We love the American House Southland itself. We have a lot of really nice staff people and residents here. Overall, there's always something for you to do like activities and stuff. So, you're not just sitting in your apartment all the time. We have a two-bedroom place here and it's a beautiful facility. They have a great staff. They're caring and kind. They are wonderful people. I know the housekeeping and the different staff here and they're hard-working people.

I like American House Southland. They were having their July 4th celebration. They had a band, and they were dancing. The lady who was in charge came out and asked us if we wanted lemonade or cupcakes, and I said, okay, so she gave us lemonade to drink and cupcakes for me and my sister. The staff showed us their model two-bedroom, and it's nice. The room was okay. It's clean and it's safe. You cannot just get in, but you have to push certain buttons to get in. The staff showed us their facility and explained to us their activities. They're friendly and nice.

The American House Southland is the one my sister almost went to. It was very, very nice. Everybody was super nice and very cordial. They were all together playing games. It was very updated. The unit was an apartment setup. It came with a kitchen. Everything was included. It was a very nice experience. I would recommend it. The staff members were wonderful. They were all very informative and very nice. The only thing I would say is that the dining area was a little small.

My mom is more interested in American House Southland than I am only because she has visited a friend there before, so she knows what the rooms look like and that sort of thing. It is nice and so that would be top of my list. But at this point, my mom needs more help than just independent living. The place is very nice and very clean. There were lots of people there. It was a very busy place, which is good if you're active and you want to do that sort of thing. My mom is in a wheelchair, and she could use a walker, but because she has just recently been hospitalized, she's home now with some care. So I'm kind of gauging it like that. For independent living, it's perfect. They have transportation. The people that work there seem super nice. I think that my mom would probably get better care at the other place though. We can have services at American House, but it's separate and it's like a la carte. It isn't bad. That way you can pick and choose what she needs. And their rooms are a lot cheaper and much more affordable. The community is huge; it's high-rise. The staff who toured us was very with it when we came in. She had all this information ready for us and she handed us packets. She even gave us a little gift bag. They have a cafeteria-style dining. The place is very clean. When you walk in on the main floor, it's a nice open layout. The apartments are just darling. My mom would love the apartment because it is a real apartment. It has a kitchen and a living room that is separated by a counterspace. It has a bedroom that is separated by those areas, and it has a good-sized bathroom.

My mother-in-law is at American House Southland. We like it. It's fine. She has been there for 13 months now. The staff are wonderful. They're very nice. They have been very helpful. My mother-in-law has a standard one-bedroom apartment with a kitchen and a handicapped-accessible bathroom. The meals are included. They have assisted living available onsite if you need it. They have daily activities. They have a movie theater, a church, and a library. There's always something going on.

My cousin is a resident of American House Southland. She's been in rehab more than she's been there, but she's supposed to go back there tomorrow. The people are caring. They have some activities that are run by the facility, but they also have a bunch that are run by the residents. My cousin enjoyed the dance with some good music, and that was by the facility. They have church services on Wednesday and Sunday. They do movies, they have a library, they have a pool table, and a place where they can do jigsaw puzzles, and a place to play cards and dominoes. They provide the place for it, and a lot of times it's the residents who get things going. She said the food is good. The facility is very clean, and they do a good job coming and cleaning the apartments. Her apartment is nice and functional. She's got a stove and a refrigerator, and she brought her own microwave. It's got a balcony, which is nice. We had a little electrical trouble in the apartment, but they fixed it. It just took a while.

American House Southland is a very nice, very pleasant, and very clean place. I highly recommend it. It's certain to be comfortable there. We chose that place because we found out that there were other residents that my parents knew, so that was nice. The staff has been very polite and very caring. They have live music on Friday afternoons, a nice pond that they can walk around with benches, a small library (I took my mother there to get a book today), a beauty shop, a game room, a little movie room, and just all kinds of things.

The staff was very nice, very friendly, and very helpful. The dining area was very clean and very spacious. There was a hair parlor, a theater room, and a gaming room.

American House Southland is where I'm at now. The layout is beautiful, and the grounds are beautiful. The room is OK; it's nice. They provide excellent service so far. They have a movie theater, an activity room, and a place where you play cards. They have a gym and a dining room area where you eat downstairs. It's a nice facility. The dining area is clean so far since I've been here. They have food and everything on time. The staff is wonderful. I get along with everybody. The food is also excellent. It is worth the price.

