My husband lived at The Lighted Oak for nearly two years. The Lighted Oak felt like a home and that was important to me when looking for a place for him. The private room was spacious with lots of windows and closet space. There was a nice variety of meals prepared for the house, with a daily menu provided, along with an activity schedule. A fun little perk is the wildlife (deer, turkeys) that are fun to watch. Communication with the house staff is easy, and the aides and nurses do a decent job with basic medical needs, medications, etc. The location is convenient, also, for taking my husband out for quick trips to the MOA nature preserve or walks around the neighborhood.

My brother has lived at Lighted Oak for 2 years and has maintained his quality of life and gotten stronger. I have been so grateful for the top-notch care he's received throughout. Staff have always been in great communication. They've also been proactive and flexible. The physical therapy program has been key to keeping my brother strong and mobile despite his chronic mental illness and traumatic brain injury. They also believe in a team approach, which has helped my brother immensely. The house is light, bright, and spacious with a great, homey feeling. All the staff are super caring.

My father was at The Geneva Suites - Lighted Oak. They have 24-hour residential care and they only have six bedrooms in the whole facility. It was not a very nice place. The bathroom was across the hall and it's a public restroom; that bothered him a lot. He was given two incorrect medications that were for a different resident living there. That happened on a Sunday, and we didn't find out until Wednesday, and I'm still upset about it. The owner never called me back regarding that incident. They also did not help him with his physical therapy. He has memory issues, and we were told that they had highly trained professionals that knew how to deal with Alzheimers. We were told they would be there when the PT was there and they would do the exercises with him, and those things did not happen. He never did his exercises unless the PT came and nobody was there to watch them. Every time I called he was in his room alone. They did not take him out to the dining room. He never did any activities there.
