My sister is happier and much more comfortable here, and the food is better. They also provide a lot more assistance compared to her previous senior community. She's in independent living, but I have care set up for her. They have a 24-hour nursing staff that manages her pills, helps her get dressed in the morning and ready for bed at night, escorts her down to the meal, and so on. They do a really good job keeping an eye out for her. She has a fantastic two-bedroom apartment with a ton of room, a special place for all her special things, like paintings and antiques, and her own patio and little shade tree. Southgate is a wonderful community, and her doctors are local. Shopping and grocery stores are also conveniently located. The staff is excellent and take care of my sister like she's part of family. They're friendly, smiling, patient, and say hello. They have games, arts and crafts, chair exercises, trips to movies, and restaurants. The activity director watches over my sister like a big brother. This place is for people in the early stages of dementia. If you're further along, it's not a locked-in facility and may not be what you're looking for if you need someone at your side constantly.

The people here are excellent. They help you, and they go beyond helping. The rooms are wonderful. They have a movie room, and they have all kinds of activities there for the residents. You pretty much have your freedom to do whatever you want to do.

I visited and they were fabulous. My only problem with them is that they don't have memory care yet. The staff, Kate and Kristen, were both very good. The place was very nice, and that is actually where we were planning on putting my mom and her partner, but they have everything but memory care. The facility was beautiful; it was outstanding everywhere. The location would have been convenient for all of my family members. It would be easy to get to, and the parking was large enough if we visit.

My mother-in-law is here. The place is very nice, and the food is good. I don’t have any complaints about them at all. I can see that a lot of the seniors in the place are pretty independent, but she needs more help. They do little housekeeping and some laundry. They make sure everybody is OK.

We visited. The staff was excellent, the apartment looked very nice, and it’s homey. Everybody was really nice, and kind. The have a game room, a recreation room, a singing room, and lounge.

It was practically the same as with the other facility. I would say the place was safe. All the doors were locked, and you have to ring a doorbell to get in. The dining room wasn't as crowded as the other facility.

It is clean. It seemed right. He's getting help with his medication, so I guess that would be assisted living. He likes it; he likes the food. He's only been there about a month. They've been real helpful and with good attitudes.

It was great. The convenience of where it is would be the main thing for us. It is quite close to our family, and it is convenient to everything. The mall is about a mile away, and there are a lot of stores around. However, it was a little expensive for us because they serve all your meals and everything, too. Nevertheless, the atmosphere was really good. They have a patio, which is nice. The staff was very polite and very informative. They were very nice to us and showed us the apartments. It was really good. The apartments were a good size, and they had quite a bit of storage, so we liked that. They have activities. They play cards and different games.

The people are very friendly and very welcoming at American House Southgate. And you feel like people understand you and what you're going through. You can furnish your apartment the way you want it, and they provide three meals a day. You also have your own home if you want to cook things on your own. They have housekeeping, too. You can go out and drive, and you can keep your car. You're having help, and in the meantime, you can still feel that you can have your independence. They play cards, they watch movies, and it depends on if the person would like to get out of the apartment or if she wants to stay in her apartment. You have your own choice. They're down-to-earth people. You feel like you've known them for a long time. They make you feel like you're not a stranger and intruder to come in. I spoke to the director there.

My Mother has been a resident for 1 week. At this point in time I am very pleased. Her care giver has worked wonders. Mom was cranky, unhappy, and ready to say good bye and on Monday she was happy (actually smiling), content and looking forward to Thanksgiving. It is still early in this relationship and I don't know how everything will progress but at this moment I am happy to see Mom smiling again.
