My mother stayed at Valley Manor in Excelsior Springs. The caregivers were wonderful. We lucked out with them. They were very concerned with their residents. They did whatever they could to try and make them active as much as possible, which they really couldn't because it was locked down when my mom was there. They had positive cases in the building. A lot of the people needed to stay in their rooms, so that was more difficult for them, but they were wonderful. The food was good. The facility was older, it wasn't as bells and whistles as the others, but it was nice. Her room was comfortable and very spacious. The staff was very caring.

My father was at Valley Manor and Rehabilitation Center. The staff was very helpful. However, we had problems with the dietitians. The rooms were clean, and they had a lot of recent updates. My father was there for rehab. They had physical therapy, and that's part of what he was involved in, that and the home occupational type stuff as well. They had a great staff doing that. He was just very stubborn and didn't want to participate very much, but they were very good. They were really bad about following the diet that my father was supposed to be on. He was supposed to be on a very strict cardio diet watching the sodium, and if they didn't have something that he knew he could eat, they would bring him tomato soup and grilled cheese, which is very high in sodium. So we had a really hard time working with them on the low sodium diet. The rooms were very clean but there was not a lot of furnishings. There was a bed, a recliner, and a TV, and then that was it. Otherwise, the room was fine.
