I have been staying at Smithville Western Care Center since October, and it has been really good. They have been remodeling and repainting the rooms and put a new floor, doors, and fire system in. They've also got new cooks. I had a private room when I first came in, but as I got on Medicaid, I had to share a room. They have crafts, TV shows, different programs, bingo and visiting animals. They also have the best nurses ever. Considering that they do the meals and laundry, I don't consider the price bad.

Understaffed. The staff that is available is kind and friendly. They just have too much to do and aren't able to take care of the clients.

Smithville-Western Care Center is a strictly hospital/nursing home atmosphere. They have a lovely lake in front of the facility and nice get togethers in the summer. They have very large and beautiful landscaping. The apartments are very nice for couples, but other than that, I am not pleased with it because the staff I spoke with when I inquired was not welcoming.

It was fine but it's not what my mom wanted. It was further away from me. The rooms were too small. I thought that it was fine except that it didn't have a sink and a kitchenette. She didn't like that and that's what knocked that one out.

The facilities are well maintained, the location allows the residents to go a nearby pond where they can feed ducks, and can also fish in a catch and release manner. Every year the activities director along with volunteer employees take the residents to the fair. The volunteers guide residents around the fairgrounds while the Director makes sure the residents get to go where they choose. Along with the fair trip, every month the employees and director take the residents to local restaurants that are decided by a counsel of residents or sometimes the director. The facilities are incredibly clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. When ever an issue is brought up, for example say my grandmother's room was too cold and no one had noticed her complaints that day, I asked why that was and they corrected the problem and held a training seminar on how to always ensure the comfort of the residents. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area who was in my family's situation.
