Mom's staying at The Village at Bay Ridge on a monthly basis and she's getting accustomed to it. We like the food and we really like the facility. It's very clean. They're very good about taking care of her, waking her up at a certain time and making her walk, she does therapy, and they do her medications. The staff is very good, very attentive to her needs, very kind, and thorough. I'm very happy with the staff and the services. She's not ignored and she's well taken care of. Cost-wise they're a little on the high side, but as far as services, the convenience of being on one floor, being attentive to everybody, having pet dogs being able to visit once in a while, or having your own dog as long as you can take care of it, it's excellent. It's quality for the buck. They have personnel that will do certain things. They will help them as far as bathing, but they're not technically an assisted living facility. There are special services provided through contractors at the facility. It's independent living, but with extras.

I toured Village at Bay Ridge Senior Community. It's a much older place. It's on the west side of town where I like to be, but they didn't have anything available. It's a very nice place. The people were great. They were awesome. The one I spoke with was very, very nice. They have all this stuff for people to do. They have buses that they take people to the grocery store or whatever if they don't drive. There's a gym, a library, and rooms to use if your family comes in for something.

I have my name on The Village at Bay Ridge's waiting list. When I walked in, it felt like home. The lady who showed me around was very knowledgeable. She made me feel so comfortable. When I called back and talked to her a couple of different times, she acted as if she had known me for a long time. I liked the size of the apartment and the openness of it. It was not huge, but there was plenty of room for the furniture that I plan to take with me. The bedroom is big enough for my sewing table and my sewing machine. I also like their walk-in closets, and their bathrooms are a nice size. You can choose between a tub or a walk-in shower. They have a movie theater, an exercise room, a nice library, and a nice dining facility. They offer transportation to grocery stores twice a week, and they offer trips to the doctor too.
