My brother has progressed from living with our sister, to memory care in an assisted living community, to Brookdale Utica Memory Care. Every resident here is in need of memory care. The staff is highly trained and most of them have been caregivers here for years! When staff continues employment in one place you can be assured that the atmosphere is like a family. I call the staff my Brookdale family. In 9 months I have never heard, "That's not my job" or "We can't do that here." The staff listens, then tries my suggestions and I have learned so much from them! The rooms are welcoming. My brother does not feel more comfortable ANYWHERE than when tucked into his bed. He is in small groups movie watching, listening to music, enjoying holiday and birthday celebrations, playing trivia games and bingo, and a little competition in active games. The building is set up into 4 hallways of rooms, 2 dining rooms, 2 large living rooms, and has 3 inner courtyards to enjoy fresh air. A beauty salon can be accessed weekly. Believe that Brookdale Utica is the best for our family members with memory problems. He or she will be lovingly cared for, hugged, and promptly attended to when the help cord is pulled! The staff has gotten to know my brother by interacting with him in a genuine and respectful way. Our brother and his family could not be more satisfied with his care at Brookdale Utica!

My mother was at Brookdale Utica for just over one year before she passed away on August 12th. I couldn’t be happier with the level of care that she received. The staff is absolutely amazing and they treated my mom like she was their own family. I am so grateful that the last year of my mom’s life was a happy one. My heart is broken, but I will be forever grateful to Brookdale Utica and all of the wonderful people who helped us through one of the most difficult times in our life. It is truly a special place with very special people.

The staff is amazing and caring- there is very little turnover in staff which is so important for a memory care facility.

Having a family member with dementia is a difficult experience. You worry about putting your loved one in a facility because they are vulnerable and cannot tell if a need is not being met. Our experience with Brookdale was amazing. The staff was caring of my loved one. Her physical needs were always met. More importantly she was treated with dignity and respect. The staff are incredibly kind. What is impressive is how the facility has such low turnover. Your loved one will be greeted by the same kind and loving smiles day after day. That consistency is so important for your loved one. Residents feel like a part of a beautiful family. The facility is very homey. The food is wonderful and looks like home cooking. You will find pictures everywhere of crafts and activities the residents participate in that makes your loved ones stay rich with experience. You cannot go wrong with putting your loved one at Brookdale. I truly felt it was a home away from home for my mother.

My father was at Brookdale of Utica MC for one week shy of two full years. He passed away on March 8th. I just can't tell you how grateful my family and I were to have the most compassionate people who took care of my Dad for these past two years when we could not anymore. The most amazing part was when we were still with my Dad after he passed, waiting for the funeral home to come, all of the staff came in to see him and kissed him, told him they would miss him, and had tears in their eyes. I knew that they cared about him, but the love they showed to him and our family after he passed was just incredible. If you must make the worst decision of your life to have to put a family member in a memory care facility, look no further than Brookdale of Utica. Thank you to all of you!!

From the time my mother became a resident, I got the feeling that she and we (the family) became a part of their family. They showed so much love and genuine care for my mother. The facility was very clean and they always seemed to meet the needs of each and every resident and family.

The women that work there work very hard. They are like a family, and a good many of them have been there for years. They keep my mother fed, and clean, and they do extra things that many would not. They also let me know when something is not right with my mom, so I can take care of it. These woman do above and beyond what they get paid to do, and that is very hard to find in a facility like this. The rooms are kept clean, and the 6 years my mom has been there I have gotten to know alot of them on a closer level. I trust them, and that counts for great peace of mind.

At Brookdale Utica, my mom was cared for in a very kind and loving manner. The staff worked closely with her Hospice caregivers to make the adjustments needed to help mom get comfortably through her final weeks. We transferred my mom here from another memory care facility, and the improvement in care and attention to her needs was remarkable. This place is worth every penny. Thank you Brookdale, for all you did for my mom, and me.

My mom is safe, happy and very well cared for. She enjoys the craft activities and ice cream afternoons! Everyone has been so wonderful during this very difficult time. We feel like part of the family and are so blessed to have found Brookdale Utica.

