I visited this facility

We toured Brookdale Troy. It was pretty good. It was very clean and very nice. It's just a little more updated, and newer. The staff was nice. He's excellent.

Brookdale Troy was very nice. I think they're very caring. It's close to where I live, so it would be convenient. I liked it a lot. Michael toured me around and he had a new employee that was shadowing him, her name's Gina, and they both did very well and explained things. They were very nice and very pleasant. Michael showed me a couple of available rooms. They had singles and studios and they were clean and decent-sized. The dining room looked adequate and clean. It seemed like they had a lot of things going on. Like activities and some things that they try to accommodate in each section of memory care. Michael was informative, very knowledgeable, and helpful.

I visited this facility

We visited Brookdale Troy, and it was nice and clean. We were there after lunchtime, so a lot of the residents were sleeping. There were some residents playing bingo. We met some people, and they were very friendly and very nice. Everybody seemed content and happy there. It seemed like they had a lot of activities. The rooms looked adequate. The studio apartment was very small, and I didn't care for that. But the 1-bedroom apartment was OK. One of them had a walk-in closet. It had a microwave, a refrigerator, and a sink in the kitchenette area. The staff who gave us the tour was very nice and very friendly. He didn't rush us. They had a nice outdoor space, like a courtyard, and then they also had a sunroom.

I visited this facility

I have visited Brookdale Troy, it was a small facility. They have a memory care unit, so if that was something that you thought you would need later on after assisted living, they have that. And that was nice because you could just transition. I love the units themselves, they were larger for assisted living because they go by three different upgrades. But even the smallest room was a really good size. It was a very nice facility and the people seemed great. The place felt more home-friendly and very comfortable and they had nice amenities like a sunroom.

I visited this facility

We toured Brookdale Troy assisted living. What I liked best about it was the individual attention that I saw residents were receiving. It's a smaller facility, about a 10th the size of the other ones we looked at. They have a maximum of 35 beds available, the layout of the complex was a single story, and it's in a circular fashion. One of the drawbacks of the other facilities for us was that they were just so large so it would be easy to get lost in them. We only spoke with one lady staff member and she answered every question we had, making sure we saw all of the areas. We were even allowed to go into rooms that were staged with furniture because most of it doesn't come with any furnishings. Quite a few residents had their doors open so you could look in and see how well they had it laid out. We got to speak with one of the residents there personally, she invited us into her little room and we chatted with her for a few minutes. She seemed very happy there. I saw a lot of interaction between the staff and residents in the dining hall. They were playing bingo when we were there, and understanding the needs of the residents, most of them are probably hard of hearing because the staff talk rather loudly so the residents can understand them. We saw one resident that was a little rambunctious or upset, and the staff handled it very well.

The memory care in Brookdale Troy was very clean and nice. The staff person offered me something to drink and she was very helpful. I couldn't say enough good things about her. She showed me some areas and told me about different activities that they do. They have those big brown bouncy balls, they do drumming, they grow plants, and they had a nursery with baby dolls where they could take care of babies if they wanted to. The rooms weren't that huge, but that's because they wanted them to do more things out of their room. The only thing was they had a wanderer, and so the door is locked from the outside, but they can get out from the inside. I understand that it's all about their safety, but they're behind a locked door, and it's harder for the staff to hear if they need something. My mom has dementia and she doesn't know how to push the button. I think they need to find an alternative for that.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband moved into Brookdale Troy. There were several things that made us choose Brookdale, part of it was the closeness to where we live. It was bright, it was clean, and it didn't smell. Everybody that I passed in the hall when I visited was just friendly as could be. I met the activities director, and she was impressive, she was just a ball of energy, and she had him engaged when we were sitting in the lobby. I really liked the staff, every nurse I met, the admissions lady, Carol, and Tina. They're all extraordinary. Carol is wonderful. Tina is the activities director. I have a calendar of activities in front of me, and it's literally all day long. It starts in the morning after breakfast, and there's something every hour until suppertime, and sometimes something after supper time, and tonight there is bingo after supper. They're making bread this afternoon, and the first day when we moved him in, we walked in and we kind of wanted to surprise him with seeing the room all done, but we couldn't figure out how to do it. We walked in and she said, "We're going on a bus trip. You want to go?" My son and I looked at each other and went, "Well, that problem just got solved," so we had time to get the room ready. So she is wonderful.

My dad likes it very much at Brookdale Troy. The people take really good care of him. My dad is very pleased. The facility is very nice. My dad furnished his own room, and he likes his private room. He participates in the activities at the facility. My dad is okay with the meals served to him.

We visited Brookdale. We were on the waiting list, so we were contacted to come in for a tour. My uncle was not ready to go, but he liked it. When we were there, we had lunch and looked at the rooms. The food was great, and the rooms were nice. Everything looked fine, as far as I could tell.

I am on the waiting list at Brookdale Troy. What I like about the place is that they have a lot of mental activities. They start in the morning. and they go all out through after supper. The staff was very good. I saw their rooms, and it was just like a typical unit.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother moved to Sterling House. We absolutely love everything about it. We love the people, the facility and the food. They have a lot of activities for the residents all day long. They have exercises, menu planning meetings, parties and a wide variety of things. My mother is happier since she moved there.

A nurse gave us a tour of Sterling House. They had an exercise program going on. The hallways were nice and had rails so that the residents can hold on to them. It was nicer looking, more upscale and it was newer.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

The staff were nice, seemingly hands off. The amenities were pretty pleniful. There is alot of space for people to walk and hang out. There is a tv room, parking areas, and a decent sized lawn. All of the hallways have rails, which I think is a necessity because some people need them to walk. There are lots of residents, but it does not seem crowded. One of the really nice things is that it appears they can deck out their rooms how ever they like. The rooms are long but not too narrow. I did not see many computers. Over all it seemed to be a decent facility. I think we would choose it again if we were presented with the choice. However what I will say is the meals do not taste as well as I would think a facility like this would serve. They were pretty bland, however filling.

I visited this facility

I was feeling unsure about the possibility of transferring my grandmother to an assisted living facility, but a tour of Sterling house really set my mind at ease. The space was not only clean but pleasant to look at- I would say elegant because of all the decorations. It looked much less like a hospital than I had imagined. Not only that, the residents seemed to be well-cared-for and awake and active. I know my grandmother might not be the easiest person to get along with, but the staff seemed to be handling the residents there with ease. I would say involvement was also important at this home, as I saw staff working with residents on a number of hobbies and pursuits, instead of just watching TV. I was overall very impressed with the facility and feel comfortable having my Grandmother live there.

The staff at this facility are wonderful to work with. They ensure that my grandmother is well taken care of, and it almost feels like she is part of their family, as these days she is more comfortable with the nurses there on a daily basis than her own family. The facility is constantly clean, with plenty of stuff for the residents and their guests to do. Our favorite is putting together puzzles, for childhood memories with our grandmother. They have a Wii to help residents with their coordination, and are constantly interactive with their residents.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I feel that the staff went up and above in helping my friend get adjusted. They would always be there for her when she needed them - without question. To be honest she was probably not always easy to deal with but they always treated her with respect. When I would visit I would always take notice of how happy the residents were. The dining facilities were very inviting. The chairs were better than what most people had in their homes. The facilities were very clean and tidy in all the common areas. The grounds were very well kept. I never noticed a mess of any kind which was very important to me because my friend had to, at times, use a walker. I knew she was safe at this facility which allowed me to have peace of mind in knowing she was safe and cared for. They also allowed her to have her puppy with her which I also thought was very accommodating.
