Glenn Park of Defiance

We've been to Glenn Park of Defiance a couple of times, and they offer a lot more square feet there for a little bit less money. That is why this is of interest to us. That is positive for people who have a lot of stuff in their house that they don't want to get rid of. The rooms were real nice, well kept, and it has everything you needed. They do all the food preparations, so you don't have to cook. You don't have to do maintenance either. Everything is clean. They have bingo, cards, and a monthly calendar of activities. They have something going on every day. When I walked in, the atmosphere was just pretty plain. We're not going to be involved with the outside too much anyway, but they do have a picnic pavilion so you can have family gatherings in the summer, which is nice. All the other buildings were very nice as well. They had bungalows and different kinds of living options, but I guess they're all filled. We're going to be at the very new part at the back, where they have their independent apartments, assisted living apartments, and where the dining area and everything is. The person who toured us was not perfect, but she was OK. She was a retired employee and just volunteered that day, so she can't say a whole lot about the place. The administrator deals with us, and she's a very nice lady. She's pretty busy, but she handles all your questions and anything very well. She's knowledgeable. She told us she wanted us to have a free meal, but then she had to go to some kind of family situation. She left me and my husband with the volunteer lady, but I've heard that the food is absolutely wonderful. They have people come in from the outside on certain days when it's open to the public. My sister ate there and said it's wonderful.

Rooms are kept clean. Staff is very attentive. I have been there at different times of the day and days of the week and the attention to the residents is consistent. The meals are wonderful; good variety. No place is perfect, but this one comes close.

We had my mother at Glenn Park. It was a beautiful facility. The aides were very good, but some of the nursing staff needed to be retrained. My mother’s room was beautiful, but their activities were minimal; they watched TV and painted. However, they did have a beautiful dining room with a menu that you could order off that was wonderful. What I like best about Glenn Park was the food. I never had any real interaction with staff unless I visited or if something happened and they had to call me.

They have independent living as well as assisted living. I think it's good because as my parents progress they will have options. The facility has a certain warm environment. It seems safe and the staff are caring about them. They provide the food and everything. So with Glenn Park, it's pretty much everything my parents are looking for. My parents apartment is good. It has 2 bedrooms and they like it.