My mother is in American House Southland. It's an independent living facility. It's very nice. They have their own apartments, which are good-sized. They have a medical team there that gives the medications out and stuff like that, and provides meals. She's been very happy there. They have all kinds of activities. They have bingo, they play dominoes, they have a lot of exercise classes like chair exercising, they do outings, they go for lunches and shopping trips and stuff like that. She has a one-bedroom unit. It's got a kitchen with a stove and a refrigerator. There's a living room and a bathroom. The staff is very good. The medical part is a different story; I'm not as happy with them. She's a picky eater, so she does complain about the food, but I think it's just her. Everything I've seen looked really good and smelled really good. The facility is very nice and well kept up.

I toured the American House Southland, I think the facility was beautiful. The staff was very friendly and the residents living there all seemed quite happy and content with the facility. There are a lot of activities going on and they offered a lot. There's a movie room or a very nice theater room, the library was nice, the dining room was very nice and the apartment as well. They were good-sized apartments that were very nice. I think the staff members were very nice. They seem very caring and they seem like they had a good rapport with the residents that were living there also. The grounds were very well-kept and very attractive. I was very satisfied with the place.

My sister was at American House Southland for respite care. It was very clean and everyone was very friendly and very informative. The room she had was very nice. It was a two-bedroom unit and it was on the second floor, so she had to use the elevator, which was OK. She was in a wheelchair in the beginning and she had someone that would assist her in getting around from her room to the dining room. Then she began using her walker more. Everything was easily accessible and she had no problems there that I know of. They also had a hair salon, a doctor on-site, and aides that would help her with different things. Everything worked out great and everybody was very on top of things. So, we're very pleased. I had one meal there on Easter Sunday and it was very nice, too.

I'm living in American House Southland's independent living. I get my meals, but I can also pick them up and bring them back home. I like that. I also like that they come in once a week, vacuum, change my linens, and wash my towels. That's just some of the stuff that they do here. If I want, I could get my medication delivered and they can help me with that but I don't need it because I can do that myself. They have stuff that you could do with the group like movies and stuff like that. They also have an Easter thing that's happening this week which I don't know if I'll take part in. I haven't gone there but I believe they have a place where you can get your haircut or, I'm sure, washed or stuff like that. All their apartments have a patio. I got one too, it's a nice patio and I have 2 chairs out there. Now that it has warmed up a little bit, I can just go sit there if I like and enjoy the day. The staff are very nice people. I get along with them fine. I do like it here. It's just a little more expensive and I need something a little cheaper. I got a 2-bedroom apartment and I'm only paying $1600 a month but still, that's all too much with what I get from Social Security and disability. I'm looking for something in the range of about $1000 a month. The food could be a little better but I like the service and the people are nice and everything. I've enjoyed the few activities that I have done like dancing. They have a person come in and sing songs and I've gone down and listened to that too. It's like a little concert. Maybe they should make it cheaper to keep residents a little longer. A couple of people have moved out because of the cost.

We went to see American House Southland. The people were friendly. The building was clean, and they had a lot of activities. They had a movie room and a game room. The apartments were very, very nice. If I had to go into assisted living, I would go there. The furniture in the rooms is nice. They rooms are clean, and everything is up-to-date. It's a very nice place. The staff who assisted me took us through the whole building. I liked what I saw.

My mother has moved into American House Southland. It's been great. They have everything that she was looking for. She has a good-sized living room, a small kitchen, a nice bathroom, and a bedroom. She's got a sliding glass door. The staff is great. Any problems we've had, they've got them taken care of. The food according to her is good. I'd give them a 10 with the way they've treated her so far. The staff members are nice. If they know that she hasn't come down for a meal, they're down to check on her. Value for money is excellent. They have a ton of activities. They've got people come in and sing once in a while, there's a library that's got over 500 books, they've got over 200 puzzles, a built-in little movie theater, popcorn, bingo, and once a week if you sign up, they'll take you shopping for a day. They have everything you could ask for.

My mother was in American House Southland in Taylor which was a very nice and clean facility. All the people there seemed very caring and very concerned with their patients' health. They had a lot of activities for the people there, so that was good. She was in assisted living. They have a walking area and there's a pond at the back so a lot of areas for the people to go out. They can get out of their rooms and go visit different areas of the facility. All the food that she had was very good. They were served in the room and it was just good food. She liked it so much and it was well-balanced.

