We chose Cherrywood of Big Lake for my mother-in-law. It's a nice area, residential. The staff is real friendly, and helpful. She is eating more, and she said the food is good. It's nicely kept up, clean, and has no foul smells, or anything. Her room is very nice. She enjoys the activities. They keep her active and up. It's a very secure area. They do go outside, as a group, or with assistance. They have a haircut and a barbershop. They allow refrigerators in their rooms. She's got a landline phone I guess, she just got in, and it's a nice place.

I toured Cherrywood of Big Lake. I liked everything about it except the staff said that I'd be a perfect fit, we'd have no problem and I'd get in. And then finally, when she was done with her two weeks of paper checks, she said that I would need a level of care more than they had right now because they were missing a staff member. There was a beautiful park area in the back of the building to sit and visit with people. It was beautiful with trees and birds and it was great. There was a small stream that looked very nice. The rooms were large, and you had your own bathroom in your room.

We went to Cherrywood of Big Lake. I didn't care for it. It would probably be good for memory care. They do people like my mother-in-law who have full facilities and they do memory care and they're mixed in together, and so she would have been locked in, and I didn't care for that because she's able to go out and go for walks and stuff, and she was only allowed to do that with staff, and I didn't care for that. She's probably 91, she's very mobile and very active. It was a nice place, it was clean, and I liked that, but it was just not for her. For memory care, it would be awesome. The rooms were nice. They weren't really big, but they were adequate. The clients have their own room. There was no kitchenette, but my mother-in-law wants a kitchenette, and so nothing like that. There was ample storage; there was a nice closet in each room. It wasn't really big. It was kind of on a smaller side, which is what I liked when I saw the ad. But it was just not what we're looking for. The staff who showed me around was awesome. She was very helpful. She answered questions, and she was very knowledgeable. I liked her.

Our visit to Cherrywood went very well. I am very happy with it. It's a small facility, and we're very happy with the layout. The staff was excellent, very helpful, and great. Twice a day, there's exercise and an afternoon activity. It's a small home-like setting, which we liked.
