I have chosen Green Hills Center for my husband. It's everything from independent living, assisted living, and skilled care, and it has dementia units. They have individual apartments and condos. Right now, he's in long-term care. I knew when it was built, I was aware of it. I've known people that have gone there and people that lived there. And so, I've known about it for about 50 years now. They've done well with him and taken good care of him. I left the staff notes about my husband, what he likes and doesn't like, and things that are wrong. And they read all through those and discussed that with me. I felt that they did care about him as a person. Just simple things like he takes cream and sugar in his coffee, and that means that they want to treat him like he got treated at home. They do have an activity director and they have a lot of things going on and that was one thing I liked. He likes people, so when nothing is going on, they can still set him someplace where he can watch people moving in and out and doing things. The facility was extremely clean and very cozy. It has a fireplace and they have their Christmas trees up. I was just very impressed when we went in. They have adequate staff too, which a lot of places don't have. I compared the cost with several different facilities and this is just about the same as all the others. But I felt I got more for my money with this one than I did in some of the others that I looked at.

I went to Green Hills Center. It is a huge, huge complex. It has a swimming pool. It has a gymnasium, it has apartments, and I toured assisted living. The place was clean. It was air conditioned. I said, "Where is everyone?" And she said, "Oh, they're either in a Bible study group, or they're in the dining room where the lady was doing some kind of a craft or something with them." What I did not like about it was I would have to leave that building and go outside to get to another building where the swimming pool was. I would have to go out of that building and leave it and go farther away to go to the gymnasium. We went in, up in an elevator, and I think I saw a total of maybe ten people. Some of them were in the dining room doing the craft or whatever, and a couple of them were in the hall. The staff was very, very nice. They were excited about the place. I had to ask for something cold to drink; they did not offer.

The food is poor for what the elderly need. The Dr. and staff don’t listen to family members. If what you are saying doesn’t fit with what they have learned, they don’t listen to what you know about your family memeber. You must pay attention or the staff misses too much (pneumonia ). Too often it has taken a family member to bring issues to the staff vs the staff noticing the problem. The communication between shifts is awful, they don’t have a standardized system in place so items/ requests are guaranteed seen by the differing shifts . If you admit your family member, you must pay attention. Some of the staff try hard, but there is not sufficient staff for the patients. This issue, by what I understand is indicative of many facilities.

The facilities itself were very clean and well landscaped. They provided flowers along the walkways where the residents could walk or being visited in. When I called for a nurse they were usually there in under a minute or two and would act promptly in what was needed for my Grandmother. What I liked the most was the amount of activities and options that made the facility feel more like home. This included an area for movies that had a large screen projector, music room, a cafe with coffee and snacks, full salon, church, and swimming area for kids that visited. The facilities provided all meals and family could eat too for a low cost. The food was hit or miss, and usually bland and overcooked. But on some days it was really good. The overall feel of the place and willingness to help by the nurses and workers did make it a great place.

I was always relieved when I learned that a relative would be going to Green Hills for their final few weeks of life. I never felt that my relative would be unsafe or neglected. I always knew that when I walked into the building I would be greeted by warmth and kindness. I have had half a dozen relatives enjoy their last few weeks of life at Green Hills and they were never in any pain or discomfort. The staff went out of their way to make sure that they were comfortable and that they had all that they needed. Most recently my uncle spent his last few weeks of life there and being one of the youngest residents that they had ever admitted they treated him like he was the only person there and that he was not a burden. The staff made no assumptions that as family we would be leaving after scheduled visiting hours. They allowed us to stay and be with our loved one well into the night and early morning hours.

Green Hills is a trusted assisted living community that our family would recommend to anyone. It is located in a rural setting of a small town and the close-knit community feeling can be felt throughout the center. The facilities are clean and up to date, offering many different levels of care and assistance. The staff members are caring and professional and treat residence with the up most respect and concern. The facility provides well rounded meals made on-site. One of the most unique things about Green Hills is the many activities and events that are made available to the residence. Green Hills has their own Aquatic & Fitness center and aerobics and water aerobic classes are offered several times a week free of charge. Other activities include the option of bingo night, gardening clubs, reading circles, and crafting. Green Hills offers spiritual support for all residence and staff. They provide a network of local churches and pastors as well as an on staff chaplain. Overall it is an amazing assisted living community.
