My tour at Altercare of Newark South was great. The person who took us on a tour met with us right after we went to their other building, and she was helpful. The facility was fine. I just wanted my dad to have his own separate room, but I don't think they do that. You could probably have a separate room, but the ones we were looking at were doubled up. I think for the amount of money that we have, I don't think we could afford to put him in a room by himself. They have a separate area to watch TV and a dining area where they can go down and sit around. You pay per day, it wasn't like a monthly fee. For a private in the long-term, it looks like you pay $229 a day, and $223 for the regular skilled nursing. They had a piano, a place you could sit out there and read. They have a bus that'll take them to the grocery store, they have food trucks that come out front. That's more of the assisted living facility and I like that a lot better than the nursing home. It was an ok location, it didn't look like they could get outside and do anything. They could be in the room, walk in the hallway or sit in the waiting area. It didn't seem like they had a lot going on to keep them busy.

Most staff were friendly, however the service was not satisfactory at all. Physical therapy didn't start until 48 hours after admission. There were no physical limitations for the delay. Patient remained in hospital gown entire 3rd day for no reason. Medications were left on patients tray, nurse did not stay around to make sure they were taken by patient. Family members were present and witnessed these activities. The smell of urine was very prevalent.

Newark Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center was alright. My stepmother was there for over two years, and we were pleased. It was nice and clean, and the nurses and aides seemed to be very caring. At the time when my stepmother was there, the food was very poor, but that was a year ago. She had a little three-room apartment. I visited again in early June.