It was with with a great deal of stress that I handed over my wife to Brookdale. They did everything they could to make the transition as smooth as possible. After careful review I chose Brookdale because of the experience and attitude of the staff and management. They have not disappointed me in any way and have welcomed my wife like she is family. I don't know that I can ask anymore from them during this difficult time They truly care !!

My Father has been in this facility since March. We had no idea what to expect. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They are always willing to help and on top of everything. Claudia is a wonderful nurse and knows just how the family’s feel about there loved ones. The rooms are big, but there always busy doing other stuff and not in them much unless they want to be. Most all interact with each other, playing cards, singing, planting flowers, etc. The food looks delicious. I would highly recommend this place for your loved one

My recently deceased dad was in Brookdale - Utica's memory care unit for about the last two months of his life, the last month or so in hospice care. I can't speak highly enough of the care he received, as well as the truly caring and understanding staff. Whenever I visited, Dad's room was always immaculately clean and organized; the staff friendly, caring, and always available to lend needed aid or answer questions. My choice of Brookdale - Utica came down to the people I encountered from Jacob in Admissions to Claudia the Head Nurse and the wonderful aides who saw to Dad's many needs. Another factor was I found the facility not too big nor not too small -- it was just right! I was so relieved to know that I made the right choice - five stars all around - highly recommended!

My mom has been in the memory care unit for one year. I am pleased with my decision to place my mother at Brookdale Senior Living in Utica, MI. The staff is extremely supportive, attentive, and caring not only for my mother but for my family also. Flori, Claudia and Denise are wonderful to deal with. They have made good suggestions that have helped me find more support for my mother as she applies for financial assistance. They have our back. The facility is very clean. It is well maintained all the time. I remember seeing all of the mattresses being replaced with new ones. They have remodeled one of the facilities on the campus. The staff has many activities for the residents. They celebrate every holiday and have a birthday party every month. They get my mother involved in activities; it is the first time in my 67 years I have seen my mother paint a picture.

My Mom has been a resident of Brookdale Utica Memory Care for 6 months. Her room is very nice and she has many of her own things decorating her room so it feels more like home. She responds really well to all the staff and is very happy. I am also pleased with my interactions with staff members. She is always encouraged to attend the activities and this makes me very happy. I really appreciate the peace of mind I have knowing that my Mom is safe, healthy, happy, and well cared for. Brookdale was an excellent choice.

My Mother was a resident at the Brookdale Community for the last seven months and just loved it. She just turned 96 in January and after her birthday she passed , The staff treated her like one of there own and she loved them all and they also loved her. The management staff and caretakers work as one unit and they took care of all my mother needs and interaction was daily. My mom's room was kept spotless and she loved the meals. The staff would sing daily with my mom and others and she loved it. If any one is considering memory care for there loved ones I would consider Brookdale first.

We placed our beloved mom Charlotte in Brookdale Memory Care in Utica, MI on Valentine's Day, 2020. She was two months short of 97 and healing from a broken collar bone. Choosing Brookdale was THE BEST DECISION OUR FAMILY MADE FOR OUR PRECIOUS MOTHER. The rooms were always clean and well-maintained, the food was excellent - as our mom was thriving - but most importantly, the staff treated Charlotte like she was their own mother/grandmother. We visited at least four to five times a week - at different times - on different days - and we were always pleasantly surprised to see that our mom was so well cared for. She lived an additional twenty months - because of the excellent care she received from Brookdale. At the end, as she became more weak, they made sure she ate - they hand fed her - and they always made her look beautiful - dressing her up, fixing her hair, putting on her jewelry - and this was extremely important to Charlotte. We would highly recommend Brookdale- to people who realize that THE STAFF is the most important component in senior care. Anyone looking for an outstanding, phenomenal staff - people who are competent, compassionate, and energetic- should consider this facility. Our beloved mom passed away one month ago - after spending twenty months at Brookdale Memory Care in Utica, MI - and we know she had these extra twenty months - BECAUSE OF THE CARING SHE RECEIVED 24/7 THROUGHOUT HER TIME THERE.

