My mom is at The Lutheran Home. I'm not allowed to go in because of COVID, so I have not been able to actually go inside the facility, but she's very happy there. Everybody I talked to -- the social workers -- are absolutely amazing. My mom also said that she likes everybody there. She's had no complaints. She's in a studio apartment in assisted living. I know that they have independent living as well as skilled nursing, and it's all in that one campus. I know that they try to have activities going, but with COVID, everything has been a mess. They do have a big library that she's able to use. They have a little exercise equipment, and she uses the stair-stepping one. She's doing really well. She's ninety-four, but she's doing really well there. For the food, she said that sometimes it's not a balanced diet. They do give them vitamins to make sure they get all the nutrients that they need.

My Grandma has been a resident of Lutheran Home for the past 4 years. Her caretakers are compassionate even when she is not. The facilty is clean. Staff are friendly. Noone wants to go to a nursing home but I wouldn't want her anywhere but Lutheran Home.

I think that the Lutheran Home suffers from not having enough employees to meet the needs of the people in their care. My mother stayed at the home, off and on, for about a year. She had Alzheimer's & only stayed in their "Memory Care" unit for about a month as my father decided she would be happier at home. The last several months that my Mom was alive she was at the home. She was unable to care for herself at all by this point. They did not take her to the bathroom/change her diapers often enough & she got urinary tract infections. The 2nd time she got a UTI it was reported too late & the 1st round of antibiotics didn't work. She was on her 2nd round when she had to be taken to the hospital & had all kinds of medical problems that stemmed from the UTI. Rather than have her go on dialysis we decided as a family to let her pass away as she no longer had any quality of life. Compared to when The Lutheran Home first opened in Cape Girardeau, there are several nursing facilities available in the area. As a result, CNAs & nurses have more choices. I think that The Lutheran Home is suffering because it probably can't afford to hire & retain their best employees.

The Lutheran Home was a complete facility from independent living to memory care. I heard wonderful things when I visited. It was just a little farther from my house. It was also bigger than the other places that I visited. I stayed in the main visiting area and it was very clean.

The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, MO is an ideal place for those seeking a little extra help with the day to day but at the same time want to maintain their independence. I personally have a family member residing at the facility and each time I visit it is always an enjoyable experience. One particular Christmas Eve my family members residing there were unable to join the rest of the family due to an ilness at the last minute and we had to replan our entire Christmas holiday. The staff at The Lutheran Home were quick to accommodate my entire extended family joining them in one of their private dining rooms. Every staff member ensured that our family Christmas went off without a hitch! You won't find a better staff than you will at The Lutheran Home!
