My wife stayed at Maplewood Care Center. It was nice. The people there were very nice and very caring. She received good care there while she was there. It was all nice and clean, and everything was fine. She ate in her room and the food was OK. She was mostly bedridden at the time she was there. They were very good to her.

My dad has moved into Maplewood Care Center. It looks tired and dated. The staff members are caring, but they are stretched pretty thin. It's obvious they're understaffed. In terms of activities, my dad hasn't been participating in any of that. I think they have some bingo, they play hangman, and there are some counseling groups. The food is awful. It's consistently cold when served. The proteins are overprocessed, the vegetables are overcooked, and the fruits are canned. It's unsatisfactory in my opinion. For them to improve, providing better food would be a great start, and having key members of staff available would be very helpful as well.

My husband moved into Maplewood Care Center. It's only been less than two weeks that he's been there, but they're very welcoming. There seemed to be adequate staff. The upkeep is good. He shares a room, but it's a very large room, so it makes sharing easier. They have a beautician who comes in once a week.

The care that Maplewood Care Center provides to my husband has been very good. The staff are good communicators with the family and they make a lot of attempts to try and understand or get to know the residents. The rooms are pretty small. It is clean, but not updated.

The building is old and ugly, no bright colors. The rooms are very dirty and you need to tell staff when to clean them. Always short staffed. Takes a 1/2 or more for a nurse to come. Very little activities for the residents to do. You need to stay on top of everything as they do not have a full staff and pull from a pool, where the part timers do not read about the patient and medications are given wrong. They always say I am the only one working. You have to always tell them what to do for your loved one. I would not even let my dog stay at the Maplewood care center.

HORRIBLE. Administrators, social work and nursing only care about money and not about the people they serve. putting people on the street, pressuring visiting family to to pay out of pocket instead of doing their jobs to find placement and resources to help very sick and disabled people who are in need. This place is trash. DO NOT PUT YOUR FAMILY THERE.

This place is horrible! It takes them a half hour to answer your call button. I had the diarrhea and couldn’t wait that long, ended up messing myself in bed and they leave you to sit in it. Now my tailbone is raw from the skin breaking down and it’s extremely painful. The rooms are old and depressing. I would give this place zero stars except there is one wonderful girl that works here named Jamie. She advocates for you and actually got me a bed made in this century. I think they are under-staffed as well. Not a fun place to be!

if you or a loved one in a hospital and you may have to tcu - we have had to face that issue more than once. This time we went maplewood care center. We found it to be be, safe, open, fully staffed, and a happy place. The nursing staff, the nursing aides, the physical therapy staff , the OT staff and all the supporting staff to competent to be happy and helpful and professional. When a social worker at a hospital askes where you should go for for a TCU- there is no better place than Maplewood Care Center. You will not regret it. The staff is kind helpful and caring . we have been there.

My father was transferred to this facility from a 3 month hospital stay. He was diagnosed with on set dementia. Which was NEW for him. He stayed in the room behind the front receptionist desk. When I came to visit, he was wondering the hallways and didn't know what was happening. When I approached the desk, the receptionist got irratated with my dad and yelled at him (not knowing I was his daughter). They couldn't find his clothes that we brought for him, he was wearing a gown with no socks on. And not a nurse in sight. This place is TERRIBLE. Maybe if they got all new staff it'll be a better place but if you don't have to send your loved ones here...PLEASE DONT

My friend was discharged from the hospital and was to be transferred to the transitional care unit on the first floor, when we got there no oned seemed to know what was going on, they ended up placing her on the third floor (long term care).. because there weren't any beds available on the first floor. a few days into being there she complained about being short of breath, I watched a nurse or pca or whoever does the vitals check her oxygen, the machine blinked 87%... he said it was an error and not to worry about it. We believed him, since he "knew what he was doing" long story short her concerns fell unto deaf ears and she called an ambulance for herself, she was diagnosed that same night at the hospital with pneumonia. i was there and a call light went unanswered for nearly 20 minutes for the bed next to hers.. it was rediculous, when I went and asked the nurse why no one had came in she responded with "isn't there someone in the hallways?".. I guess she was "busy" at the computer.

Absolutely find a different care center! DO NOT send a loved one here. My mother was hallucinating for over week. We begged for her medication to be changed EVERYDAY. We were told one thing and they did another. She was never bathed. Her room and the whole place was filthy. No one calls you back. When we had my mom readmitted to the hospital, they told the hospital that my mom didn't have the problems we were saying she did. Her sheets on her bed were never changed and they had holes all over them. They never changed her collar pads which were supposed to be washed and changed daily. She had an infection in her back. They never got her out of bed. They only have a doctor on staff a couple days a week but she never seemed to be there. They were supposed to run labs for her and never did. I can go on and on and she was only there for a week. We also saw other patients not being cared for.

*NO NO and NO!!!! Third Floor is horrendous! When I asked how long a light is typically left blinking when a resident needs help I was told five minutes. When I told them my mother's light had been on for fifteen I was told to go ask someone else to help. When I found a nurse who was doing paperwork to please help my mother she said "Hang on". WRONG ANSWER!!! And this is with the family standing there!!! What's going on when there is no advocate to beg someone to help? I was told they are understaffed. Then they should give back some of the money they are being payed to be adequately staffed!!! This place is horrible and an embarrassment to the community of Maplewood and the residents of this town who are spending there final days in this place. It breaks my heart to have to leave my mother here. Why is no agency overseeing the poor care that is happening here? Is it all about the mighty dollar and not the care that we give to our seniors? This place is is disgraceful!!!!

Maplewood Care Center, located just off of Highway 36 in Maplewood Minnesota, is best summed up as being an "Ok" place. You could definitely find a nicer place in both amenities and quality of staff but when money is an issue I think this is one of better places to be in the Twin Cities metro area. The location of the facility makes it very easy to reach. When on the facility grounds it's hard to remember how close you are to the highway. There are many trees and walking paths around the facility. Once inside you can see the facility is pretty well maintained. The furnishings aren't luxurious by any means but I think it does the job of making private rooms and public spaces look more inviting instead of looking just like a hospital wing. Some of the times I've been there they have had group events. Bingo was always a big draw and a favorite of my grandmother. I know for the holidays they had some local school choirs in to give concerts. I also know they organize off campus events for those who are in the physical condition to get out for the day.The staff can be hit or miss. There were many great staff members who seemed to really care about the residents. There were also a few who only seemed to be there for their paycheck and weren't very helpful. A lot of the aides seemed to be very young without much experience. All in all it's an ok place and I would tentatively recommend it.

Maplewood Care Center was my mother's home for the last 4½ years of her life. We found the staff to be typically very caring, although we did have some issues with some of the nursing staff. We didn't always feel that the nurses were as attentive as they could be. Ironically, the lowest level employees aides, janitors and the like, were the best at providing support and comfort to our mom. The facility itself was certainly adequate, with spacious rooms and common areas. The activities staff worked very hard to keep Mom entertained, and she always said that the food was good.

My Father lived at Maplewood Care for the last few months of his life and was treated by the staff with amazing love and compassion. Staff also treated us as family great! My Mother has now lived there since 2001, due to memory loss. She is now in her end stages of Alzheimer's disease and I can't imagine finding a better community for her. The staff have been incredible; befriending her over the years. Her experinece and ours as a family has been ideal. Kudos Maplewood Care! If you want to see one of my favorite stories on how Maplewood Care treats it's residents go to my blog www.AlzheimersspeaksBlog.com and search for the story "Spa Day" at the VOA.