Dad is moving into American House Southland tomorrow. I liked that they could have visitors. There are no restrictions on visiting. It's really, really clean, and they have all sorts of activities for the seniors. The price is pretty good too. They have bingo and happy hour for them on Fridays. They have movies, arts and crafts, and they have an in-house barber shop. The staff was great. She helped me find a room for my dad. He's gonna be living in a shared apartment with someone. She was very helpful, showed me around the place, and kept in touch with me. She even held the room for me to make sure that my dad was gonna get that shared room. The dining room looked very inviting.

American House Southland wasn't a bad-looking facility, but I wasn't as impressed with the lady that took me around the tour. She was more reserved, not as outgoing and talkative as the other one we toured. It's just my own personal feeling between the two ladies that took me around. They have a patio and they have a pond but all the trees were blocking the view.

We toured American House Southland. It was taken care of and was well groomed. The people were nice, and the clients were nice too because I got to talk to the clients as we were walking through. It was very nice and very kept up. They were working with the epidemic, and they were finally opening up some places. You didn't see a whole lot of people walking around and interacting with people because it was still during the pandemic. They were just opening the building back up where the people could go down to the dining room and stuff like that. They didn't have anything out and they weren't giving anything to anybody, but they offered this bottled water, which was okay because it was hot that day. I was impressed because they have a wall full of puzzles that the people were taking back to their rooms and doing them. They have a movie theater room. It's on the television, and every Friday or Tuesday (I think) they have a movie night and serve them popcorn and stuff like that. They can watch whatever movie they decide and if they don't want to engage with everybody, they're allowed to take a movie back to their room and watch that. They have church, a game room, and they have a little bit of everything for them all. You're talking to an old, retired nursing assistant from a nursing home. So when I give them this quality, it's coming from the heart because I worked with those type of people. I was very impressed of what they had there for the people. I would have had no problem putting my parents there.

My brother is at American House Southland. We liked the affordability, and there were a number of things that made us feel very comfortable with it. His room is very adequate, clean, and very suitable for his purposes. He's been doing fine. The activities are limited, and right now, they don't go into the dining area because of COVID.

American House Southland wasn't that big, but the people were older than me, and I'm very active. The food wasn't so nice. A lot of the people were in wheelchairs just sitting around in the lobby and not doing anything. It was small, clean, and old fashioned, but they were fixing up a few rooms. The staff was nice showing us around and offered us something to eat. They had decent parking and nice landscaping with trees and flowers. The rooms they showed me looked pretty nice, and they were getting it fixed up with new paint and up-to-date stove and refrigerator. The dining room looked like a cafeteria and it's small. It wasn't exciting to come in to and eat. The facility was average.

I loved American House Southland. It was lovely. What stood out was how the workers were treating the people who were there. They were having activities when we went, and I was very impressed. They interacted with the seniors and were very personable. They knew their names and that meant a lot. They were very professional but also kind and loving, so I loved it. The place was very clean, neat, and organized. The family members can be reassured that their family members will be taken care of right.

We toured Southland. The inside and outside was very clean, well-kept, and beautiful. It made me want to go and live there. The apartments were accessible, especially for my father who needed a wheelchair, and the bathroom was very large. We were looking at a 1-bedroom and 2-bedrooms, and there was a lot of space, and we thought he and my mother would be very comfortable there. The staff was absolutely wonderful, took us on a tour, answered our questions, and never put pressure on us at all. There's nothing bad I can say about that place.

American House Southland is close to my friends, and I have friends who live here. It is also close to my church. I am learning how to do ceramics -- which I have never done -- and I do jewelry. We have our own bus and driver, and we just go wherever they decide. I am very happy here. I am in a wheelchair, and they help me with everything. The staff people are very approachable. Any time I need to talk to one of them, I can, and I enjoy talking to them. We have a movie theater. I belong to Red Hats, and they afford me the use of the activity room at night, if I want to, or the movie theater for free, which is wonderful. They have ceramics and jewelry making, we have a wonderful preacher here who has 2 services a week, and we have a church that comes in for the Catholics and another one that comes in for the Baptists, which I am. So we have 3 opportunities for Baptists to go to church and 1 opportunity for Catholics every week. Every Friday and every holiday, we have a party.

