My husband lived at New Perspective | Columbia Heights for three months. It was very nice and very clean. It's quite a bit larger than where he is now. They have very nice staff and people. And there wasn't an issue until somebody noticed and thought he was trying to get outside, which he wasn't. And the next thing, they stuck him in memory care, and it was like a psycho ward. We got him out of there. Then he came to Florida and stayed with me for four months, and I couldn't take care of him anymore. The New Perspective rooms were nice. The food was nice. He ate in the dining room with lots of people and interacted. He did play some games. He was happy. But then things changed quickly.

Mom was recently at New Perspective | Columbia Heights. The people, the staff were very nice. They're very available. You can call and talk to somebody anytime. They'll always go check on them. So, that's a real plus. They're always ready to help. If I asked, "Have you seen my mom today?" They knew. They were aware of their residents. It was just a little more expensive. The food wasn't fabulous but it was good and there was a lot of it. The memory care center was a small area though to be locked down in, but there was a nice outside area. It's hard to say because it was under construction half the time too. So they're remodeling. They have a dining area (they have different dining areas for memory care and assisted living) and a couple of courtyards. They have some activities. Mom just didn't go to them because she went in there on hospice and half the time, she was there and just lay there.

So far, the staff at New Perspective Columbia Heights is very nice. Gabby and Stormi are very helpful, very easy to get along with, and very friendly. The place looks very welcoming and homey and I think my mom is getting used to it. Her one-bedroom apartment is a bigger size. It's nice and it's roomy for her. I had to call the nurse one time and he got back to me pretty quickly with the response. So, it's been pretty good.

I recommend New Perspective Columbia Heights. They have a lot of services available for assisted living. You have a choice of apartments like a suite, a studio, or one-bedroom or more, but I don't remember any other amenities. It seemed to be a well-kept place. The suites have like a kitchen area, but there's no wall. The studios have a wall, but the kitchen is not separate. Then, the one-bedrooms have a separate kitchenette. The person who gave me the tour, her name was Jenna, and she was very accommodating. She came and dropped into my apartment where I'm living now for a visit and brought me a cup of strong black coffee from Starbucks. I had mentioned that I like my coffee strong and black; I thought she was a very gracious person.

We went to see the memory care at New Perspective in Columbia Heights because I'm pretty sure that's where my mom's going to end up. The tour was very good and informative. It's a very nice place. They looked very engaged with their people, and it was nice to see. They communicated with them one-on-one and answered their questions. Especially the staff member that I was with, she was busy, but as we walked by, she engaged with the residents, and that was good. They have assisted living there too, and the memory care people can come out and enjoy their activities there too. It's a more open and lively area, which is good. They have a large screened-in porch, and they have an outside area on the ground level for memory care. It looked very open, very clean, and everybody was very friendly. Memory care has its own personal shower, which is nice. You don't have to go down the hall for it. The room service was adequate for a full-size or twin-size bed and dresser, small table, and that kind of thing. It should work out just fine.

New Perspective Columbia Heights is adequate, I guess. My mom's struggling because of COVID and they've locked them all down, so she doesn't get to socialize very much, but that would be probably true in every long-term care facility. Some of the staff members she likes, but there's a few that she doesn't like. She's comfortable in her room, and they keep it pretty clean. They didn't have a chef for a couple of weeks, and then the food was really bad she thought, but it started to improve.

My mom has moved into New Perspective Columbia Heights a couple of weeks back. However, they have been on lockdown since the first week she was there, so we haven't been able to interact with the community at all. We chose it mostly because of the personality of the sales director and their willingness to help trying to make it not cost prohibitive for her to go there. We used them for respite a couple of years beforehand, so it is known to her. They have activities for the residents, too.

Lighthouse of Columbia Heights is really good. It was just as beautiful as the other communities, but Lighthouse of Columbia Heights didn't have the outdoor amenities that either one has. Nevertheless, everybody was lovely; it was just the convenience of the location. It was fine in all other aspects.

We really liked Lighthouse of Columbia Heights. It was elegant. They appeared to have a lot of activities. Staffing was beyond sufficient. The only thing that was probably a negative for me was the different sizes of rooms. The companion rooms were not exactly to our liking. The dining area was very nice.

We visited a friend who lives at Lighthouse of Columbia Heights. The rooms were smaller and the staff was quite comparable. They have a lot of things going on; you can have a little garden outside. We were there for lunch, and the food was good, very well-served and the dining room was very nice.
