I was at Maple Hill Senior Living for a couple of years. It seemed like we go a lot on a bus whether we go out to eat or go down to Bloomington for a play or music. They weren't afraid to go places. However, there seemed to be a lot of turnovers there with the nurses. And their food was not any better than where I am now. They had a new chef about every other week. They had an activity director, and you could not find a better activity director than him anywhere. My room was long and narrow. It was like a Holiday Inn place.

Maple Hill Senior Living used to be a hotel, and you can feel that when you walk in. They were very nice there. The apartment was just a studio. It was pretty standard, and it did not have a sink. That's one thing I didn't like, that it didn't have a sink in it. It had that hotel feel versus a smaller community feel. The person that showed us around was very nice and very helpful. He was very good. It's a big facility because it was a hotel, so it didn't seem as homey as the other place.

I toured Maple Hill Senior Living. The general appearance was okay. They have calendars of activities available and things like that. As far as layout and stuff, it's not as great as I thought it would be.

The thing we didn't like about Maple Hill Senior Living was that it was right in the back part of the parking lot of the Maplewood Mall, which I don't think is a good location for older people. The building itself looked nice. There was a nice common area for everybody. It used to be a hotel, so the little apartments were little hotel rooms. All you could have is a bed, a small refrigerator, and maybe one stovetop-type thing. It was extremely small. They had a little courtyard in the middle. Outside the front of the building, there were some benches. The location just didn't feel safe to me. I wouldn't feel comfortable having my father-in-law living there. The tour was very nice. The lady was very nice. All the people who lived there were openly chatting with her. She was talking to everybody, so it seemed like she got along well with the people there. The dining room was very nice.

The apartment at Maple Hill Senior Living was cute, but it only had a bathroom sink in there. My father wouldn't have another sink in the kitchen dinette area, so I didn't like that. Its location was good. It was right by all his appointments, and his doctors, and close to me, too. I had an appointment, but the person wasn't there, so then somebody else had to show me. She said she usually doesn't do the showing. It was fine, but if I needed to investigate more, I'd have to go back and see it and talk to someone who knew more about it. They weren't expecting us. We had the appointment, but they acted like we didn't have one because they didn't have it written down. It seemed like they had everything. They had the salon and the usual stuff. They had events and they had three meals a day, so that was good. They had a nice yard for you to go out in. The facility looked nice. It's near restaurants, a hospital, clinics, and it's right by the mall, so you got everything.

The tour I had at Maple Hill Senior Living was fine. The man was very nice. He was not the usual person who gives the tour, but he was a nice gentleman. The apartment was in good condition. There was one main room with a little kitchenette on one corner. It had a small bathroom with a shower and a closet. They had a laundry room, a library, and a staff room. There were two stories in the assisted living wing. There was a nice enclosed area outside for people, and then they had another area for people who smoke. The gentleman also showed me a private dining area. If you want to bring a meal for a resident, you can have private dining available to you in a special room. He showed me where the post boxes were. He also showed me the lounge in the front entry with a TV. There was just one thing I noticed. When you drove in, the driveway was in horrible shape. Then were architectural details that were crumbling. It was like that colored cement and detail blocks that were breaking up and kind of crumbling on the outside. The inside was nice, though. I noticed that the front area had nice high ceilings. So for that, I would give a 3 rating for the outside. I would give a 4 rating for the inside.

Maple Hill Senior Living had openings right away and so we chose to have mom there and it seemed like the right place for her at this point. We just noticed that they're short-staffed and so she's not getting all of her services. It's probably due to bad weather, the holidays, and maybe illnesses. Other than that, everybody has been very kind and welcoming. They seem to have everything that she will need. They normally have a lot of activities. Unfortunately, some of them were canceled, but they have bingo, parties (they had a holiday party last week) and they also have transportation for shopping and other events that are happening (I am still optimistic about that because they have a lot to offer). The facility is a nicely decorated building. The dining room is very nice. They have limited food options though.

I had an in-person tour of Mapple Hill Senior Living. I liked that it was current, up-to-date, and clean. The staff was very professional. She did a great job. She was nice and explained everything. I had a pleasant time with her. They had patios.

Maple Hill Senior Living was dirty and the rooms were dark. I didn't speak with any staff. I did it unannounced. I saw no activities. The dining area was fine, but the facility needed work and really good cleaning. I didn't see anybody doing anything. I wasn't impressed.

My dad has been living in memory care at Maple Hill. It's a well kept up place. We were having trouble with the medication there for a while, but now they've straightened that out. There's a turnover of staff, but everywhere you go there's turnover. The ones that are there now are friendly though. The room is like a motel room with a little refrigerator and a counter. The food seems really good. The dining area is set up like a restaurant. They have a library, salon, and fantastic activities like volleyball, bowling, Wii bowling, exercises, singing, and they bat a beachball around. They also read to them.

Maple Hill Senior Living was very nice and clean, and the rooms were nice but a little small. The staff was good and their dining setup was nice. It had a nice library, lobby area, and outside space.
