It is a very good place. I find that the staff is caring and well trained. The facility is clean and well maintained. The food is well cooked, but there is not enough variety in it. They could definitely use a salad bar. The best part about living here is that everyone is a veteran and you have something in common with. The location is very nice. Grassy and wooded picnic areas surround the buildings. It is connected by bus line to the light rail so you have some independence to go to downtown Minneapolis or the Mall of America. They also run outings to Target and Walmart. There are big changes coming soon because they close to finishing a completely new building in the next few months. It will be larger and better. It will still take a couple of months for it to be finished. Look for occupancy around fall of 2012.

Adult Day Program at MN Veteran's Home RN and social worker on the staff. Many different activities going on every day, daily exercise group, field trips, entertainment, movies with popcorn (recliner chairs, too), breakfast and lunch with nice area to eat lunch outside on nice days. Multiple activities of shorter duration (for those with shorter attention spans). The director is visible and interacts with the participants. Beautiful grounds and really nice old building. They offer spa bath weekly. Participants wear a sort of GPS device so staff knows where they are at all times- good safety measure for those with dementia.

My trip the Minnesota veteran's home was mainly to visit my grandpa, who has been living there for close to 20 years. The staff was very nice and acceptable some of them were a tad grumpy, but I believe it is just because they wanted some peace from taking care of people. The facilities there were quite clean which is amazing to me because a different nursing home in St. Paul Minnesota was quite disgusting, so this made me happy and helped me realized my grandfather was in a good place.I found everything easy to find because there are signs everywhere leading to locations, and the staff also offers us visitors help. I also so a lot of people in the staff cleaning the hallways and bathrooms keeping a clean environment, so all in all I am quite happy with this experience and it also helps me really know I have somewhere to go too in the future.
