My sister moved into Barathaven Memory Care. They use the Montessori Method and they're great with her. She's happy there, but she was not at home. They're on top of taking care of her healthwise. So far everything has been great. The staff is fantastic. We've had a couple of meetings that they made with us for her treatment, and how she is doing and getting along with everyone, and they think she's wonderful. We were over there before Christmas and had breakfast with her. That was really nice, and the food was good. Last Christmas they had a violin player, and everybody was singing and opening presents. It was great. They have a woman that comes in and does hair. She's not there all the time, but they do take them out because they've got a bus, and she's been out and on a couple of trips. They've got a lot of activities for them to keep them occupied, and going, and make them happy. You feel comfortable with her there. We popped in at different times and it's always clean, and people are happy. It's the most reasonable we found.

I visited Barathaven Memory Care. The place is up-to-date, very large, very clean, and spacious. The lady there was very friendly. They have a separate room where they would go to do activities. They had another little area that they could go to if they just wanted to kind of relax and not interact. They also have an area where they will meet if people come in like if they have kids who come in or different groups that come to do Christmas caroling or anything like that.

My husband will move into Barathaven Memory Care. It looks like it fits us best. I liked it because the whole place was limited to memory care patients. When you enter, you don't go through any more locked doors. You just open the front door, and then you're part of the community. The rooms were very nice and I liked it too because I wouldn't have to furnish a full room. You could bring in your own things, but they would supply a mattress, and it's not just such an overwhelming thing to quickly come up with a shopping trip. They seemed like they were very individualized with their patients and would make an attempt to put them in activities that would fit their needs more. I was pleased to see that there was a group of people there in the memory care that were dressed up and meeting together at a table to play a game with a supervisor. They were at a game of Uno, and they were having a fun time. The person that was showing me around referred to them as their party group or the ones that always signed up for the trips that they took. It was refreshing that there were some that my husband might be able to take part in. I also noticed that there were no long halls with nobody there. It didn't look institutional, but there would be a few chairs and a few doors down. I turned a corner and they had open doors so that the people could go out to the gardens around there. One of their patients was taking care of a garden, which was lovely. She came up and talked about how she had brought in the plants because of the coming frost. They enabled people to feel like they were part of a community. They told of one who liked to help where he could with maintenance. I think my husband would have a better chance of finding a connection there. They also had a nice rehab section.

Barathaven Memory Care is a great place for Mom. They are very caring, knowledgeable, and very involved with their residents. I'm very impressed. Mom has a very nice and very spacious room. They usually have daily activities with them. They have a TV room and a couple of activity rooms. Everyone's welcome at any time to gather and talk in the different rooms. Then there are a couple of sun rooms at the end of the hallways that are very pretty and comfortable. They've been very attentive. If there was any problem, they called me or if I asked them for something, they would just do whatever I asked them to do. They are very, very good and mom's happy there, too.

Barathaven Alzheimer's Special Care Center was a really good place. It looked really nice, clean, and wide open. They had weekly or monthly gatherings in the dining room. They had a nice courtyard to visit. Everything looked like it was going smoothly. When I was there, it was after lunch. So, people were just kind of sitting around and doing their own thing. The guy who toured me around was really good.

Barathaven Alzheimer's Special Care Center was one of the few places that would take my wife in. So, we chose to move her there. She's in memory care. It's clean and there's more room than where she was. They can walk all the way around inside in circles. The food seems to be good and they're all very pleasant to her and they like her. They have ice cream parties, people that come in and play music, and crafts. They were having a non-alcoholic happy hour when I was up there where they had a guy come in and then they had snacks and drinks with little umbrellas on them. This is the most expensive place that she's been, but she's getting a lot of care there.

Barathaven Alzheimer's Special Care Center seemed OK, but it was just smaller than the rest of the places, and the residents there seemed to need more care. I met a couple of the staff members and they seemed really nice. They were friendly and took me around everywhere I wanted to see. They had some nice open areas in the middle where my mom could have gone outside. They were also more expensive than the other places I looked at, but it was clean. It didn't have a bad smell. It was in a circular format. So, if she started wandering, it would have been hard for her to get lost, she would have been able to just keep going in the same direction and end up back in a room. It was nice.

I'm considering Barathaven Alzheimer's Special Care Center for dad. The lady that gave us the tour was very nice. The facility was very clean. She kind of went over a lot of different things that we didn't know about. It seemed like it might be a pretty good place for my dad. It's a nice facility. We looked at the menu, and the food was good. The chef met with us. The rooms were very nice.

Barathaven Alzheimer's Special Care Center ticks the most boxes as far as what I was looking for. It was a little above my price range, but some of the other things were lower. Their community fee is half of the community fee of another place, and it's also refundable, where the other is nonrefundable. They were friendly. I liked the layout of the facility because there were no dead ends. The residents could just walk around in a big circle; there was a big, spacious, welcoming hallway with places to sit. They had an interior patio with the covered place to sit, with fountains and a garden that was pleasant. There was no apparent highway noise even though it's located right next to a major highway. Sitting out on the patio, you could not detect any road noise there. I didn't see the food, but the menu looked appealing for my husband, and the services and activities. Mostly the help or healthcare aide to resident ratio was the lowest that I have encountered so far. It looked like they had the usual activities. They were watching television; it was right after lunch when I arrived. If they have good mobility, they promote walking inside or outside, and they would have an aide to help them if need be. I think they were painting some bird houses, doing different simple artistic things, and they were trying to grow flowers outside in a little flower bed. They have simple exercise games that they do. I only interacted with the marketing director.

My wife is now in Barathaven Alzheimer's Special Care Center. Our experience with them so far is fantastic; they're outstanding. It's a very uplifting community. What impressed me the most was how the residents there were not wandering around depressed, as you see in a lot of places. And they keep them busy. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and I highly recommend it. They do coloring, they have a huge courtyard that's secure and in the center of the facility. They walk, there's a group of residents who formed a little walking committee and they do it every day. They also have classes and they have demonstrations. Yesterday, I took my golden retriever there to visit my wife. The staff is outstanding and very professional. On the first day, which was a Friday, they had a McDonald's day. I'm also told that the food there is good but I haven't tasted it yet.

We chose Barathaven for my wife. The staff is excellent. The facility and the way it's laid out are pretty nice. I like that it's very open. Everything about it just kind of came together. The rooms are fine, but they encourage the patients to get out and mix with other people and do activities. It just seemed to be specialized or dedicated toward Alzheimer's patients. The staff is extremely friendly and patient-oriented.

The staff of Barathaven Alzheimer's Special Care Center were nice and informative. The place was very clean and presentable. When we visited there were lots of residents around doing a musical activity, and they also have aerobics to help the seniors move around. They had some good-sized rooms, and the private room we saw was done up to feel very homey. They also put some bios outside the doors so you know who is living there. You get a little background history and things like that.

Barathaven was a small community. There weren’t a lot of people in it, so it seemed homey. I was for dementia and Alzheimer’s patients, which my mother has. The people seemed very friendly. The rooms were very small and most were shared, so it was a very small living area becuase they don’t want the people to be stuck in their rooms. They want them out and about socializing. They didn’t have TVs in the rooms, which would be one thing that my mom would probably want.
