I visited this facility

Brookdale Asheboro had animals, and that made the place feel like it was a home. Every person that went through there stopped and asked me if I'd been helped or not. They were all attentive and I believe that they have very good services there. They have good activities for the people. So, I liked it. The big thing with them would be the cost for me and they're a little bit farther away. I went to the memory care and they had another area where you could eat and mingle, watch TV, do crafts, and stuff like that. They had a facility for nursing care. The really bad ones are behind security, so they can't just walk out. I liked that. It was a very nice facility, it was very clean, and there was no odor. It was just very nice.

I visited this facility

I went to Brookdale Asheboro and spoke with the activity director. She was the one who gave me the tour. One thing that impressed me was that she said their activities are geared toward the interests of the residents. They have a woman in memory care who was a big runner in her past so they walk every day with her. There's also another resident who likes to join that woman. So, daily walks are something I know my mom would love, which I don't see everywhere, and I was impressed by that. The facility was clean. The people seemed caring and there was some longevity among the staff members. The rooms were nice. There was a courtyard and a space for doing some gardening. The dining room looked nice and clean and had tablecloths in it.

I visited this facility

I visited both the assisted living and memory care units at Brookdale Asheboro. The tour guides were extremely helpful. I was surprised at the smallness of the facility, which could be good or bad. They explained that they would be putting in more chairs per table in the dining room now that some of the COVID restrictions have been lifted. We were shown two different levels of rooms. Once we saw the second room, we thought, "Who would even consider the first one?" It was a very nice room. Some of the things were very nice, but other things looked a little cluttered. They had some carpet cleaners there, which is good to see. It's good to see that they keep it clean. It looked a little weather beaten. They showed me a weekly schedule of activities, and it looked OK. On the assisted living side, there were some people who were doing some sort of activity in one of the rooms. I met the executive director and the sales manager, who assisted us in going around. She was still learning the job, but they were both extremely helpful, and they answered any questions I had. They talked about medication schedules for people who need medication help. They talked about the price of the room. In addition to the basic price for room and board, there would be an additional monthly fee depending on the level of medical support. They were extremely helpful and very forthcoming, and they talked about the pros and cons of the rooms. They were doing a very good sales pitch. I was extremely impressed, and it felt very warm and open. I was a little disappointed in the food, however. Before my mother passed away, she lived in another facility, and it had a dining room that served breakfast between such and such a time, lunch between such and such a time, and dinner between such and such a time. With this one, if the residents don't come at eight o'clock for breakfast, noon for lunch, and five o'clock for dinner, they're out of luck. And they didn't have anything like an open cafeteria. I was very underwhelmed by the dining facility and what they seemed to offer. The tour guide told us that the residents get together and have input into the menu, and they showed us the sample menu. But it just seemed so restrictive. It just seemed like it was inadequate. The studio room seemed so sterile, and the double room -- the room that was a little apartment -- was two rooms. You could have a roommate and have two bedrooms. They said a lot of people make one into a sitting room and one into a bedroom. There's a tiny space that you can put a refrigerator. The bathroom was very nice. It was totally for a potential resident who might use a walker or a wheelchair. It had a nice handheld shower, a bench, and everything. It is what you'd expect to see in an assisted living place. The room was nice but not terribly large. I would also have liked to have seen some other activities, like bingo, crafts, and things like that, but I didn't see anything like that.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My loved one was left in the same dirty clothes for days. Mom has lost too much weight. She has been falling. Management is never available to answer my calls and will not call me back. Our bill is never correct, and is automatically drafted from my account. My Mom’s care cost doubled in one month with no explanation. We had high expectations by what we were told and the price we are paying. At one time this was a nice place but they have gone down hill, and seems to be understaffed on a regular basis. The last time we were allowed in the building the urine odor was so strong my eyes were burning and I felt sick. Mom complains about the odor every time we talk. She has had ants in her room for months and nothing has been done. We have been extremely disappointed and concerned for her wellbeing. We have made arrangements to relocate her due to the poor conditions. We hate to put her through another move but we can’t let her stay in this filthy place. It has been a nightmare!

I'm very satisfied with Brookdale Asheboro. My brother seems to be happy there. They have outings, recreational therapists, they have volunteers that come in to do events, they also go to movies. I haven't tried the food but my brother has been pleased with it. The staff is very professional. They have gardening facilities, a library, screened porches and patios.

My mom moved into Brookdale Asheboro. She needs more help than what she's able to get there. She's not getting as much physical therapy as I would like, which is my only regret so far. They help her out, watch her closely, and are available when she needs them. They seem to be very knowledgeable and experienced. They offer happy hour a couple times a week. My mom's room is more of an apartment with no kitchen in it.

Please don't be fooled by the executive staff at this facility. Their bottom line is profits. Our loved one was there for four days and after many assurances of good care, she was found lying on a floor after a half hour with a broken femur and only one sock on. She was taken to hospital and will now undergo painful rehab before being moved to a better facility. If you are a person of faith, please think long and hard before you place your loved one here. The only explanation we were given about our mother was that staff was short handed at time of incident and was unaware of her (our mother's) whereabouts.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Before my sister passed away, she stayed in Carolina House of Asheboro. The living environment of this place was good. They had lots of flowers planted outside. They had a place in the back where people can go out during the summer time. They can grow their own plants there and the staff would help them with that. It was pretty good. The staff was very nice and helpful. I liked the caring staff because they really cared about their residents. With regards to activities, they did have a bus that would take residents out. They would go out for breakfast or lunch sometimes. They would take them out to go shopping or go to Wal-Mart. Maybe once a year, they have a trip to the beach. Aside from these outings, they also have other activities. They would have yard sales. During the holiday, residents can participate in Christmas parades. If residents want to read some books, somebody from the library would come in with a cart of books for them. My sister's room was in a double occupancy. Sometimes there would be some friction between certain people, but they tried their best to work it out. Food wasn't that good; however, in my opinion, I don't see how you can make it any better especially in these types of places. Overall, it was a nice place for my sister. Of course, she would rather be at home at that time, but she was comfortable and happy there.

Not Right Place For AnyOne

One star is too much. Not one person spoke to me or a resident in over 2 hours- totally ignored! Aunt at lunch with no dentures in, hasn't been eating, bedclothes dirty at 2pm still, urine soaked linens kept in room until magic day for laundry time! No chair in her room just a bed. Disgusting and inhumane way to treat the aging. I wish I were her guardian so I could get her out of this.

I am a friend or relative of resident

I visit this community weekly to see several of their current residents. I'm welcomed with smiling faces, and open arms each and every time. The residents are happy, very well cared for, and most importantly treated with respect. I have been most impressed by the therapy services they offer. My friend has gone from being dependent on others to push her in a wheelchair to walking independently with this communities support and dedication. What a wonderful group of caregivers!

I was visiting a loved one and the care takers were more concerned with talking about there life and saying unpleasant things to residents, it was just so horrible, I realized this wasnt the place I wanted my loved one to be, It hard to trust someone with people you dont know, but to , and then see this behavor it was so disrespectful,
