumpers on the wall had been cleaned and touched up. There was no odd odors that can frequently be present in an assisted living facility. The staff seems cordial but you can tell they are understaffed and overworked. The nurses didn't seem to have time to talk with you about the care of my loved one. My family member new the CNA's quiet well but didn't know who her nurse was. The food trays I saw seemed to be quiet nice and my family member always said they were good. The facility had at least 3 recreation activities a day that she could pick from and never seemed bored. Overall I would recommend this facility to anyone in Aiken looking for a place to help care for their loved one's.
