I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The food at Coventry House of Siler City has been terrible. They were very small portions. Sometimes it's not edible. You have to have snacks in your room because you're going to be hungry. Families cannot go into the dining room and I didn't understand why. I thought at first it would be distracting for the people, but they don't want you to see the food is why you can't go in the dining room. They don't have cleaning crews on the weekend, so if there's a mess made on a weekend, it will sit there until Monday, and I have taken pictures. My mom is physically incontinent, so there'll be feces on the floor, in the bathroom, and dirty diapers in the trash, and it would just sit there the entire weekend until the people come in on Monday when the cleaning crew comes back in. If the paper towels run out, they will not refill the paper towel dispenser until Monday before the people come back in. I talked to other residents' children when I bumped into them and I said, "How do you feel about the place?" And they explained the same things in their parents' rooms and everybody had the same complaints. The staff is not friendly. They don't smile. I took mom for a doctor's appointment in the hospital and the doctor, within the first 10 minutes said, "Your mom has to go to a psychiatric ward. I think she's suicidal." She was just very, very, very depressed in the second week she was there and that's when I decided that she couldn't stay there. There's nothing there that's positive for her. I was with Mom in the hospital for two days because there were so many people in the emergency rooms. I called Coventry House and I told them what's going on and where we are. No one ever said, "How's she doing?" There's no care or concern. When I called them on the way back on the second day, I said "Okay, we're in the parking lot. We're getting ready to come back." They said "Okay. She could be here for dinner or you could feed her on the way back." That was the only thing they said. There's no warmth at all. When she got back, an hour later, they called me that she had fallen in the bathroom and that she was okay, and she got a couple of bruises. It's just ridiculous. It's like every single day, there's just something there. I don't know how the fall happened because she forgot things, but the feces were everywhere in the bathroom when she fell that day. It was on the walls, everywhere. It was a Friday afternoon at six and so the cleaning crew had already gone home for the weekend. So that feces was on the walls and everywhere for the entire weekend. Every day I went in there and took pictures. The trash can was full of poopy diapers and I finally, on Sunday afternoon, asked one of the nurses "Can you please just put a paper bag on top of the trash can or something? This room just reeks." At that point, she came to empty the trash can, but that's all she did. Monday morning, the cleaning crew came back and they came in and cleaned the room up. They did a good job when they came in and did it, but her roommate had to live there for the whole weekend with that stench. It's a beautiful facility and it looks like it should be wonderful. It's a beautiful setting. The facility looks nice. The hallways are always kept clean. I have not witnessed anybody being physical with her. They're not beating people up or anything. The place generally is pleasant looking. There are a few friendly staff members. I think they are short-staffed, but at least half the staff is very cold and not friendly at all. I've never seen them smile. The residents do a few things, like bingo and some very basic crafts. They don't go outside. They don't do anything like going places or anything like that. The price is a good deal compared to other places, so I can see why they are cutting corners with the food and with the cleaning.

I visited this facility

Coventry Assisted Living was beautiful. Everybody was very nice and polite, but it was more expensive than I can afford. If I had to pay what they charge each month, I'd be flat broke all the time. The staff during the tour was so wonderful and sweet. It would be worth the money if you can afford that. It's a great place to go to.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I had my mom stayed at Coventry Place (Coventry Assisted Living). They took good care of her. She went there for respite care. They were really nice, and they had nice things to say about her. It was clean and appropriate. My mom didn't have any complaints. She said it was a nice place.

I visited this facility

At Coventry Assisted Living, they had nurses, nurse aides, and assistants. The place looked nice. The residents could come and go if they want because some of them were very much able to. The staff was very pleasant and informative. The hallways were wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs and walkers. Some of the rooms were private, and some were shared. The dining area was very clean, and the food smelled good. Everything at that place was neat and clean.