This is place is OK but beware, if the power goes out your loved ones are on their own. The place has no backup generators, as I speak the power is out and the temperature tonight is going down into the teens. The poor people in there could freeze, but American House is doing nothing for them. For a place that houses helpless seniors this is unconscionable.

I think American House is a beautiful community. It had lots of activities, meal plans, and a very attentive staff. It had large rooms with large bathrooms, and it was very handicapped friendly. It has a medical team/nursing staff on site. It has a dining facility in the lobby with a big TV screen.

We chose American House Southland for my parents because of the location for the most part. They have 10 children, and it's kind of centrally located. They get three meals a day, and the patio was nice. They have some activities but my parents aren't really into all that. They play shuffle board, they have music day, ceramics, movies, and outings every once in a while. Everybody is very friendly, and I think they are happy there, so I like it.

My mother-in-law is at American House Southgate. We chose this place because she can put her wheelchair into the bedroom and bathroom. The other reason was because of the price; it was 2000 per month, and she was given a 6-month discount for people who are moving in. The food was good too.

American House is fully staffed, and it is a nice size room. My dad is very comfortable there. The staff is friendly, and they seem to be pretty caring. He is happy with the selection of food daily. He has a one-bedroom apartment -- living room, dining area, and a bathroom. There is accommodating closet space and storage space. There is a balcony and a kitchen with a stove and a refrigerator. They do have exercise programs and different activities. I don't know if my dad participates in a lot of their activities, but they have a walking group exercise program, they coordinate different events with the community where they take the residents out just to see that, and they have a baseball night where they go out to the baseball games. It has been fine so far.

My mother has been a resident at this facility for about 4 years. I looked at at least a dozen other places in the metro Wayne area before choosing this one. One thing I have learned over the last 5 years since my mothers stroke is that there is good and bad in every situation. Trying to care for aging, sick relatives is very stressful and it is never easy to leave their care in the hands of others. At this location, I am happy to say it is almost always good. The staff overall have been very friendly and helpful. The food is good. The apartments are well kept and they respond quickly if any problem develops with the unit. The American House Management team is also very pro safety which is so comforting when you can't be there yourself.

I did try to visit American House in Taylor. I just wasn't happy with that, but I couldn't put a finger on it. It was just a feeling. I didn't feel as comfortable in it as I did in the other facility. Everybody was nice to me, and everybody was accommodating. I just didn't feel comfortable for some reason there. I didn't think that my mother was going to feel comfortable either. It was just a gut feeling or a kind of intuition thing. The staff was very helpful, and they were very kind. They answered any questions that I had. They did have some vacancies, and they showed me the rooms. The rooms were tiny, but I can't expect it to be huge and spacious because they don't have the room and the price will go up. Regardless of what the room was or the staff, I just didn't feel comfortable. I saw the dining room, but I didn't eat there. They did have a bus, and a bunch of them were getting ready to go to the grocery store. They could use that bus for doctors' appointments too, but they have to reserve it a couple of days ahead.

Moving to a new place can be difficult for anyone, so it's understandable your mother may not like a new home, wherever it is. Hopefully you both can come back - I'd love to show her (and you) all the activities we have, such as seasonal trips and our very own American House Choir! Plus, we have a talented chef designing menus and preparing delicious meals for residents. Call me or stop by and I'd love to go over everything with you!

American House was within our price range. It was brand new, just opened up. Mother got a brand new apartment that was freshly painted with new carpet. She is pleased with the apartment because it's laid out very similar to what she had before. I think she's as happy as she can be in the condition she's in. There are not a whole lot of people there. I didn't think she'd get lost in the shuffle. There are like 80 people in it so it's relatively small. The building is a refurbished building and they need to fix the heat because the heat is stuck on high all the time. They've already changed out all the tubs and made them shower stalls. They don't have the kitchen totally set up yet. They bring the food in from another American House. The other American House is only a mile down the road. Once they get those things done, I don't think that there'll be anything to complain about. I do know that they have card parties and they have different types of trips to places and they have movie nights but my mother doesn't participate. The staff is all very young but they're very nice. I like the caregivers because they have just adopted my mom as if she was their own. One girl takes her to help her do chair exercises and she uses her as a sample for the other people to follow. It's the only way she can get my mom out of her apartment. They really go out of their way trying to get her out and about.

