I know there are good people who work at Shane Hill, but under current management, no one should place their loved ones here. My mother was placed at Shane Hill after a fall at home (rehab for a broken femur). When transport brought her to Shane HIll, I was there, and I literally used the toe of my shoe to scrape food (hopefully) from the floor of her room and then ask for a broom. They put her in a dirty room. She arrived on a Monday and didn't start an antibiotic treatment for a disorienting urinary tract infection until Thursday - only after repeated requests from our family to get the culture results from the admitting ER. Mercer Health chose a 3-day course of antibiotics that did not clear up the infection and we had another run to the emergency room for disorientation. Our family requested care measures that were ignored MANY MANY times. Then we find out 5 days AFTER the incident that she had fallen out of bed. Our family had members visiting every day - frequently, multiple visits from multiple family members, daily. No one told us about the fall for 5 days. When we finally found out and requested x-rays to verify if the previous break had shifted or if there were any new fractures, the Nurse Practitioner ON CALL from Mercer Health refused to take a phone call from me - because it was Christmas Eve. Due to this negligence we had to wait until AFTER the Christmas holiday to get any care for my mother. Her fall at Shane Hill was the Saturday before Christmas. They withheld information from us until the Wednesday before Christmas. The social worker from Shane Hill LIED about the situation to us REPEATEDLY. The administrator is absent and obviously unaware of how poorly he is managing the facility. We were finally able to get care for my mother the Tuesday after Christmas at her previously-scheduled fallow up appointment with her orthopedic surgeon. And the staff at Shane Hill acted like that was sufficient care. At a patient care conference with the administrator, social worker, charge nurse there were 4 of my family present. Two of us from the Columbus area and one from Atlanta, GA. So obviously we were all very upset with the level of care to travel to make our voices heard in Rockford, OH. We asked to see where the fall was ever documented in her chart - it was not. They said there was disciplinary actions taken, but later we found out it was a traveling nurse that was on duty - she wasn't even their own employee that they "disciplined." The meeting was very unorganized with lots of finger pointing and blame shifting from the Shane Hill administration. We left more angered than when we arrived. This place is an absolute horror. The facility is showing real signs of wear and tear. The walls in my mothers room were severely damaged from equipment bangs and gouges. Her room's restroom was filthy. There was q-tip that laid on the floor during her entire stay. We purposefully left it there to document the lack of cleaning. Mercer Health care team is atrocious for our seniors living at Shane Hill. I could go on for so much more about all of our grievances with the care shown by this administrative staff at Shane Hill. I must say that there were aides that were working so hard to keep the residents happy and the physical therapy staff were great, too. It is hard not to not throw the baby out with the bath water in this situation. There are good people working there - trying to do their best. But they are not supported from the top and it truly shows in every way possible.

They treated mother very well at Laurels of Shane Hill. They are very caring and very responsive to her needs and in letting us know how they are taking care of her and how she’s doing. The rooms are very nice and spacious. It is not a brand new facility, but it’s always very nice and very clean. Her meals are very good. She goes to Bingo twice a week, they have cooking, and a guy comes in with a taped musical video and played lots of different songs

My husband moved from the hospital to Laurels of Shane Hill and only stayed 2 nights. I found that the room he was in was very dirty, bathroom was horrible, food was always cold, and care-givers were unprofessional. Needless to say, he was moved to a highly rated facility. I would not recommend Shane Hill to anyone.

Mom was in Laurels since May 27 since it's close to mom and dad. It's just perfect for mom right now. We're happy with the nurses.