My mother received excellent, loving care from the staff at Brookdale’s Memory Care Facility. Because of Covid 19 I was unable to visit but the activities director was great about getting me time with her on FaceTime. All of my mothers needs were met to the satisfaction of myself and my sisters.

Our Dad was at Brookdale Utica Memory Care for 2 years. During that time, his caretakers and entire staff not only treated him with respect, but also like family. Everyone was always friendly with Dad and all of us during our visits. The staff was very accommodating for any requests we had to help make Dad comfortable. We would highly recommend Brookdale Utica to anyone seeking a family oriented facility.

My dad was in the Memory Care unit. He received excellent personal care. They responded quickly when he needed assistance. He was allowed to sit outside when he wanted to and take in the sunshine. His room was comfortable and the whole facility was warm and welcoming. (It has recently been renovated.). His main caregiver treated him like he was a member of her own family. Throughout the Covid restrictions we felt comfortable that dad was getting good care. And Brookdale was able to set up outdoor visits during the indoor restrictions. That meant the world to us family members!

To say that I recommend Brookdale Clare Bridge Utica is an understatement! My mom has been residing at Brookdale Utica 2 1/2 years. She stayed in the Assisted Living building for 1 year, where her care was excellent and she was encouraged to take part in a lot of fun activities. For the last year and a half she's been in the Memory care building. Having to have mom in memory care is a difficult decision, but the wonderful staff has made this an easy transition. She is in a shared room and it has been a pleasant experience. Mom has her own personal things around her and that helps her to feel right at home. Caregivers treat each residents as if they were their own parent. Each caregiver that I see with mom is so caring and uplifting. They are constantly checking in on mom and making sure that all her needs are met. It's easy to see how much love and respect they give to each of the residents. During this time of Covid the staff has gone above and beyond to keep resident comfortable and to do everything to keep the families connected (FaceTime) to their love ones. When we researched a place for mom we had many options, I'm so glad we chose Brookdale Utica. The staff has done everything in their power to confirm that moving mom into Brookdale was the right decision, making a hard season of life easier and with so much care and respect. I know we made the right decision

Brookdale Utica was fairly new and well staffed, but it had a nursing home concept. I didn't see a lot of young vibrant seniors there. They had a Christmas sing-along when I was there and they had people eating lunch. It was very well run. The staff answered all my questions and the tour was great. It just didn't seem like a good fit for us.

My mom is currently at Clare Bridge of Utica. The staff is good, helpful, and very accommodating, especially when my mom moved in. The place is very clean, too. My mom is now sharing a room with another person. I like that each of them has their own bed, dresser, and closet. They share a nice, large bathroom, too. She has help from the staff when using restroom facilities. What concerns me is that they don't have many activities for the residents. Overall, everything in the place is adequate.

I visited Clare Bridge of Utica, and it is a nice community. The staff are nice. Me and my parents had lunch there, and the food is good. When I was there, they were doing kickball, and so I did see that. They told me that the day before, the Tiger's game had been on and a group of them had been watching.

I didn't like that Clare Bridge had separate buildings. They expected people to go back and forth between the two buildings for some activities. To me, going across the parking lot was dangerous. Once they showed me how it was setup between the two places, I just wasn't impressed. Maybe I just tuned them out or I wasn't impressed. This isn't the place I want to be. It doesn't matter what the floor plan is, it's not right. They needed to be together, like one building for the whole thing instead of two. I don't want a parking lot between them. But the staff was really nice.
Provider Response
We appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns. It sounds like you were given a tour of both our memory care community and our assisted living community which are located very close to each other. Both are completely self-contained and residents do not go back and forth between the communities. Please be assured that the safety and well-being of our residents is our first priority and we share their concerns as well as the concerns of their families. We’re delighted that you thought our staff was really nice and hope you will call us to discuss your concerns in greater detail.