Thanks for leaving your feedback! We’re working on making sure everything is in top shape, so I appreciate your patience. Our residents prefer it a little warmer in the winter months, but all of our apartments have individual controls. If I had to move my mom, my first choice would be American House. The staff seemed more outgoing and the facility was much brighter with much more natural light. It was more pleasing. We were familiar with the facility and the services because my aunt was a resident there years ago before she passed away. The accommodation was fine. She had two-bedroom apartment, which was very nice with a small kitchen and a balcony where she could have plants and things. I knew they had bingo and other activities. They could improve if they could be more affordable because they were just out of reach for a large number of retired people.

I'm pleased to hear that American House would be your first choice! I'm sorry for the loss of your aunt, but I'm glad she enjoyed her time while she was with us. Please keep in mind that our services and amenities are offered on an a la carte basis, which is more affordable because our residents only pay for what they need. If you have any questions, please call me personally and I'd be happy to help you.

I did visit American House. I didn't like the neighborhood that it was in. The staff there was very accommodating and their rooms were about the same as with the other facility I looked at. They could improve though on the cleanliness of their facility, like their dining area and their lobby. With regards to food, in the scale of 1 to 5, I would give it a 3.

Thanks for leaving your feedback! While this area is home for many, we do have quite a few other locations a short distance away where you may like the neighborhood better. If you call me directly, I'd be happy to talk with you about your other options.

American House was too far away for my son so I didn't want to live there. The people were having fun though and they were doing Wii bowling. The staff seemed to be nice enough and interacted with the people. I liked best that interaction between the staff and the residents.
Provider Response
Our staff loves being able to spend time with our residents (and the Wii is a big hit around here!). We have a few other communities that may be closer to your son if you are still looking for a place to live. I'd love to tell you about them!

I'm really enjoying it here at American House. They provide all my meals and housekeeping services. There's a lot of activities and the people are all friendly. The residents have been extremely nice, considerate and helpful. They have bingo and provide trips to go to the stores or banks. They have movies in their own little cinema room, church services and bible study, as well as exercises. Everything is optional and nobody is forced to do anything they don't want to do. I have a 1-bedroom apartment with a dining and living room area as well as a full kitchen, although I don't need to use the kitchen. They have more residents than they can accommodate in their dining room, so they have two sittings. My dinner is at 4 o'clock. The timing isn't ideal, but the food is good.

I was rather impressed with the facility. Given the things one sees on the news and reads online about conditions in assisted-living facilities, I was a bit anxious the first time I visited said relative (whom I will call M) at the American House. She seemed to enjoy living there when I spoke with her on the phone prior to visiting, but what one says and reality are not always the same thing. As I said, I was impressed. The grounds were well-maintained and looked very nice. The staff members I came in contact with were all very polite and helpful, and they seemed generally very fond of M, and she them. M had a tendency to distrust people by default, so there were a few she "wasn't sure of," but I imagine that would be the case anywhere she lived. She seemed to get along with the other residents well, also. There was one resident who seemed to dislike her, as she told me, but, again, such things happen anywhere.I did notice a bit of litter near one of the doorways, but I brought it to the attention of a staff member, and she seemed attentive enough, going off to find someone to attend to the problem.Overall, it seemed a good place for M to live. I would have rather her live with family -- everyone would I imagine -- but barring that possibility, it seemed a good, clean, healthy place for her.

Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad that you have been impressed with our community at American House Southland, and that we've been able to make the transition go smoothly for "M," yourself, and your family. Although I can understand that you'd rather have "M" stay with your family, I hope that you can consider our community as part of her extended family now! My door is always open. Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback!

I had been familiar with another American House not far from this location. I expected the same environment, hospitality and care. I will say that this particular American House was a step up from the other location. As a whole, it was cleaner, smelled better and the staff was polite. My girlfriend and I made about four visits to this place in a little over a year. I found it pleasant enough and the outside of the building was always immaculate- lawn and all. I had conversations with a few residents who thought that the food wasn't bad at all, and from what I could discern, most of the residents seemed to be well taken care of. I'm not sure how much the cost was to live at this particular home, so I can't compare the facility with any price context, but overall, it looked like an affordable place that provided solid care for its residents.
