My mother was a resident of York Gardens for nine years. She loved it there. The staff was fantastic. On June 19th she passed away after 97 years of life. Her years at York Gardens were a very wonderful part of her life. After my mother passed away, we had a minor problem with York Gardens. However, this problem was rectified beyond my expectations. If you are considering an assisted living place for your loved ones, I highly recommend York Gardens in Edina.

I wasn't impressed with York Gardens probably because we're looking for something more than what they had to offer. They don't have a pool, and they don't have walking indoor walking areas. They have a very small exercise area, but I wasn't impressed with their security. The price is also way up there for what I thought we should be giving. They do have a courtyard for memory care, but that was it. The staff who assisted me was very nice. You rent an apartment there, and then on top of that, you pay for the food. They just don't have the amenities.

I visited York Gardens, and they have fantastic safety issues to make sure the residents are safe and have their freedom. That was my primary concern, and they have lots of activities. They have exercises, a men's group that goes fishing, and goes to baseball games, and they have three meals a day. The staff member was very cheerful, very caring toward the residents, and was very impressed.

I thought York Gardens was very impressive. They were very clear and honest in describing what they could and could not do for my parents, which I really appreciated. We did not eat there, but it looked like a very nice, well-appointed facility. The whole building was very nice and top notch.

York Gardens has a feeling of comfort and newness that doesn't spawn from its recent creation but rather from the attitudes of the staff and the patients. The staff never seems to lose focus even with the considerable amount of illnesses they encounter on a daily basis. This well maintained attention to their wards has yet to show any detrimental affect upon their cheerfulness as well as their helpfulness when asked questions that could very well fall under the "dumb question" heading. The sunlight is invited into the patients' rooms rather than blocked out and with the shared public space between York Gardens and York Cooperative; clients can watch outdoor events as well as visiting grandchildren and great-grandchildren play. My uncle's Alzheimer's disease progression limits him to the rarest of excursions so this window on the outside world helps him maintain an important visual attachment with the outside world. No one wishes to end up needing help to continue with daily life, but York Gardens does not make any regret asking for it.
