I am a resident of The Shook Home & Quarters at the Shook. It was clean. It was like a hospital setting. They were all good. The staff was good and friendly, and everything that you would expect. They have different things. They have arts and crafts and bingo. They have a dining room where you go and have your meals if you're capable. You always have your meds on time. The food was excellent. The people there really took pride in what they did.

I am at The Shook Home & Quarters at the Shook. They have two units here. They have a nursing home and a personal care assisted living section. We have good meals here. At first, they had to help me get up and get dressed, but I'm able to do that now myself, so I have improved a lot since I first came here. I'm satisfied with it. I have no problems. The staff is very friendly and very willing to help. They take care of anything. They take care of my doctor's appointments. So far, so good. The food is good. They give you what you want. They have menus that we fill out every morning for two days later, like this morning, I filled out the menu for Friday. You get choices and if you want ice cream or sherbet, they give you that. They have coffee, hot chocolate, or hot tea, whichever you want. They have bingo and bible studies. They have hymn singing tonight with the church coming in. You just call and they'll come if you need help. Everything's worked out pretty well that way. The staff takes care of me well.

The quarters at the Shook is a small, older facility with multiple floors and 30 or 40 residents. It seemed to be very well run. My mom seems to have acclimated, enjoys the activities, and knows some of the residents there. The only thing she doesn’t like are the fire drills. She also wishes they have more activities. The staff is responsive to everything and acts quickly. We liked that they have a nursing home there, too.

The appearance on the outside is very nice and clean. Even when you go into the facility everything is very polished and neat and organized. I did see some things while I was there that I didn't agree with. I don't know if it is standard procedure but it just didn't sit well with me at all. I saw several nurses wheel their clients into the hallway and just leave them there so they could go off and do other things. One client that I saw this happen to sat in the hallway in his wheelchair facing the wall for majority of the time I was there which happened to be an hour. Then my friend's grandmother had soiled her diaper and it took this nurse 20 minutes just to come in the room and check her. I wouldn't recommend sending any loved one to this facility.

This facility is one of the best facilities I have visited. The kind staff did everything they could to help my grandmother live the best life possible, and they were very understanding if we had any concerns. She really enjoyed the activities department, who do their best to accommodate a wide range of resident needs. The aides were on top of things, and the nurses were always there when they were needed. The resident to caregiver ratio was excellent when my grandmother stayed there, and the quality of care was excellent. They were always so kind to both her and us, and we always felt like they handled everything in the most professional, respectful way. Shook really went the extra step to adhere to privacy policies laid by the state and facility; we never heard any gossip going on while we were there. This is one of the only facilities that I have personally dealt with that I would recommend to anyone without a second thought.

I visited this facility as a caseworker with the county. The facility was always neat and clean. Residents were sitting outside enjoying conversation at times but did not seem bored. The activity board seemed to be lacking alot of variety, however it did have a decent level of activity to downtime. The employees seemed to care about the residents and were very careful to be sensitive to their needs. Residents I spoke to said the food is pretty good here as well. The facility is located in downtown Chambersburg and is walking distance from several markets and shopping locations.
